i'm sure germany will win w/ a close match 3-2...now if they have both Kahn and Ballack on the pitch, it can be 4-2...

will triumph. Ecuadors team is so well composed and i can
see Germany becoming overly physically and screwing

I think the game will be easier for the Germans than most of you think...Equador play not with 10 defensiv players around their own goal...they trie to shot goals and play more offensive than Costa Rica...

3-1 or 3-0 for Germany

Germany is the obvious candidate, but... God, what an awful defense they had against Costa Rica. Ecuador could have a field day with that, and they showed enough talent to keep the Poles at bay.

germany 4 - ecuador 0

Yeah right, look at the results ecuador got vs poland and costa rica and compare those results to germany's. Now if Costa rica put two in against germany then ecuador can definitely put a few in.

Germany will win am sure, since Klinsmann will play his top team and trying to continue the momentum +buildup to the knockout stages.

Ecuador has been playing some good soccer, but I do believe Germany on its homefield in Berlin will get the win 2:0.

Costa Rica scored 2 goals because Germany played horrible on the backline. Germany kept getting burned, which led to those 2 goals. Germany fixed this problem against Poland and look what happened, Poland didn't score. Ecuador will probably score only 1 goal, if not, then nothing. Germany will score 2 or 3 goals.

Well, I believe Germany will win but it should be close and Ecuador have shown that they are quite good and could possibly beat England in the 2nd round. Just because 2 goals got in by CR doesnt mean that germany cant beat Ecuador. Also, the Poland game could have easily been 3 - 0 if Podolski had a better touch right in fron of goal and the 2 shots hitting the bar.

Side note: What does everyone think of Lahm? I think this guy is great (living in states dont get to see bundesliga matches). He has a goal and I think two assists so far and just seems to be a playmaker. Definitely look forward to seeing him progress even more later on.

I agree (not that it means anything), but Lahm was I believe the best player in the Poland game. Calm and cool with the ball and didn't over-play it like Schweinsteiger did too many times. Lahm created many chances for Germany and Odonkor also played well when he came on. Looking good for Germany.
They tightened up their defence for the Poland game and will do the same for Ecuador.

germany has alot riding on this game. a tie is NOT an option for them.

my Ecuador has a +5 while germany only has a +3, therefore, a tie is useless to them. they need the 3 points to take 1st and avoid england.

unless England somehow starts to play like they all do on club level, i think ecuador can deffinetely knock them out. lets face it, paraguay is no where near Ecuadors level and they only won because of an own goal.

im not going to predict anything. i have no clue what out coach will do since he has allready said that he is going to rest all the players that have yellows and have been hit hard and have small bruises.

we might get thrashed, or we might play extremely well and win, its up in the air. im sure germany will rest some players too.

alot of people have asked that allready.

but the real question is this:

how similar will both of the teams that meet each other next tuesday be to the ones that weve seen in there previous 2 games?

i mean, both teams are allready thinking 2nd round, why risk injuries and cards.

if they do they had better check out some recent form

Macedonia 2 Ecuador 1
Japan 1 Ecuador 0
Ecuador 1 Uganda 2

Also, South American sides outside Brazil & Argentina dont do well against european teams in general, and better european ones in particular.

yea, thats why poland walked over us and beat us 5-0

thats why costa rica who gave germany such a hard battle, got crushed 3-0 by us.

It all depends how badly Germany wants to win this, they are guarenteed to be in the next round and they could easily just play it safe and go for the draw. Ecuador would want to win this simply for pride and also to bring momentum in the second round. I wonder how much Germany will play Ballack in this game since you don't want him to reagrravate his injury in a meaningless game and miss the rest of the Cup, yet you want his leadership on the field...tough call

Dude i start to think that you really hates us...Sorry about that

I saw no brutal foul from a german player... all I saw was that the Ref called a few fouls that werent fouls (against germany and Polen) but no complaining.
We controlled Poland the whole time. we played fast (sometimes to fast for our own Players) our defence was quit good (what a surprise)
And the red card was a red card... that was a tactical foul which is always punished with a yellow card and 2 yellow cards a one to much.
Odonkor got a yellow card for the same situation... so what.
With more luck Germany won 4 : 0.
Strange that the polnish people I spoke to at the puplic viewing spots in Munich thought the same...

I don't care, i saw a dramatic game with a happyend and with a nice party after that.
Thats all I need.

I believe Ballack will play the first half and be replaced early in the second.
In the first half Germany will play their attacking game, they will focus on defense in the second. Germany wants to win this game. They cannot afford to loose in front of the home crowd and the punishment they will receive from the German media will be incredible if they loose this game.
They are out to show everyone (inlcuding Dutchfan!) that they are real and can go all the way.
After saying all that, Ecuador may be the toughest game yet for Germany.
It is not about finishing first to play Sweden, because Sweden may beat England to end up on top. This game is about pride and proving a point, for both teams.

Germany look pretty average, and against a team like Argentina they don't stand a chance. Ecuador have made it to the second round and seem to be taking it easy so as not to risk injury.

