What are your opinions on Klinsmann's performance as the coach of the NT so far.
Here are my views
+ve's to his coaching style.
1. He is ready to go against the conventional and takes steps which require a lot of courgae. He left out Hamann and Wörns. He stopped playing the libero role, and started reliance on a zonal defense. These changes to the defensive structure initially caused many hardships and poor results, but now Mertesacker and Metzelder are finally peaking together as a decent defensive pair.
2. He is not afraid to use Ballack as the holding midfielder. Earlier Ballack was used as an offensive medfielder whose main use was ading the attack. Now that goals are being scored without much active participation from Ballack, he is used to shore up the defense. It is a tactic that I think has worked quite good so far in the games we have had Ballack playing. Ballack rarely loses the ball, and his passing is perfect. He can play the holding role with perfection and this helps the relatively inexperienced defense a great deal.
3. Schneider has been wonderful in this tournament.Under Rudi Völler Schneider was often shifted between RB and RM every other game. Now that he has a fixed spot in the squad, he is playing much better.
4. The new attacking style ofcourse...... exciting to watch and will sure as hell get us more fans world wide.
5. Ability to switch formations effectively without making a substitution. When a defensive formation is needed, Borowski and Frings can play the DM role. This has worked for us in the past. The versatility of Borowski and Frings who are used to almost any kind of midfield position has been utilised to the maximum.
6.Ability to stand for his ideas inspite of great criticism from Beckenbauer or other in the DFB. The same people who didnot want to take up the coaching job in 2004 due to 'personal' reasons are the one who criticise him now.
7. Sacrificed a nice Californian lifestyle for a high pressure job. That speaks loads about his work ethic and commitment.
-ve's
1. His haste in chosing the no.1 goal keeper. He didnt have to make a choice till just about the time the tournament began. That way kahn would be totally motivated. Now he knows that there isnt much in the WC for him.
2. Ok, this is not football related, but he is trying to stay outside Germany for 180+ days (if the tablids are to believed), and as per German law, you don't have to pay German tax if are outside Germany for more than 180 days. Thats why he goes to California very often.

^Good observation man...
7+ vs 2- thats about sums it up, He's a much better coach than Ruudi Voller.
Germany finally looking really impressive in this Worldcup. The have displayed a much improved attacking skills & defence.
As for Lehmann being the 1st goalkeeper he haven't been really tested yet. Most of the time the other players have cover his ass even before the ball nearing the German goal. So we'll have to see whether Klinsmann decision on this one correct or not in the next round when Germany is going much tougher teams, especially if they made it to meet Argentina after the match against Sweden.

No, the question was never if Lehamnn is the better keeper or not. This season he has been in exceptional form for Arsenal. But the issue was the timing of the decision, about one month before the world cup, to chose Lehmann over Kahn. Why was that so necessary? Lehmann or Kahn, both are good keepers, and prefering one over the other means instant demoralisation of the keeper who is benched. They could have played rotation as was done in the confederations cup. Goalkeeping is the last of Klinsmann's problems. It looked like a publicity stunt by Klinsmann to show that he is not afraid to make 'bold' decisions. But it has paid off so far, and he has my support. :)

Yeah i think it coud be Klinsmann was just trying to so off his power. Everyone including Kahn himself was pretty much confidence by his position in the post & Klinsmann might just want to teach the entire nation who's the boss. Which is really good because as a coach you cannot be forever influenced by the media & pressure from everyone. So far so good for Klinsmann & hope the Germany will win this worldcup. I totally believe they can this time. Go Germany!!!!!
^Khan was good at the WC 2002 upto the final game.(Where he screwed up)
Lehman got the Arsenal to Champions League final, and if he hadn't gotten that stupid red card, he would have made sure Arsenal kept the lead and won.
I think that's the reason why Lehman is starting.

I do feel bad for Kahn though, when they show him on the sideline just sitting there. It must be a horrible feeling to go from 2002 best goalkeeper of the tournament to the bench in 2006.
As for klinsmann, I like how he has made this team a more attack minded team because they have great goal scorers, so by getting leads the pressure is lessened on the defense and I think this help them perform better. I think he likes the US a little too much though.

Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann pleaded not to be put under pressure to decide his future - as he played down claims he is a target for the United States.
Opinion polls show Germany are desperate to keep Klinsmann in charge, while it is claimed all 23 World Cup squad members are keen to keep him.
"It is not a question of my terms of reference or powers - it is family," said Klinsmann.
"I have had no contact or interest at all from the United States."
Klinsmann led the hosts to the semi-finals before they were knocked out by Italy.
The former Spurs striker, who now lives in Santa Barbara, which has been a source of criticism during his German reign, and he has been touted as a successor to United States coach Bruce Arena.
But he added: "Please spare me more questions about my future because that fact will come after the event, as I have said umpteen times."
Klinsmann is at the centre of a virtual national campaign to persuade him to stay, and he said: "I love receiving those compliments more than getting stick about not living in Germany.
"I have to discuss these matters with my family, but I am just happy to see a team in place that is positive and has every right to be positive.
"There is no denying that there will be a lot of work still to be done, but the team will go down the right road using that philosophy."
Klinsmann also defended Chelsea new boy and national captain Michael Ballack after criticism of his World Cup performances.
Ballack was ruled out of the opening game against Costa Rica with a calf injury, and the same problem means he missed the third-place play-off with Portugal.
Klinsmann said: "Michael Ballack has a very important role. He has literally filled out his role of captain at the World Cup.
"He has great strength and we speak of him with the greatest respect."
Klinsmann said: "He didn't play in the first game against Costa Rica and didn't train for a week and he was trying to find his rhythm.
"I think the Argentina game was the best possible example of the character of Michael Ballack.
"He was plagued by cramp and left the pitch, but he wouldn't be substituted and only left the field after the game was decided."
"The former Spurs striker, who now lives in Santa Barbara."
Yeah he chills with Calif

Here's to hopefully getting Klinsmann as the US Coach. He would bring the right gameplan, the ability to coach young players, and the ability to get the best out of his forwards to a US team that drastically needs all 3 of those aspects.

It is sad that he is no longer the coach and a shame. Hopefully his replacement can keep the team playing the way they did so they do well in the Euro 08. As for coaching the US, if he does this it will be horrible. It will be a betrayal to the team, all of whom wanted him to stay as their coach.
