In statements to the Turkish press last weekend, Fenerbahce vice-chairman Murat Ozaydinli made some bizarre accusations concerning Galatasaray's finances. The day after GS chairman Ozhan Canaydin was re-elected,
Ozaydinli criticized Galatasaray for "running around town with a beggar's act for three or four months," an apparent reference to the fundraising campaign launched earlier this year by Adnan Polat.
Ozaydinli strangely questioned the extent of Galatasaray's debts, which are widely known to be over $100 million, and accused the club of financial impropriety: "I invite the Football Federation to look into these stories of poverty," he said.
But perhaps the most ignorant statement was this: "If they have so much trouble paying their players' salaries, then how do they remain in contention for the league title?" How, indeed? It's not all about money, Mr Ozaydinli.