That said, I think the ref is a joke.

Germany looks average? Germany played amazing today. They got off to a slow start, but as the game progressed, they started to dominate.

The ref is a joke? I know there have been some horrible calls this World Cup, but just because that's the case doesn't make ever ref a joke. I actually thought this game was one of the better games as far as the refs go. It seems like everyone wants to use the refs as an excuse for one reason or another.

the ref was absolute trash. no question about it........

and the 2nd goal, allthough a nice one by miro, wouldn NOT have happened had the ref blown the whistle on an OBVIOUS foul moments before, but whatever now..........

i wouldve prefered a more aggresive approach to this match by our coach LFS, but, in the end, the game didnt really matter and hes the coach so it was his call to rest several players and prepare everything for our match with england.

Only if, AS USUAL, they get help from the referees!! #$$%%#$ers!! I understand that they were just BRUTALIZING the Poles in their last match, but which team had a player :red-card:ed eventually? The Poles, of #$%#$% course!! @#%#$% cheating, fouling, hacking jerks, Die Mannschaft!! I don't care WHICH team plays the hosts' team after Round One - all I ask is that they eliminate them from the tournament, I don't care WHAT it takes!!

I see you are engaged in your favourite passtime, Germany bashing, once again. Not that it came as a suprise. We had no help from the referees in the Poland game. We did dominate for the larger part of the game, and were unlucky that Klose and Podolski failed to score off easy chances. We haven't lost to Poles any of our competitive meetings and haven't lost in Dortmund for the last 11 games, so the stats were also going for us.

The red card was harsh? This commin from a person who feels the Hanke red crad in the confeds match against the Mexicans was fair. Double standards? :)

There have been calls much more doubtful than this one. Suprisngly I havent seen any Poles complain about the red. Are you sure you saw the game?
The performance against Ecuador was also fairly good. I thought Ballack shouldn't have been risked, but he has come away unscathed. Good to Podolski score.

I just wanted to reiterate the point to all South American fans/supporters here that the gap in standards in South American football, after Brasil and Argentina is very large. The performances by Paraguay and Ecuador have not been very promising.

First off, Doowee guy, Podolski and Klose may have been born in Poland, but they grew up in Germany (Klose moved to Germnay at the age of 9) so I dont think Poland had much to do with their footballing talents being developed. Also, they scored goals off of assists...hmm were those great passes from polish players too? No. I would have no problem with a german born person growing up in Poland and deciding to play for Poland.

So dutchfan chimes in again. It seems that whenever Germany wins there is an excuse. I have never seen a team get criticized so much for winning. I have not seen any really bad fouls committed by this team, and no more fouls than the average of any other team.

So the competition is weak. Well, we play the games that we are given and we win. We did not pick our group, it was picked for us. Many people praise Ecuador for beating CR and Poland 3-0 and 2-0 respectively, yet Germany beats CR 4-2 (same margin) and Poland 1-0 (easily could have been 3-0 as I stated on page 3) and now beats Ecuador 3 -0. Oh but wait they chose to sit out players and that is Germanys fault. Thier midfield and defense were pretty much the same as in their match against CR so we still beat their "A" midfield and defense.

What happens if we beat Sweden? Will you say that they were a weak side too? And after that if we win the QFs are they weak. Keep making excuses for your clear biases against the hosts.

well uhmm isnt the whole idea of a World Cup to put the countrymen of different countries all together and play some football and find a winner ? Why does Germany insist on using 2 Polish players? Surely the Poland national team does not like the fact that the only 2 players on the German national team scoring goals are actually Polish. Just imagine what Polands potential success could be if they were playing for the team they are supposed to be playing for. Players and team managers alike MUST be from the country they are representing. This is something FIFA must change. Its retarded any other way and dillutes the integrity of what the World Cup is about

I bit difference though since his parents are from Balkan not he. I mean where to pull the line? One generation, two? Australians and americans, should they be considered British or whatever?
I dont think its wrong with Klose and Podolski though, just not exactly the same. If they feel German, speak german and have lived in Germany since young, why are they not German?

Dutchfan, now ur sounding like the joker who ceases to be funny.... in other words ur sounding like a total waste of life, and on interent forums a total waste of bandwidth.

Provide me with even ONE instance of cheating by the German team in the 3 games played so far. Provide me with even ONE instance of biased refereeing. Atleast back up ur allegations with something substantial.

I am not very suprised when you failed to see De Rossi's elbow in the face of McBride, against the team that is your home country.Thats just what you are.. a two faced being, with different sets of standards for different people. You also failed to notice blatant diving by Robben and Torres. But that in your view should be forgiven just becuase they are not Germans. You are acting as though you have something personal in this. Your calling a team as 'bastard team' and his supporters as 'lickers' is bad enough to get you warned severly. Somehow that hasn't happened so far, but if you continue to tread the same path do not expect anything less.

Maybe not, but YOUR sorry team sure as hell won't!! Argentina put 6 up on Srbija? They'd put 10 up on Deutschland with its sorry excuse of a defense!
