Give the scores for each game, and how far you think Iran can go.

Iran is a great team. But they wont make it out of the group.

Mexico 2 1 Iran
Portugal 3 1 Iran
Iran 3 2 Angola

it seems that the key match for both iran and mexico will be the game between each other...

however if portugal gets overconfident then who knows... it is not likely but mexico and iran can eliminate them

I'll draw three trees, based on the results of the first match, which will determine Iran's strategy regarding the other two.

a) Iran loses to Mexico . Iran 0 Mexico 1
. Iran 1 Portugal 3
. Iran 2 Angola 2
1 point, 3rd place with Angola (6/10)

b) Iran ties Mexico . Iran 0 Mexico 0
. Iran 0 Portugal 1
. Iran 5 Angola 1
4 points, and they'll be hoping Portugal wins the last game - 2nd/3rd place in the group

c) Iran wins against Mexico . Iran 2 Mexico 1
. Iran 3 Portugal 2
. Iran 2 Angola 2
7 points, 1st place in the group, Portugal and Mexico to fight for the second spot

I have to say that Iran might make things interesting but I just don't think it will be enough to progress. I have to stick with Portugal as sure winners, and although the Iran vs Mexico game will definitely cause a stir, Iran will fall short of second place. I think three defeats are in store for angola.

I think,
Iran 2 Mexico 1 Mexico 0 Portugal 1
Portugal 0 Iran 0 Mexico 2 Angola 0
Angola 1 Iran 0 Portugal 2 Angola 0

Iran and Portugal advance

Im not going to list the scores but i am going to talk about the match-ups
Iran-Angola Although African teams produce good players, the players are not mentally ready for the challenge of these international teams, plus many of the players have not played international teams..so Iran will most likely win that.
Iran-Portugual- Remember Euro Cup 2004? Hosted by the pourtuguese.
Well...Portugual had home advantage in that tournament made the finals and lost to Greece. Now when we look at Greece, they didnt even manage to qualify and stand at 40th ranking while portugual is at 7th proving that portugual is not unstoppable. If Iran is ready to go in with confidence they can most likely draw, or a possibility of a win..who knows?
Iran-Mexico - Now this is the hard part. Iran is 19th in rankings and Mexico 4th. The only way Iran can win or draw this match is to ignore to the statistics and go into the game with confidence...and show the watching world that they are more than just a second class team.

Im going to say Iran has a solid chance to beat Portugal. The result against Mexico is not an accurate description of their talent. If Portugal have an off day, Iran will punish them as Portugal is not that consistent.

how is the score against mexico not a reflection of their talent.its a world cup where you have to do everything perfect and iran had all of its players.you coul;d,argue they had a better 1st half but the second half mexico totally dominated and iran bunkered and made 2 childish mistakes.

ok yeah maybe iran had a bad day,i think they can be better but in a world cup you cant make mistakes and have bad days.iran was defending well but mexicos defense was even better because when iran tried to counter atack mexicos defenseshunned them off.i think mexico fairly won.

I agree, I think Portugal are going to have a hard time against Iran. Many people thought it is going to be easy for the Portuguese too after the win of Mexico, but I don't think so.

Iran's desperate to grab points from the next match, counting on a Mexican win against Portugal in the last match, in which case Iran might go through on goal difference. But Portugal's not blindfolded to the results in this group either.

More than ever, Portugal has something to prove, after the first game failed to impress a single person in the world. The loss against Greece in 2004 and the early exit in WC 2002 just aggravate the issue. Don't expect such an easy-going game like you saw against Angola. The team CAN be scary when on fire. Ask the russians.

And, as you saw today on Eng-T&T game, 7 minutes of inspiration can counterbalance 83 of sluggish play. Just because we didn't score much doesn't mean Angola had a chance to score either.

Why Portuguese fans consider Euro 2004 a bad year? It was your first time ever in the final.

Because we lost the chance to win the Euro. That was also our first chance. Because for us, if we don't win, we weren't trying hard enough. It's ingrained in our genes, an absolut denial of any sort of limit. That is why our Portuguese forefathers decided not to believe Greek maps that detailed African coast as infinite, and actually found a way around it, reaching India by sea 60 years before any other european nation even dared to believe it was possible.

So, yes, it was a bad year for us. Because we didn't win.

This is out of topic, but Greek maps did not detailed African coast as infinite.
