the j-league only has one game left this weekend, and 5 teams are now capable of taking 1st. here is a article on it

After the end of a frantic afternoon’s action in Japan, with one game remaining only TWO points separate the top FIVE clubs.
Cerezo Osaka, who started the day in second place, are the new leaders despite being denied a victory by a last-minute Yokohama Marinos equaliser. Hiroaki Morishima put the visitors ahead a minute after the restart and Cerezo managed to defend that lead which looked like putting them three points clear at the top. However, the defending champions broke the hearts of half of the football fans in Osaka when defender Naoki Matsuda put the ball into the net in the 89th minute.

Previous leaders Gamba Osaka crashed to their fifth defeat in six games despite taking the lead at home to JEF United thanks to a Yasuhito Endo goal on the half-hour. The advantage lasted just four minutes as Yuki Abe equalised and just before the break Satoru YamagashiI scored what proved to be the winner. JEF stay in fifth but are now just two points off the top spot.

Last season’s runners-up Urawa Red Diamonds moved into third place with a 1-0 win over Jubilo Iwata thanks to a 79th own goal from South Korean international defender Kim Jin-kyu.

Long-time leaders Kashima Antlers twice came back from a goal down at Shimuzu S-Pulse to earn a 2-2 but the solitary point gained means that the injury-hit four-time champions slip to fourth place. Takuya Nozawa levelled the score just before half-time but S-Pulse regained the lead on the hour mark. Masaki Fukai struck seven minutes before the end to keep the Antlers’ faint title hopes alive.

At the opposite end of the table, Tokyo Verdy took the second automatic relegation spot after a 5-1 thrashing at Kashiwa Reysol. Despite the win, Kashiwa face the prospect of a two-legged relegation play-off with the third-place team from J2.

Elsewhere, FC Tokyo drew 1-1 with Kawasaki Frontale and Oita Trinita defeated Omiya Ardija.

1. Cerezo Osaka 58 2: Gamba Osaka 57 3: Urawa Reds 56 4: Kashima Antlers 56 5: JEF United 56

Nakata and Park shine in Carling Cup
Dec 1, 2005
Ian Griffiths/FootballAsia.com

LONDON – Asia will have two representatives in the quarter-finals of this season’s Carling Cup after Hidetoshi Nakata and Park Ji-sung helped steer Bolton Wanderers and Manchester United into the competition’s last eight on Wednesday night.

Japan international Nakata produced another commanding performance at the heart of Bolton’s midfield as Sam Allardyce’s charges squeezed past Championship side Leicester City 2-1 at the Reebok Stadium.

The two-time AFC Player of the Year, who is being linked with a permanent move to the Premiership outfit when Europe’s transfer window opens in January, was heavily involved throughout the game which had to rely on three goals in extra-time to produce a result.

Prolific Mexican frontman Jared Borgetti eventually broke the deadlock in the 104th minute when he neatly converted a cross from Spanish veteran Ivan Campo to give the home team a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later Ricardo Vaz Te doubled Bolton’s advantage when he fired home following good work from Nicky Hunt.

A late Leicester strike from Gareth Williams was not enough to prevent Nakata and his teammates progressing to the next round in a tournament that has the incentive of a UEFA Cup spot for the winners.

Meanwhile Korea Republic star Park Ji-sung played for over an hour in Manchester United’s comprehensive 3-1 demolition of Junichi Inamoto’s West Bromwich Albion at an emotion drenched Old Trafford.

On the night when a packed ‘Theatre of Dreams’ paid tribute to George Best, Park had by far the better of things against his great East Asian rival as early goals courtesy of Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty and a vicious Louis Saha drive virtually sealed the contest ahead of half-time.

Inamoto (twice) and Diomansy Kamara both went close for the Baggies before Park then thought he had earned United’s second penalty of the night when he was bundled over by Inamoto in the box only to see referee Mark Clattenberg wave away his appeals.

John 0’Shea added a third just before the hour mark thanks to some superb approach play by the impressive Park and Saha. Nathan Ellington grabbed what proved to be a consolation for the visitors after 77 minutes.

