South Korean Fans Don't Want Brazil
11/28/2005 2:18:00 AM
A recent online survey carried out by South Korean internet portal Dreamwiz revealed that 70 percent of the nation’s fans don’t want Brazil to be in the same group in the 2006 Wor4ld Cup.
2,400 people responded to the poll ahead of the World Cup Draw on December 9 and other countries on the want-to-avoid list are Germany, Argentina, Italy, France and Spain.

I bet that 80% of Japanese fans wouldnt want them in our group either :bounce:

Well since no1's posting anything i'll link video's of Korean soccer in this thread. i'll try best to find videos worth watching.
With that being said i will post the first video~
This is the video from last sunday where Park played full 90min to help manchester beat westham 2-1. Also in this game they paid tribute to George Best Manchester united legend who has passed away.
Just Press Play: ManUtd vs WestHam (Park Highlites) (http://dory.mncast.com/mnc_movie.swf?movieID=454|M20051129175433) (He was rated 8/10 from skysports this game).

This next video is Barcelona vs Real Madrid. i have to say ronaldinho is simply amazing makes real madrid defenders and goalkeeper look so stupid. This one is a must see!!!3-0 Barcelona !! (http://www.cnu.ac.kr/~labor/board/ezboard.cgi?db=Photo_Board&action=down&dbf=215&ftype)

ar u serious?Cha play Wing Back?

Well its nothing official but he did play as a wing back for one game last week and he played quite well. Cha i think is much better as wingback because well he's clumbsy with the ball sometimes but he has the physical size and strenght to play as a wing back and he's extreamly fast so he can help on offense and run back to help defend.

Anyways did u see Manutd vs Aston Villa today?? Park Ji Sung played superb ^^ i'll try to upload some clips from the game. If ur manutd fan this is real good news, we're only 6 points behind chelsea now and chelsea has to play arsenal tomorrow(GO ARSENAL!!). We closed the gap from 12 points behind from the start of this week to just 6 points.
Sky sports ratings from this game:
RVN 9, ROONEY 8, PARK JI SUNG 8, FLETCHER 8.

RVN 1st goal (assisted by FLETCHER great assist btw)
ROONEY 2nd Goal (assisted by Park)

Park now has 4 assits 3 of which were to Rooney.

Well maybe he should start scoring like Ali Karimi. ;) :D J/K

But anyways, Park is doing good, and yes without Park, Rooney and other players wouldn't have as much goals as they have.

Park, Rooney, Scholes, Ruud, Giggs, and C.Ronaldo are what ManUtd are holding on with.

Park had many chances to score he's hit the post around 3 times but Park plays his role at manutd manutd have world class strikers for a reason thats why he finds rooney many times. When Rooney scores Manutd win its simple as that. he doesnt take many shots he always trys to set up plays and draw fouls. Park has the most fouls won, and 3rd most assists as Midfield on EPL.

pff thats load of bs go visite manutd forums on their official website and tell me what they think about park... Dam i dont think u know the meaning of Priceless. Priceless means good not bad... plus Park doesnt get nominated for AFC player of the year, and UEFA team of the year on the same year he's playing for Manutd for no reason... In fact Ronaldo was the only other manutd player nominated for uefa player of the year so what u have stated is completly out of wack.

The next game is tomorrow, its a carling cup game vs birmingham, both park and ronaldo will start.

for those who think manutd is having a bad season take a look at this its the stats from first 17 games in previous seasons:
Season Pts (17 games) Finish
2005/06 37 ?
2004/05 34 3
2003/04 40 3

When Rooney scores Manutd win its simple as that. he doesnt take many shots he always trys to set up plays and draw fouls. Park has the most fouls won, and 3rd most assists as Midfield on EPL.

