Galatasaray vice chairman Adnan Polat gave an interview to Turkish magazine Football Extra this month, in which he discussed the rivalry between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.
Polat criticized Fenerbahce for not sending a message of congratulations after Galatasaray's championship win last month, viewing this as an example of the Fenerbahce management's "intolerant" attitude.
Polat, who has verbally sparred with Fener officials in the past, joked that all Turks are born Fenerbahce fans but later become Galatasaray fans: "I knwo this is true because all newborns scream in agony as they make their entry into this world."
Joking aside, there was one sign of a thaw in relations between the two clubs this week. Polat's father-in-law died, and Fenerbahce posted a message of condolence on their official website and sent a representative to the funeral as a sign of respect and goodwill.