The draw for the quarter-finals, which will also include Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough, Wigan Athletic, Arsenal, Doncaster Rovers and Birmingham City, is scheduled to place on Saturday.

alright, this is good cuz Nakata played terribly this weekend....

Tokyo Verdy’s roller-coaster season ends this weekend as the 1993 and 1994 J-league champions play a final top flight game at Oita Trinita.
It has been a strange week for Ossie Ardiles’ old side as they learned which teams they will face in the 2006 AFC Champions League just days after their relegation fate was sealed with a 5-1 defeat at Kashiwa Reysol. The fact that such a capitulation came at the hands of the only team that Verdy could catch sums up the Greens campaign.

After the thrashing, one of several this season, coach Vadao, who replaced the fired Ardiles in August was despondent as the Daily Yomuiri reported.
"Anything I say will sound like an excuse right now," said the Brazilian.

Midfielder Daigo Kobayashi felt numb as it dawned on the players that they were destined for the drop and said. "My mind went blank after the final whistle."

Many felt that the Emperor’s Cup winners were in line for a strong season and captain Takuya Yamad agreed: "There are a lot of quality players at Verdy. But we just couldn’t combine, we couldn’t find a way to come together. We should have been playing hard from the very beginning, and not just at the end."

theyll be bak. I dont understand thsi team very well. They beat a full Real Madrid lineup 3-0, win the emperors cup, and then tehy get regulated?!

LONDON – Japan international Hidetoshi Nakata’s permanent move to Bolton Wanderers has been put on hold after the English outfit admitted they could not currently afford the 28-year-old midfielder.

Nakata, who joined the Reebok Stadium outfit on a season-long loan from Serie A side Fiorentina last July, was widely expected to sign a more substantial deal when Europe’s transfer window re-opens in January.

However, with the Italians demanding a transfer fee thought to be somewhere in the region of £2.5 million, Bolton boss Sam Allardyce has decided to wait until summer before opening further contract negotiations with the two-time AFC Player of the Year.

“It will be the end of the season when we look at making Nakata more permanent. The key reason is the fee,” explained Allardyce.

“That (fee) will have to be taken out of next season’s budget because the money this year will have to be used to add players in January.”

Having been forced out of Fiorentina’s first team by the club’s influential owner Diego Della Valle following a disastrous derby defeat at the hands of Siena nearly 10 months ago, the former Bellmare Hiratsuka star has quickly established himself as a key figure in a talented Bolton side that occupy seventh spot in the Premiership and are going strong in both the Carling and UEFA Cups.

Despite the frenetic pace and robust nature of England’s elite division, Nakata already has a plethora of impressive displays under his belt – including a Man-of-the-Match award against Portsmouth – and seems on the verge of repeating the success he enjoyed during previous spells with Perugia, Parma, Bologna and Roma where he notably won a league title medal in 2001.

damn, and Nakata has been doin so well at Bolton. I hope he will eventually make the move to bolton tho.

a little article about Nakamura i found

Nakamura a hit for Bhoys
Dec 2, 2005
John Duerden/FootballAsia.com

Any doubts that Celtic fans harboured about the $5 million or so that new boss Gordon Strachan had splashed out on Japanese playmaker Shunsuke Nakamura, were dispelled within the first minute of his debut in a 2-0 victory over Dundee United.

Within seconds of lining up at the Glasgow club’s impressive Parkhead Stadium for the first time, the 27-year-old powered a header past Derek Stille in the United goal. Dundee defender Alain Archibald may have cleared the ball off the line, but 60,000 fans were all already on their feet, cheering the new signing as were three million compatriots watching on television thousands of miles to the east.

The display by the 2000 J.League player of the year lifted some of the gloom that had settled around the east end of Glasgow as he had, in the words of his delighted new coach, “the best debut I've seen in a very long time. He showed why we were so keen to sign him and I'm very happy with his first match.”