Well maybe Park should try and play in a better club like Bayern Munich who beat Juventus in the Champions League, are currently the best club in Europe, the best club in Germany, and Karimi has scored many goals, assists, beautiful crosses, controlling the field instead of running around, etc.... etc...
;) :D

Anyways... lets not start a fight because we know who wins. ;) :D j/k

But seriously, I think Park should play more a goalscoring role like he did at PSV, rather than just passing and passing all the time, and only taking a few shots. But it's not all his fault though, Rooney, Ruud, C.Ronaldo etc aren't really players that like to help out more than they like to score so I still think its up to Park to step up to them. Maybe he just needs more time? I dunno but whatever happens I think he needs to show all he's got, because what I see when i see ManUtd play isn't the park from PSV.

yeah maybe, but look at Ali Karimi, he has been scoring amazing goals and even more assists, not to mention controlling the midfield for Bayern Munich. He hasn't been passing every time he gets the ball obviously, thats why Ballack is leaving. ;) :)

But then again Karimi and Park are 2 different players, Karimi is a centre midfielder, and Park looks like a attacking winger or forward... but Karimi still has scored more goals and assists....

honestly man, even though korea is put in a hard group( france, switz, and togo), with great communication and passing the ball at the right moments in the game and take shots when its given, i still think they have a chance to go to the next round.
my one big concern:
i know france was disappointed from the korea/ japan world cup. so they're out for some revenge. so know that france wants bandly to be first in their group, who would place second. the switz aren't a bad team and neither is togo. switz being a european team just gives them a lot of adv. from experience and player. togo has one of the leading scorers in the world, ahead of koreas leading men. soo... who will it be thats the million dollar question.

it was iran that knocked out korea out of the last asian cup. in fact korea never even played japan in the last ac.

it should be a big deal in korea too but koreans do not seem to think so. i think it would be great if koreans took it seriously as it would mean more exp at the confed cup.

AZNxTURTLEBOY

believe me, if korea does take the asian cup, it'll hype up everyone in korea for the world cup and make the korea team a lot more confident with each other and their coach. and from there, they'll make some great plays at the world cup in june when they face france, switz and togo.

my one concern is about the coach dealing with the team.
it hasnt been long since the new coach arrived and they still need to work out the lil kinks among the team.

Its not a sure thing yet so i wouldnt get too excited just yet, he is on trial right now and even if he does get the chance he needs a work permit which he failed to get last time Blackburn tried to get him in 2002. i would say its a 50/50 chance he'll join.

wow honestly what is your problem... i tryed to ignore u but u keep being annoying in the Korea football forum, we're here to enjoy ourselves not put up with your crap. Seriously we need a new mod and fast.

Those matches are just of all the games Advocatt played as the new head coach. He's been very good so far i hope he can bring home the win against denmark tomorrow.

Sure, those wins must've felt good, maybe even brought a hint of arrogance to the Korean fans, well, I'm pretty sure it did. But really, the matches against the European opponents, at least, were mere friendlies, and such encounters are useless indications on how these teams would fair if were played during a major tournament.

Danes down Korea
Feb 2, 2006
John Duerden/FootballAsia.com

Cho Jae-jin's goal was not enough for Korea as they lost 3-1 to Denmark [Stanley Chou/WSG]

HONG KONG - Denmark ended Korea Republic’s eight-game unbeaten run against European teams in emphatic style in Hong Kong, coming back from a goal down to record a comfortable 3-1 win on Wednesday.

Cho Jae-jin gave his team an early lead in the final of the Carlsberg Cup but goals from Lars Jacobbsen, Jesper Bech and Michael Silberbauer enabled the young Danes to inflict Dick Advocaat’s second defeat in eight games in charge of Korea.

It started so well for the Koreans, full of confidence after successive wins against Finland and Croatia. In the 14th minute, Park Chu-young floated a corner into the box from the right, a cross that was headed home by Cho Jae-jin after the Shimizu S-Pulse striker lost his marker at the left edge of the six-yard box to head home.

Eight minutes later, the 2002 World Cup semi-finalists almost extended their lead. A Kim Nam-il rocket from just outside the penalty area beat Danish ‘keeper Jesper Christiansen but not the crossbar.

