Win or a draw against Werder Bremen secures HSV no.2 spot in the Bundes Liga 2005/2006 season. If HSV loses then Bremen gets the no.2 spot and the direct berth to the Championship League.

HSV 1-2 Bremen
This means Bremen qualifies directly to the Champions League and HSV will try their luck in the 3rd qualifying round of Champions League.

One main Off-season question for Hamburg is whether they resign Barbarez.

What a disappointing start to the season! It took until October to notch the first win - not exactly what the club was hoping for. Thomas Doll has gone from one of the most impressive young managers in the Bundesliga to very close to getting fired. I think it would be a mistake to get rid of Doll, as the poor form has a lot to do with a huge run of injuries. The side is also trying to integrate both a new central defense and new attack.

Definitely a mistake. But its more than that. If Barbarez was still at the AOL, he would probably be injured too. Injuries are what put HSV into this mess, but I'm not sure if Doll is good enough to get them out of it. Letting a quality defensive pairing go this summer was a mistake as well, though it might not have been as bad if Kompany was healthy.

I don't think adding new players is necessarily the answer right now. After adding a number of new players in the summer, its taking time for those new players to settle in and adapt. Plus, the injuries. They need to get healthy and get players like Guerrero and Sanogo settled and playing well. That, and maybe get rid of Doll.

No, but I was following online. Was so sure they would get the three points... then boom... another draw.

I feel sorry for him, too. But I don't think he's going to be the one to save them. Even if he stays and keeps them in the Bundesliga, I would be surprised if he stays beyond this season. Good manager but I don't think he can get them out of this situation. Its definitely not all his fault, but the manager takes the blame.

That would make sense. No use dumping the current manager when you can't get someone better in... that would hardly be helping the situation. I think the board also realizes that Doll has been hamstrung by the insane number of injuries suffered by the squad this season.

Felix Magath is now available after being fired by Bayern Munich. Wonder if he would be interested in HSV?

I think Doll is still HSV coach because of two reasons:
Number1: The Fans still like him
Number2: Selfprotection for Baiersdorfer. When Doll gets fired he is the next. Because it was his fault that the HSV sold theire last seasons topplayer (Boulahrouz, Buyten ect.)

I dont think that Magath will go to an other team this season, perhaps next year, but I think he needs a time out

Latest news now in media land is, Huub Stevens, trainer of Dutch team Roda JC at the moment, will take over at HSV and will sign a contract deal tonight.

He has already been trainer before in the Bundesliga, being coach of Schalke 04 and Hertha BSC, it seems he will pretty much be Doll's successor, but you never know for sure what's going to happen.

Not a bad move, he's a good trainer and HSV isn't trailing to far behind the other teams, so a couple of wins would ensure their stay in the Bundesliga.

wait i know what's problem with HSV!

Hamburg goals too small, newspaper reports

BERLIN, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Hamburg SV have scored fewer goals than any Bundesliga club this season and the Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper has discovered one possible cause -- the goals in their home stadium could be too small.

The newspaper reported that the goals in the Hamburg Arena stand 2.39 metres high, with the crossbar five centimetres lower than the prescribed 2.44 metres.

"Obviously we're going to measure that again," HSV spokesman Joern Wolf told Germany's SID sports news agency.

"If those numbers reported are correct, we will make sure we have a new goal in place that conforms with the rules by the next match against Borussia Dortmund. It's a good thing no one hit the crossbar last week in the Energie Cottbus match."

If confirmed, it would be another embarrassing setback for Hamburg, who started the season hoping to win the championship after finishing third last season. They are bottom of the standings and last week sacked coach Thomas Doll.

Bigpapa42
02-14-2007, 04:05 PM
Hamburg have definitely been poor this season, but in a weird way. They only have 7 losses at this point, which is actually less than 7th place Leverkusen. But they've only won 2 - they draw far far too often. Their defense is a serious step down from last season, when it was a real strength, but its not horrible either - they're pretty average in goals allowed.