Many fans in Japan were surprised that Nakamura was playing for Celtic at all as he was expected to choose Spain after spending three seasons with Reggina. However, he opted for Scotland and the Champions League after three years of relegation dogfights in Serie A.

It was an offer from a big club with a long history," the star explained to FIFA after his move. "At Reggina, we were one of the weaker teams and the emphasis was always on defence.”

Despite claims that his fluid style and graceful style would be out of place in the hurly-burly of the Scottish Premier League, the 2004 Asian Cup MVP has relished the different kind of challenge it offers, saying, “with Celtic being the strongest club in Scotland, it's a question of unlocking defences. The experience will be invaluable for the national team."

Unfortunately, the former Yokohama Marinos star still has to play in the most prestigious club competition in the world as the Scottish giants unexpectedly failed to make it past a qualifying tie with little-known Slovakian side Artmedia Bratislava.

The exit of hugely successful manager Martin O’Neill from the Parkhead hotseat was another massive blow for the first British club to be crowned the champions of Europe. Moreover, the opening day 4-4 draw at Motherwell may have been an exciting game to watch but the fact that Celtic needed a last-minute goal to tie a game they had been winning 3-1, did not sit well with the club’s faithful fans and Strachan was facing a battle to win them over.

Enter Nakamura with his passing ability and delicate touches which warmed the hearts of supporters looking for a new hero after the departure of the legendary Henrik Larsson to Barcelona.

The club was not slow to recognize the attractions of their Oriental addition and just days after his debut, visitors to Celtic’s official website were sent straight to a large picture of the new Bhoy in town.

Confirmation of his popularity came during Celtic’s 4-0 demolition of Dunfermline Athletic. The travelling fans reserved their loudest cheer of the game for when the playmaker opened his account for the club with the third goal of the day.

The mercurial maestro appreciated the support. “”What was most heartening of all was hearing the applause from the crowds when I subbed out”, he said. “That response injected me with energy. I want to repay those supporters who sent me that applause by improving my condition and making sure I contribute to a victory in the next game."

After Nakamura failed to land a place in Phillipe Troussier’s 2002 World Cup squad, most Europeans had to wait until June 2005 to see the playmaker in action. His excellent performance against Brazil in the Confederation Cup did enough to overshadow his compatriot Hidetoshi Nakata and pique Strachan’s interest.

An excellent long-range strike and a late free-kick that hit the bar for Masashi Oguro to bundle home the equaliser showed what he was capable of, and after presenting him with the Man of the Match award, FIFA executive Francisco Maturana paid tribute to the Kanagawa-born creative midfielder.

“You could almost say his it (his free-kick) was Brazilian in its execution. As well as these talents, you have to add his steely nature, which rubs off on his colleagues.”

His new colleagues are impressed. Striker John Hartson certainly is, “I know Shunsuke is a big name in Japan but I don’t think many of the lads had heard of him but you can see his incredible touch and vision.”

He may make it look “so Japaneasy” but after the disappointment of 2002 and three years fighting the drop in Italy, there is a toughness about Shunsuke Nakamura and a determination to succeed as Celtic fans will no doubt enjoy finding out.

A League: 'Kazu' Leaves Australia
12/5/2005 4:20:00 AM
Kazuyoshi Miura left Australia at the weekend after just four games in the A-League with FC Sydney.
The 38 year-old Japanese legend scored twice for the club during his time and was a hit with the fans.

In what is seen as a cynical marketing ploy by many, the striker will be available for the Australian team during the Club World Championship to be held later in the month in Japan.

Coach of Sydney FC Pierre Littbarski was delighted with ‘Kazu’s’ contribution during his short time Down Under.

"Every game he has got better and better. Kazu playing is really a pleasure because of his professionalism."

"I think Kazu did very well in his four games and it’s a pleasure to have him here."

J League Chairman Pleased With Kansai
12/5/2005 5:10:00 AM
J League chairman Masaru Suzuki complimented Gamba and Cerezo Osaka for helping to provide the most exciting championship race in history after Gamba took the title from their city rivals in injury time.
Cerezo just needed to win to guarantee the championship but were devastated as FC Tokyo equalised in the last-minute.

