Looks like we'll see renaiscance of ex-Eastern Europe nations: Poland, Bulgaria, Russia and Romania are very close to the 1st spot in their groups, for Croatia and the Czechs it's still wide open, and Ukraine, Belarus, Slovenia, Yugoslavia and Slovakia can all still end on the 2nd spot. On EURO 2000, there were 4 teams from ex-eastern Europe. Now there may well be 6 or 7 of them in Japan.

That's very unlogic for me. There are less great stars in those teams than ever, but the results are much better.

Otherwise, my predictions after 6 rounds of qualifying is:
1 - Russia :(
2 - Ireland :):)
3 - Bulgaria
4 - Turkey
5 - Poland
6 - Scotland
7 - Spain
8 - Italy
9 - Germany
Groups 5,8 and 9 are actually almost decided regarding the 1st spot.

In Asia, Iran and China will win in their groups, Saudi Arabia and the UAE will decide who will play against one European team.

In the Central America, it will be USA :( , Mexico :) and ... Honduras.

In the South America, Argentina :) , Paraguay, Brazil and Ecuador :) will go through directly. Uruguay will play against Australia, and loose. So Australia will be the first Oceanian finalist since 1982.

In Africa, Liberia will beat Nigeria. The other four will be Cameroon, South Africa, Egypt and Tunis.

Regarding European runner-ups, it's difficult to make predictions. I hope Slovenia will be among them, facing Saudi Arabia again in the play-offs! :)

portugal better watch themselves orelse they're gonna miss the world cup again. and if it comes down to a battle between holland and portugal - i'll put my money on holland any day. this of course if ireland continue with their impressive form.

Ireland will Qualify, the only match they have left that they really have to worry about is against Holland. And even that is going to be playing in Ireland. I am not sure if they can hold on and win the group, but I do think that they will qualify. But i disagree with you Severus, i believe Portugal will qualify over Holland. Portugal are in the drivers seat and the Dutch camp s in disaray after the suspensions of Davids and De Boer.