The Asian team were in control but soon rued their missed chances as the Scandinavians got themselves back into the game. Anders Due took a short corner that found the Korean defence napping and Lars Jacobbsen in too much space just outside the right edge of the area. The FC Copenhagen midfielder lashed the ball into the top left corner of the goal to leave goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae with no chance.

The fast and aggressive Scandinavians were always in charge after their equaliser and Dick Advocaat’s team, playing their fifth game of their nine-match overseas tour, lost shape and composure and it seemed to be only a matter of time before the Danes scored.

It came in the 65th minute as the Korean defence failed to clear in their penalty area and allowed the ball to find Dennis Sorensen 15 yards out. Lee Woon-jae saved the shot nicely but Jesper Bech reacted quickest to the rebound and shot high into the net from close range.

Denmark continued to have chances but were denied by good goalkeeping and wayward finishing. With a minute remaining however, the 1992 European Champions got the third goal that their play deserved.

Soren Berg broke free down the left and squared the ball to Michael Silberbauer just inside the right side of the penalty area and the FC Copenhagen striker sidefooted it neatly past the exposed Korean goalkeeper as Denmark became the first team to score more than twice against Korea Republic since July 2004.

For the World Cup qualifiers it is a case of lessons needing to be learned as they travel to the United States for the next phase of their pre-Germany tune-up with the next game with MLS outfit LA Galaxy on February 8.

Learn from it.

No surprises here. Though the Danes aren't in the cup. If the cup was based on only the best teams in the world. The Danes would be in it, the Korea's wouldn't.

Korea-Iran clash rescheduled
Feb 3, 2006
FootballAsia.com

KUALA LUMPUR – The AFC Asian Cup 2007 qualifier between Korea Republic and Iran has been rescheduled from March 1 to early September to allow the teams the opportunity to play warm-up friendlies in their build-up to the FIFA World Cup.

The two teams had been scheduled to meet in a Group B qualifier in Korea on the date following last month’s Asian Cup qualifying draw in Kuala Lumpur. However, they have followed the example of fellow World Cup qualifiers Australia, Japan and Saudi Arabia by taking up the Asian Cup 2007 Organising Committee’s offer to reschedule the game.

The Iranian Football Federation announced this week that Iran will meet another World Cup qualifier, Costa Rica, at the Azadi Stadium on March 1. Korea Republic, who are currently on a training tour of the Middle East, Hong Kong and United States, have yet to make an announcement about their prospective opponents for that date.

Iran are scheduled to host Chinese Taipei in their first match of the Asian Cup qualifiers on February 22 while Korea will open their campaign with a visit to Syria.

Bucheon club relocates in Jeju
Feb 3, 2006
John Duerden/FootballAsia.com

SEOUL - In a shock move, K-League team Bucheon SK have upped sticks and moved to the Seogwipo World Cup Stadium in the southern island of Jeju to be reborn as Jeju United.

Despite the fact that the fixture list for the new season has already been announced, the Korea Professional Football Confederation (KPFC) gave the proposed move the seal of approval on Thursday afternoon.

Chung Soon-ki, the president of the SK Corporation, which has recently been beset by financial problems, explained the rationale behind the move.

"Five out of the nation's 14 clubs base their franchises in Seoul and its satellite cities, which makes it difficult for the K-league to develop in a more balanced manner nationwide. In particular, Jeju residents are eager to launch a pro soccer team."

The World Cup stadium at Seogwipo is the only arena built for the 2002 competition that is not currently used. Consequently there has been talk of the semi-tropical island hosting a K-League team for some time but the decision to move the Bucheon team came out of the blue.

Such moves are not unprecedented in the Korea Republic though they are less common than in the past. At the beginning of 2004, Anyang Cheetahs relocated to the capital and became FC Seoul while Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma are in their third home.

Bucheon, in their former guise of Yukong Elephants, were founder members of the K-League in 1983 and became champions six years later – the club’s only honour to date. The club then moved to the city squeezed between Incheon and Seoul in 1996.