"I’m happy to see Kansai produce a championship team at last, as well as for Cerezo Osaka who were in the race until the very end," said Suzuki. "I hope this is the start of bigger and better things for Kansai football."

“Five teams don’t contend for a title that often," agreed Gamba’s international midfielder Yasuhito Endo after collecting his championship medal after a 4-2 win at Kawasaki Frontale. "We had the opportunity to play under pressure. We just had to win."

Id love to see a 5 team playoff in the EPL for the title.

heres another article tho...

J League: Reaction To Final Day Drama
12/5/2005 6:11:00 AM
Japanese football fans are still coming to terms with the events of Saturday when Gamba Osaka picked up their first ever title. Cerezo Osaka had two hands on the trophy until the last minute when FC Tokyo scored a devastating equaliser, giving the tchampionship to Gamba who won 4-2 at Kawasaki.
"I don’t know what to say," the Daily Yomiuri reported Gamba manager Akira Nishino as saying. "Finally, I guess. I’ve been a coach for so long and never won a championship. After four years at Gamba, I felt pressed to get it done.

"I personally wanted to focus on my game and didn’t want to know about the other teams. But I knew something had happened because people behind me were getting excited. I turned around and saw someone from the team crying, and that’s when I thought maybe we had done it."

Cerezo just needed to win to be sure of the title but FC Tokyo’s Yasuyuki Konno late strike broke pink and blue hearts.

"It was all up to us," Cerezo captain Hiroaki Morishima said. "We were in the position of deciding who wins the championship.

"If we want to get to where we’re trying to go, we have to win games like this. We need to start all over again, and come back next season a better team."

Cerezo coach Shinji Kobayashi said: "We just couldn’t get into a rhythm of any kind even after the goals, and right when we were about to, we made easy mistakes. It’s a shame because we came this far, and we couldn’t do it. I think it’s been a long time since we gave up a goal from a corner."

"We were able to score from the start at a very good time for us," the former Oita Trinita coach said. "But even though we were coming up with the goals, we couldn’t stay focused and panicked.

"It all came down to the last five, 10 minutes, and we couldn’t control the game during that time."

“But I’m not going to sit here and deny all that we have accomplished, to start questioning the makeup of the first team or our strategy.

"And you have to remember, did we get beat today? No. We missed the championship just by a step."

WC Draw: Zico Attacks FIFA
12/9/2005 9:15:00 PM
Zico, Japan’s Brazilian Coach and legendary striker, has let rip with a series of complaints about the functioning of football’s ‘high church’: FIFA. Apart from battering Blatter, Zico zapped the 2006 World Cup Organisation.

"It’s always the same. They always help the big-name nations. It’s all carefully planned so that it’s always the usual suspects who get to the final. It’s nothing more than a deliberate set-up. All this seeding and ranking stuff is engineered beforehand.”

“Think about it – we’re going into the draw already KNOWING that Brazil and Germany can only mathematically meet in the final. That takes a lot of the draw’s legitimacy away for a start. Brazil may well be World Cup holders, but they played the same WCQ scheme that Japan did, so why are they favoured in Group F?”

Zico also feared that referees would naturally sway to favour the big boys. “That already happened to us here [in Germany] during the Confederations Cup. We should be afraid of biased refereeing because, for example, if we fall in Germany’s group we’ve got a big handicap because the host nation always goes through”.

wow. Zico didnt strike me as thsi type, although i do have to agree with him on some level. this will be the hardest WC for Japan so far, and it will be interesting to see what the outcome will be.

Am a big fan of Japanese football (soccer, whatever)... and the players too. I enjoyed the video links posted.. very nice! I found a blog that has tons of talk on Japanese football, so just in case any of you don't know about it: http://footballjapan.blog14.fc2.com/ is the link. And you all probably know this site's been around for a while: http://www.wldcup.com/Asia/

it is true they are playing australia. even though the australian public underrates korea i think they are more overrating their own team. hiddink had to practically beg the kfa to let the australian team practice on korea.

