Galatasaray striker Umit Karan, whose remarkable season was cut short by injury earlier this year, will be fit to play by the start of the 2006-2007 season and will likely spend a final year with the Yellow-Reds before his contract expires.
In an interview this week, Umit revealed that the injury sabotaged an imminent transfer deal with an unspecified English Premier League club. "I was on the verge of closing the deal but unfortunately injury got in the way," said Umit.
Umit, who scored 17 goals for Galatasaray last season, has one more year left on his contract and will likely return to Ali Sami Yen in August. But the striker still longs to play in the Premiership: "I am what the English call a 'classic striker.' I would be in my element over there."