Times have been hard for Bucheon’s long-suffering supporters but the team seemed to have turned a corner in 2005 as Guus Hiddink’s former assistant coach Jung Hae-sung steered the team to within a point of reaching the end of season championship play-offs.

They had the worst overall record in the K-League the previous season in 2004 but narrowly missed out on a spot in the AFC Champions League following a penalty shootout loss to Busan I’Park in the Korea FA Cup final.

Moves are already afoot by the disenfranchised fans to form a Bucheon Citizen team but for now those fans planning to attend the first home game, scheduled for March 15 against Suwon Samsung Bluewings, will face a 900 km round-trip journey

I'm merely dissapointed that one of the potentially better teams at the coming Cup decided to play at only 40% of their powers against a fellow Cup go-er who could've really used this as a good test case.
Korea has learned nothing out of it. Surely this isn't the Mexico we'll see at the Cup, so you guys can only have mixed feelings, but most probably frustrated feelings, of this most meaningless game.

You guys can't accept it can you. I've never got personal nor vehemently negative. It's criticism in it's purest form, but usually only very lightly.
If you people can't accept that, then you need to get yourself checked out. Try and respond to my arguments for a chance instead of this pathetic attempt at getting me banned. I guess that stops when I merely go along with your charade of how wonderful the Korean team is and how it can take on anyone in the world after one flukey World Cup. Well, that ain't gonna happen. This forum is for everyone to ventilate an opinion. Not just for the Korean yes-men.

Yeah, Park scored an amazing goal, when he got the ball he faked Figo and then slotted the ball through the Portuguese goalkeepers feet.

Dude there is no point of playing spain italy or portugal now since all their players are in european leagues. Since Advocaat Koreas played against Mexico, Croatia, Costa Rica, Denmark, USA, Finland, Greece, Serbia-montenegro, Sweden, Iran... Why isn't there a point? are you convinced Korea has what it takes to beat a full-strength Portuguese or Italian team? I think they'd struggle with their respective B-teams as it is.
And besides, usually the national team coaches call up strongest possible squad for meaningless friendlies too. On March 1 a host of friendlies will be played. I think you'll be surprisd how many teams that are going to the WC will have a lot of their best players playing in this preparation game.
Think before you tell me to go away peewee.

wow there is no point because playing a euro team without all of their players is meaningless no would would care if Korea beat a croatia B team...

And also march 1st is obviously a day for international games which is why the best players will play genius...
Korea will play vs Angola team much like Togo. Angola beat Togo 3-2 last time they played in january so this will be a very good friendly in preparation for Togo in germany.

But on days that have been designated for friendlies, all federations try to get their best players. For example, if Korea had booked Portugal for March 1, you can bet that Portugal would be fielding their strongest possible line-up. Of course there might be a few injuries and withdrawals for these types of games, but the intention is there to go full out. That's what I was trying to say, if only your infertile brain picked up on it.
And why is it that 99% of the Korean population think they're world-beaters when they beat a Croatian B team? in their eyes, they merely see Croatia AKA some good European team. They are in-capable of looking past the fact that Croatia clearly couldn't care about this game.
It's good that you're playing Angola soon. A team at about your level. But concerning WC opponents, it'll merely solve a third of your problems.

You know what I mean. When Korea beats Croatia, don't anyone dare say something bad bout their team, whether it was Croatia D that couldn't care bout the result, is not of concern to you people. You beat Croatia, and anyone with criticism should be crucified. Indeed, I shouldn't be talking to such primitive mindsets who merely glaze through tunnel visions.

Abominus, why do you always conduct yourself with such bitterness and vitriol? Is it such a crime for us to support our nation's football team and praise them when they do well?

While I believe Korea has a strong team, I will not go so far to say that Korea is among the strongest teams in the world. Anyone who compares our roster with those of the elite nations will realize this. Virtually no one thinks we are as good as Italy...or Spain...or even Portugal. Even the most passionate Korean fans I know (and trust me, I know a lot) would never make such a claim. Those who do are uninformed and in the vast minority.