Ono keen to impress again
Feb 2, 2006
FootballAsia.com

TOKYO – Former AFC Player of the Year Shinji Ono is keen to make an impression with the Japan national team in their upcoming matches after returning from his latest injury setback.

The 26-year-old, who has earned a recall from Japan coach Zico following his return to J.League side Urawa Reds after five seasons at Dutch side Feyenoord, joined the national team’s training camp in Miyazaki on Wednesday.

Japan are preparing to take on fellow World Cup qualifiers the United States in San Francisco on February 10, before beginning the defence of their Asian Cup crown with a home qualifier against India on February 22.

Speaking to the media, Ono stated his desire to impress once again after being blighted by a series of injury woes in recent years.

"I don't know how the other players felt about being based in Japan but when I was in Europe I couldn't play that much for Japan so being back home is a plus as I'll be able to train with the team more and play in more matches. I'm looking forward to that," said the 2002 AFC Player of the Year, as reported by the Kyodo news agency.

"The key for me is to get back my fitness one step at a time and hopefully I will be in top condition when the World Cup comes around."

Ono appeared in only one of Japan’s six matches in the Asian World Cup qualifiers in 2005 and has not played for his country since a Kirin Cup clash against United Arab Emirates last May. A toe injury kept him out of a friendly against Latvia in October.

However, he wants to put all of that behind him as Japan shape up to appear at their third consecutive World Cup in June.

"I've been in a difficult situation and the most important thing for me now is to try and work my way back into the team and win back the trust of the coach and my teammates," said Ono.

"Every time I am sidelined I come back with renewed purpose and this time will be no different. The mood in the camp is good and it's nice to be back."

Sharp Ono earns praise from Zico
4 February 2006

japan times

MIYAZAKI: Shinji Ono came in for praise from Japan’s Brazilian coach Zico as the national team training camp for the World Cup started wounding up.

Ono, who is back in the squad for the first time since last October after a series of injuries, impressed with his speed as an attacking midfielder. The team played and won a friendly warmup against a local high school outfit 5-0 in preparation for next week’s away friendly against the United States. The goalscorers were Mitsuo Ogasawara, who scored three, and Seiichiro Maki (a brace).

"Everyone played really well in the first game of the year and Ono looked really good," said Zico.

"Ono has played in that position on a number of occasions for Feyenoord, for the Japan Olympic team and the national team too. It's difficult if you can only play in one position but Ono's got the talent to be able to do the job in whatever position he plays," added the Brazilian, who called up goalkeepers Takashi Shimoda of Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Ryota Tsuzuki of Urawa Reds as replacements for first-choice Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi after injuries to FC Tokyo's Yoichi Doi and Kashima Antlers' Hitoshi Sogahata. Doi.

The 26-year-old joined Urawa Reds from Dutch side Feyenoord recently and immediately earned the callup.

"It was a great feeling being out there and my body really moved well today. It was nice to get a feel of the ball going forward instead of playing in a defensive role," said Ono.

Japan have lined up nine matches ahead of the World Cup, including friendlies against Bosnia-Herzegovina and World Cup hosts Germany.

about Hirayama

I don't know if he deserves to play for Japan NT, but many Japanese supporters want him.

Found these comments @ d risingsun news

i know alex is going through a bad patch but remember when he was playing good football?maybe he'll hit back with some good form this season.

Alex has been "going through a bad patch" for the past two years or more. Face it, he is over the hill, and try as you might, you cant turn back the clock.

Some players burn out early, and though Alex is listed as being "only" 29, he plays like he is a lot older. Also, keep in mind the story of Emerson. Birth certificates are not particularly reliable in Brazil. When Santos arrived in Japan, at the supposed age of 15, he was remarkably tall and mature-looking for a kid that age. I would not be the least bit surprised to discover that Alex is really 32 or 33. He certainly plays as if he is that old.