The problems are that they are not scoring goals, they cannot protect a lead once they gain it, they have not taken any advantage from playing at the AOL this season, and they have had horrible luck. The reason that everyone has been and still does expect them to turn it around, and probably part of the reason that Doll stayed around for so long, is that it all seems like fixable problems. They have strikers capable of scoring. A home advantage is much down to confidence. And the back luck - injuries, bad bounces, etc - has to end sooner or later... right? For a side sitting at the very bottom of the table, they are not horrible. They are not wretchedly bad. They seem a couple small steps away from being at least a mediocre Bundesliga side.

Away to Bremen will be an interesting test. They could do well - a draw perhaps - and gain the confidence to starting going forward. Or they could take another bad loss and undo anything they did with the win against BVB.

Bigpapa42
02-17-2007, 05:49 PM
Wow, they pulled a 2-0 win over Bremen away. Great win. Both goals from van der Vaart, who recently said he would stay with HSV even if they did get relegated. But this win pulls them off the bottom of the table. Hopefully, this can be a start for HSV to pull it back together and move up the table a bit. Or at least get out of the relegation zone.

2 draw cans always happen, I think they will be consistent enough now to avoid relegation and end the season in a safe position.

They have already been doing fantastic since Stevens became coach and in the bundesliga the opposition and play are both strong. So a draw can always happen, even against the supposedly 'weaker' teams.

They also had some recent promising July transfers which include Zidan and Otto Addo from Mainz, Saka from Borussia Dormund and Castelen from Feyenoord. Zidan has already scored his first goal for the club in the first round of the German Cup. So things are looking very promising for the club!!! Not up to Bayern standard of course but its something!!

However there's talk of Real Madrid coach being interested in signing Van Der Vaart for the spanish club. I think that was just speculation!!

After a bit of ugly, looks like van der Vaart will stay. Its pretty obvious his long-term future is outside of Hamburg - and almost certainly outside of Germany - but for now, he's still with HSV. Was not impressed with some of the comments he made after Valencia's interest came in recently, but it took some serious backbone to step up and take the penalty kick against Leverkusen after all of that.

Kompany is back and healthy. Only saw part of the match against Leverkusen, but Kompany looked very impressive. A lot of the struggles HSV had last year was due to injuries. If Kompany and van der Vaart can stay healthy, Hamburg could surprise many people this season.

Bigpapa42

After just a single season in Munich, Marcell Jansen is leaving the champions for Hamburger SV, where he will sign a five-year contract binding him to the northern club until 30 June 2013. I think it's a good signing for Hamburg because after all Jansen is German NT team player.

^I agree they slapped Juventus 3-0 in a friendly not too long ago but they will be above Bayern anytime soon because Hamburg is climbing up the ladders real fast... it sucks that such a great team isnt in champions league this year, best of luck to Hamburg... i think there in uefa cup but im not to sure?

yep, its very clever from him to leave Bayern. Playing in Hamburg will bring him a regular place at the starting squad. Also Jogi Löw said that this was the correct decision from Jansen.

Man, he will already play against my hometown club Arminia Bielefeld tomorrow . . :stop: ;)

I also admire Hamburg because of their connection with Rangers. However I only support, like, cheer for one club team and one team only!

I don't mind Stuttgart but I am not that bothered if they win or not.

Valencia are chasing Hamburg striker Ivica Olic.

The Croatia international's advisor, Gordon Stipic, revealed: "I can confirm that Valencia have established contact.

"Our priority is to renew with Hamburg. In a predictable time, we will conduct negotiations with Hamburg to discuss the future of Ivica."

Thrashed 3-0 by Hoffenheim.

Obasi x2 (Salihovic assist 1)
Ibisevic

Salihovic and Obasi came in team of the week.

Salihovic came 4 times, Ibisevic 6 times, Obasi I think like 2 times or something. Hoffenheimers are 1st place.

Hamburg was totally lost today...