But what I will say is...we had a darn good World Cup in 2002. Even if you think that home field advantage and the referees helped us out, you still can't deny the fact that we played at a very high level. I'm NOT saying that we are the 4th best team in the world...but rather, simply that we played excellent football. Why can't we just leave it at that?

My point is this: you are fighting a useless fight. Few people, if any, think we are "world beaters". And in the off-chance that someone does think so, why should you care anyway? What are you trying to prove? Think about it for a second -- who is being more ridiculous: the person who supports Korea after they defeat Croatia (even if was their B teams)...or the person who criticizes a Korean fan for supporting his team after a victory?

Rather than channeling your passion against Korea, why don't you use it for something constructive -- like supporting your own team? It is at once clear that you have nothing but negative, destructive (and possibly racist) motives. I suggest you leave and find a new hobby.

For all you Korean fans out there just think about this. After France 98 you had one player playing in Europe(Seo Jung Won at Strrasbourg)now you have player's at Premiership clubs and the game is getting more healthy in Korea. This is progress, when you watch the game this summer on TV the "pundits"will certainly take Korea more seriously than they did in the last 3 or 4 WC's.You are'nt going to win it,you probably know that right BUT you have what it takes to beat your first round opponents, cut back to pre 98 and all you wanted then was to record your first victory, now you have raised the bar and expectations are higher and rightly so.Good luck and remember friendlies don't mean shit.

Korea Downs Angola 1-0 in Wide Open Shot Fest
By Kim Hyun-cheol
Staff Reporter

The thousands of local football fans who gathered in Seoul’s Sangam World Cup Stadium, or around City Hall square and Kwanghwamun on March 1 Independence Movement day found their commitment to the squad worthwhile when Park Chu-young’s scored a first-half goal to lift South Korea over beat Angola 1-0.
It was the Korean side’s first match since returning from its training overseas. South Korea is 6-3-1 this year so far. It also stretched a winning streak at Sangam to four matches.

With powerful control from midfield, occupied by Korea’s foreign- based players, coach Dick Advocaat’s squad created relentless pressure throughout the match against the African World Cup qualifier. South Korean shots on goal outnumbered Angola’s 21-9, and none of the Angolan efforts came between the posts.

South Korea threatened the visitors within a minute to the match’s beginning. After Lee Dong-gook shot a left-footed drive from left out of the box, Park Chu-young and Park Jisung followed with another couple of close calls in a row off the rebounds.

Three minutes later, Park Jisung showed fancy footwork in charging into the Angolan box past three defenders before missing another scoring chance.

The Manchester United star again displayed he’s worth all the acclaim, producing rapid passes with Park Chu- Young in the eighth minute, when Park Chu-young saw his left-footer go slightly wide of the right post.

The South Korean effort finally led to a score in the 22nd minute. Lee Dong-gook, fed from Kim Nam-il, slotted the ball to the left to Park Chu-young. The FC Seoul striker kept charging to the left several meters then drove home a turnaround left-footed shot to the right side of the net.

The Angolans had few real opportunities, except a free kick in the 12th minute and a countering shot six minute before time.

Dude, I'm merely providing constructive criticism, no hint of being anti whatsoever. Too many people feel attacked too quick these days.

Abominus, I am leaving what happened between us in the past behind and I'm not gonna talk about it anymore. Raul has been fair and I have respect for him. I don't like words of war shooting around non-stop. I just want whatever bad about the past to be forgotten. Forgive and forget is what it should be. Just don't commit the same mistakes again and correct what was done wrong.

Anyway back to the topic. What Jihyun said is correct. There are so many Korean supporters around but we don't mean that Korea is amongst the best in the world. We're not stupid. We know how good or how bad Korean football is right now. 2002 was a turning point of Korean football because the team achieved the first win in the world cup and went on to do pretty well. We ended up 4th in the tournament doesn't mean we're the 4th best team in the world. Even if you argue that referees helped the team and home advantage helped, it