Interesting food for though huh ;)

Nakata helps Japan hold Bosnia 2-2
1 March 2006

DORTMUND, Germany: Hidetoshi Nakata scored in stoppage time Tuesday to help Japan draw 2-2 with Bosnia- Herzegovina in a World Cup warm-up match here.

Japan dominated the first half and took the lead in the 45th minute when Shunsuke Nakamura's corner kick was headed in by Naohiro Takahara. However, the restart saw Sergej Barbarez win a penalty in the 57th minute and Vladan Misimovic restored parity with a well-placed shot from the spot.

An error by Japanese goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi in the 67th minute allowed Emir Spahic to pounce on the ball and dispatch it home to make it 2-1 in Bosnia’s favour. Just when it looked like Zico’s men had run out of steam against the stubborn Bosnian defence, Bolton Wanderers midfielder Nakata popped up to head in the equaliser off a Shunsuke Nakamura cross.

"We had some ups and downs during the match, but we didn't give up until the end and got the equaliser. It was a good game for me to check the fitness level of the players," said Japan’s Brazilian coach Zico.

In four recent matches, Japan have won two, lost and drawn one each. The Asian champions continue their preparations for the World Cup with a friendly against Ecuador in Oita on March 30.

it should have ben 2-0 for Japan though. It was just stupid mistakes that cost Japan, and it showed the weakness of the Japanese team.

Zico was again heavily criticised in his choices of fromations as well.

Japan show weaknesses ahead of World Cup

TOKYO (AFP) - Asian champions Japan displayed their weaknesses heading into the World Cup as they finished 2-2 in a warm-up game against Bosnia-Hercegovina.

"Japan's 4-4-2 formation is on the verge of collapsing," ran the headline of the Nikkan Sports after Tuesday's embarrassment at Dortmund in World Cup venue Germany.

It was Japan's only match with their Europe-based players ahead of the finals. They played Bosnia as a prelude to their group opponents Croatia in June.

Zico's men also fell 3-2 to the United States in February in a friendly meant to simulate Group F opponents Australia.

SV Hamburg striker Naohiro Takahara opened the scoring against the Bosnians in first-half injury time with a header from Shunsuke Nakamura's left corner.

But defender Yuji Nakazawa, the J-League's 2004 Player of the Year, committed a foul in the area to give Zvjezdan Misimovic the chance to equalize with a penalty in the 57th minute.

Goalkeeper Yoshikatsu Kawaguchi's error allowed Emir Spahic to score an easy goal 10 minutes later to go ahead.

Japan evened the score at the last moment with Bolton midfielder Hidetoshi Nakata's header to a Nakamura cross from the right.

"Japan revealed the weaknesses in their formation against Bosnia-Hercegovina," commentator Ryohei Suzuki said in the daily tabloid Nikkan Gendai.

"In the defence, Tsuneyasu Miyamoto showed his weakness because of his lack of height, while Nakazawa made an easy error by pulling down an opponent in the area.

"It showed the weaknesses of the Japanese defenders against a speedy attacker," added Suzuki, a coach recognized by the German Football Association.

Bosnia coach Blaz Sliskovic was not charitable either.

"Japan will face a tough match against Croatia in the World Cup if they play like they did today. I can hardly say that they were stronger than us," he said.

Striker Sergej Barbarez said after overwhelming Japanese defenders with his height: "If Japan want to have good results in the World Cup, they need to level up in every aspect."

Suzuki said Zico's squad needed to "put pressure by playing in a small area between the defence line and front line."

"Zico's 4-4-2 formation cannot put pressure and it is difficult to either stop their opponents' attacks or snatch the ball to start attacks.

"Zico has said '4-4-2 is the best formation' and left everything to each player's ability and decision. I dare say he has no leadership."

Alex Santos was pathetic playing for Reds in their season opener vs Gamba Osaka. He singlehandedly allowed Kaji to score the equaliser. Zico has blind faith in this guy just because he is brazilian.

Like i said before Alex is crap.Their have been some ok naturalised Japanese players in the past, like Wagnes Lopes and Rui Ramos but Alex is useless

Yes its unfortunate he turned out like this. Alex was a very effective striker/winger during the late-90s but even then he played selfishly at times.

