Djordjevic: It is time for the youngsters to step up News
written by Bogdan PETROVIC
Sasa Djordjevic will not play in the European Championships in Turkey. Madrid’s point guard briefed Yugoslav national team coach Svetislav Pesic about his decision to retire earlier this week, and explained his position in today’s interview with the Yugoslav press. “I will be 34 in August and my body won’t be able to cope with that kind of effort. The time for the younger guys has come. We have to build our team around Pedja Stojakovic. We have experienced players like Rebraca, Bodiroga, Tomasevic, Drobnjak and Scepanovic. Add to that talents like Jaric and Rakocevic and you’ll see that Yugoslavia has a good basketball future,” said Djordjevic. He also said that he was willing to work with the young players on the national team in the years to come.
Hopefully someone can step up and try to do at least half of the things Sasha did for the team:(:(
