Iran-Mexico-Portugual

Many of you believe that this is a two horse race between Mex-Port, but do you think Iran can make the second round with a draw with mexico?
Also think about the Mex-port match against eachother and how that can damage oneanothers chances. Give your opinions.

i think that if there is a tie, mexico has more chances because i see them getting a better result against portugal than iran will do against portugal

hmm, this be assuming that Iran and Portugal tie also?

going into the last game I think the standings would be as follows

Mexico - 4
Portugal - 4
Iran - 2
Angola - 0

under this scenario, if Iran wins, they would automatically advance if Mex-Portugal dont draw. otherwise, it'd head to goal differentials if they're all at 5pts. It would come down to who can beat Angola the best. I think Portugal and Mexico would probably win this battle.

With their traditional 5-man defense, Mexico can probably defend an even score with Portugal. Winning might be difficult, if Portugal already has at least 4 points by then (in which case Portugal won't expose itself too much). So, if Mexico ends up needing more than one point on the last match, their chances aren't very good. If Portugal chokes against either Iran or Angola, Mexico'll have to be very focused to keep their net empty.

Iran plays Portugal on the second match, however, not the third, and, depending on the result of the first game, they might have to force their play to win it. Iran's defense isn't solid enough to hold back Portugal, so their best chance is to outscore them. It's 3 points or nothing here.

I see Iran beating both Mexico and Portugal, I see Mexico owning Portugal. Something about Portugal football seems to be wrong, they never do anything and they always lose to unknown teams, this is not a flame just stating facts I read on the fifa world cup site, in the history section, and from watching them in previous world cups. :smoking:

By unknown teams, you mean the USA? I agree with you, it's even worse than losing to Greece. The shame! If the players were Japs I'd have them commit sepukku after WC 2002.

mexico killed(or at least beat iran very convincingly) iran so mexico and and portugal wil battle it out for first and second place.

I think mexico is the best team in group D i still think they are the best of CONCACAF and that they will be beating in 4ths VS Germany they will beat either Arg or Neth. in 8ths and ofcourse SPAIN will win the final =) !!!