Here is another Brazilian who had expressed "interest" in playing for Japan, Rodrigo Tabata of Santos. He is 3rd generation ethnic Brazilian Japanese.

What's with you guys and going after anyone with Brazillian blood. I mean I have nothing against it but still you are gonna face Brazil in the World Cup anyways and it's better to use home grown talent with a different style.

The Japanese will not accept this guy on to the team, even though it is easier for Brazilian Japanese to get citizenship. Santos lived in Japan since the age of 14, and is fluent. This guy doesnt seem to be able to say ne thing past konichiwa.

We don't know for sure if Rodrigo speaks japanese or not but he will need to play in the J.League to get a work permit, a normal procedure for naturalisation i think.

There is another Brazilian Japanese called Tulio Tanaka playing for Urawa Reds as a defender. He already got capped by Japan at the U-23 level as soon as he was naturalised. But he also studied in Japan at age 15.

Expect to see some more half-gaijin or full-gaijin playing for Japan in the near future. Guys like Robert Cullen, Shimomura Tomi, Jun Marques Davidson and Mike Havenaar could all feature in post-Zico squads.

Japanese football is gaining its ground as the years go on, I am an Australian living in the UK, back home as it should, Japan Football is shown a great deal more than over here as its in our region, having missed my local club back home I have started a worldcupfootball website for fun, its simple but growing each day as countries are fighting to get their National Team Flag to the No 1 position, as always England is in the No1 position as they are hitting the site in large volumes, so if any of you are bored take a visit worldcupfootballteams.com, cc all Japanese and Australian frieds you know so the English get knock off from the top

And by the way, its going to be Australia v Japan in the WorldCup 2006 final

I was hoping that somebody here was interested in the Kirin Cup and that they might have some details about what is written on the Japan FA site (or know people that work there). Apparently the three games are now confirmed on this site (someone Japanese from another board was able to translate some of it). Still not sure what the dates are mind you. Any help appreciated. Will you be at these games? We estimate to take about 200 fans but it's difficult to say even for a regular traveller.

I'm sure your input would be greatly appreciated on the Scotland fans message board and you might manage to entice some other Scotland fans to visit here (or even Japan).

Sato helps Japan edge Ecuador
OITA, Japan: Japan had substitute striker Hisato Sato to thank for their narrow 1-0 victory over fellow finalists Ecuador in a World Cup warmup game on Thursday here.

The Brazilian-born Santos struck five minutes from time with an angled goal to give Zico’s men the victory.

"We played really well, we threatened their goal so many times. We just couldn't score because of their goalkeeper's fine saving," Sato said after the match.

"Rather than the fact that we defeated South American powerhouses, I'm glad that we were able to play our own game, especially in the second half. My players showed good fighting spirit," said Japan coach Zico.

"And they scored in the end. I'm glad with the way we played and with the win," added the Brazilian.

Japan will take on Brazil, Croatia and Australia in Group F, while Ecuador play hosts Germany, Costa Rica and Poland in Group A.

Not bad but I think Japan should play games away to get used to the different atmosphere

I sometimes watch some French Ligue 1 matches... and I've remained impressed when I saw him on January (or was it February, I now cannot recall exactly) for the quality demonstrated by this player called Daisuke Matsui of Le Mans. He indeed seems to have stunning abilities and incredible fast paced footwork as well as a good shot.
I'd really love to see him play in the Italian Serie A... I'm a Milan fan so I don't sincerely think a club like Milan would take him but, I think he could attempt first for some minor Serie A club and then like Nakata did for Perugia, pass after a successful season to a bigger club... maybe to Roma or Fiorentina where Nakata had been...

