Agreed. Football should be seen as a 'special case' so that exceptions relating to anti-discrimination laws may apply just as they do elsewhere.
And it is simple to do too. The problem in Europe is that legislation prevents restrictions relating to employment. But the key word is 'employment'. Clubs could sign as many 'foreigners' as they like but the restiction could apply to the matchday squad. I believe no 'employment' laws would be broken then, because no limit relating to actual employment has been imposed.
Obviously clubs would then examine their buying policy and concentrate more on home grown talent. But I really can't see that it infringes employment law.
My only doubt about this is that it's so bloody obvious, I can't believe it's not been considered before.....and perhaps dismissed as unworkable.

Ulster, for once u made a post related to football :) !!!!!!!!!
I remember that Arsenal had once fielded a playing 11 of no single British (let alone English) player and to add to the humor SGE had come to watch the match :ronaldo: Now who was he checking out
Chelsea is not the only example we've, there's also Real madrid. Recently real madrid made Ronaldo and Carlos take up Spanish citizenship to accomodate Cicinho and Baptitsa !!!!!
FIFA shud place some restrcition on not only the no of players but also have certain salary caps. This is 'cos club football is a very professional game and is money driven. If the game has to be improved all over then salary caps also need to be introduced else the rich clubs will continue to be richer and stronger and the major leagues wud be jus limited to 2 or 3 clubs. Roman Abramovich (I am not criticizing him 'cos he has not done anything wrong) and the sudden rise of Chelsea is an example of how money is ruling football.

Limit foreigners to 2 per team.

I think this will level the playing field a little more which will make football more exciting. Real Madrid will not be able to buy every great player in the world anymore.

Even though they did buy so many great players, it did nothing to really help them...
I see the point with limiting foreign players, but I tend to get excited when I see the prospect of Messi trying to turn Roberto Carlos, or Ruud Van Nistelrooy try to out-score Thierry Henry in the same match.
It adds excitement to the game when you bring in so many different backgrounds into one match...
Also, this is the same Blatter that wanted women to wear more revealing kits to attract more attention to women playing football.

I do not agree. This is what the WC,Euro, and the Champions League are for. Keeping foreign players limited will help with the development of young players in their native countries. I think this is a point you are over-looking.

What the hell is wrong with that idea? It would give me a reason to watch women's football.
Blatter is also and asshole! He says that he is outraged by the bad officiationg in the 2002 WC. He says that it is a good idea to have an electronic chip in the ball to verify if it is out of bounds but that he does not want to use video footage to check replays in order to check a refs calls. He claims that he wants to keep the "human element" to the sport. You know what that means don't you? It means that he can continue to fix the games for the deep pockets!

I agree 100% with Blatter, and I think this rule will eventually be forced.
However, i think that if some one is brought up through the youh academy in a different country, it should be allowed.

If they change their citizenship there is nothing Blatter can do.
