advertisement Nearly 800 Tucson high school students staged demonstrations Wednesday to protest a national effort to crack down on illegal immigration, causing some schools to lock their gates and even cancel classes.
Students at Cholla, Pueblo, Santa Rita and Sunnyside high schools walked out of class and in some cases scaled fences to leave campus, railing against proposed changes to immigration laws and border security, which some called racist.
About 50 police officers responded to the incidents, and two Pueblo students were cited for obstructing a public roadway. Some students also reportedly threw rocks at a vehicle outside the U.S. Border Patrol headquarters. But for the most part, the demonstrations were peaceful. And unlike the walkouts at Cholla and Pueblo, the Sunnyside demonstration — which involved the most students — was allowed by administrators.
The moves mirrored similar protests in cities nationwide, including Phoenix, where 1,000 high school students marched to the state Capitol on Tuesday. That was the second day in a row that Phoenix saw large student protests. Tucson's walkouts landed on the same day the U.S. Senate opened debate on an election-year immigration bill.
Students here said they hoped to bring attention to the immigration issue, but some school officials said they did not condone the actions, and students may face disciplinary action.
The first demonstrations began at Cholla High Magnet School, 2001 W. Starr Pass Blvd., when police say 200 students left just after 11 a.m. The students then walked 3 1/2 miles to Pueblo High Magnet School, 3500 S. 12th Ave.
By the time they arrived, the crowd had dwindled to 35 to 45 students, said Sgt. Mark Robinson, spokesman for the Tucson Police Department, and Pueblo officials had locked their gates. :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Maybe you didn't see the protests. The "protesters" were saying that they wanted the soutwestern U.S. to become a part of Mexico. :shocked:

It is really interesting to see that some people are actually informed and know some history of different places (Gerasim)

Ulster, The whole south west and even more of what today is the USA was mexican territory. Mexico was a very weak country after the independence with Spain in all aspects. The war of independence was long and at the end the people was divided, there was no real goverment, and the financial situation was terrible. The usa declared the destino manisfesto ideology which basically claims their divine right to expand their territory.

Mexico lost some wars with the USA and part of the territory started to be annexed to the USA just like that.

Guess what ? France also tried to invade mexico after that but the good thing is that they were so busy over europe with other problems that the french troops just returned to europe.

Now in a way mexico is getting back that territory :D History is funny sometimes.

If Hungarians were to claim back all the territory that now belongs to Romania I would not blame them.

I heard the same thing !! Actually here in mexico I also heard that on may 1 to show support we should not buy anything from any USA company

This all has been triggered by the severe laws that the USA now wants to implement.

Some states were already putting a tax on the money that the inmigrants were sending.

You basically ignored the idea behind that post. There are several generations of mexicans already in the USA not only the ones that went as inmigrants. When the USA took over the mexican territory do you think that by a miracle all the mexicans living there were transported to Mexico? The USA indeed took the mexican territory by wars. This is not a war. For wars look at Bush and Blair sending their people to Irak just to get control of the oil... do you think they really wanted to set free the people of irak and find the weapons of mass destruction :lol: why they did not go to North Korea instead?

It does not matter your race, if you are being opressed you will try to eventually do something about it.