I'm really curious to see at the WC how Japan will play... it seems this team has some good and better talents in respect to the past... the player I'm most looking forward to watch is Daisuke Matsui but, I've heard a lot about this attacker called Sota Hirayama whom a dutch friend of mine says he's doing quite well in the Dutch Eredivisie and on this Tatsuya Tanaka who I've seen a short compil once on youtube.com and he seemed a very good player. Let's see how these guys cope playing in the WC... I think Matsui will be a blast if he plays like he does for Le Mans... anyway, all I hope is to see some great matches this WC as at the end I'm going to watch all of them! :)

On another note, Nakamura may be moving on...already! He says that his dream is to play in La Liga, and he would like to move, due to a recent di[p in his form, and being benched for quite sum time now. However, he scored 2 goals for Celtic this mornin!

Hey folks!!!....Having toughened up a bit here from his time, NAKAMURA will prove a great highlight to this years world cup. His touch is sublime, his vision, and ability to find players at range is beckhamesque....From a dead ball, corner, free kick, he is as consistent and talented as any. He will score 1 in 3 free kicks..at least. He plays with guile, craft, skill and with his heart. As clever as any..Can drift out of games at times, but what great players dont?..And with more assists than any I've seen for years, his magic will light up games!!!...P.s Dont bet on him scoring a free kick against Brazil, his coach, was one of the greatest from a free-kicks...Zico....Seriously, little Naka is a gem, and at GLASGOW CELTIC! We love our little Japanese wizard!!!..

Hirayama (Heracles/Holland) scored his 8th goal of the season today.

Glad to see Matsui's toughness has improved alot because of his stay in France. During his J.League years he was terrible. A primadona midfielder who show flashes of brilliance especially dribbling but easily silence by any hard nosed defender. Now if only Zico would notice him.

Takahara's main problem is his inconsistency. Because of this it is hard for Doll to pick him. He should have move to another Bundesliga club. Hide and Inamoto as well since they are invisible to the radar scope.

here is my analysis of what many overseas Japanese should do

Takahara: Transfer to a Swiss or French team. Better for him, in the 2nd league, like Oguro did

Inamoto: Return to Japan

Nakata Hide: Practice more. He is inconsistent, thats all.

Ono: Head to Celtic! Several sources have stated that after Nakamura felt he he needed to move on from Celtic, Strachan offered to double Naka's salaray, and bring in Ono, or another Japanese player! Talk about commited!

As for the other side...

Ogasawara: Move to the EPL. his only weakness it toughness, and that should toughen him rite up

Santos: Retire!

Yanagisawa: Kashima is fine, although I would have moved to a second rate team in Europe, maybe Serbia, so I could start

bluelightning
04-21-2006, 02:27 AM
Inamoto can still make it at Division 1 England or he could return to Gamba and rebuild his career and help Gamba lift another trophy :D.

Nakata Hide should get lots of practice in England. Its not like they dont train him or anything. The problem is that he thinks too highly of himself and should play in a less demanding league like Scotland.

Ogasawara is domestic at best. I cant seem him improving much higher than his current ability.

Ono should stay put at Reds. He is not fully fit and still getting play time. If he moves he will only make his recovery slower and moving now is the last thing he needs.

Nakamura would be crazy to leave Celtic. Where would he go ? Move to Real Madrid and help them sell Merchandise ?

Agree about Takahara playing at a lower level though.

I could only read a match report in the Yomuiri Shimbun. The Japan team was a J-League combination and the Bulgarians. according to the report, also fielded a second string 11. Apparently the home team missed a lot of chances, so its hard to assess just how significant this result is.

In my view, Matsui and Nakamura had a good season.
Hirayama also did well though he is still a raw player.
He far exceeded my expectation scoring 8 goals.

Okubo needs to move since he isn't playing as much as he should.

Good news for Japan NT, Kaji is injured and now Komano gets to start. Tanaka also replaced by Moniwa. Now we only need someone to break Alex, Fukunishi and Tamada.

I live in Shizuoka. There are two J-League teams, Espalus and Jubiro.
Both I like. I will suport my home team.
And do you know Takahara (FW). He is from Mishima same as me.

Injuries plague Japanese World Cup team ahead of friendly match with Malta
Japan team manager Zico, rear left, watches as Masashi Oguro shoots during a practice session in Bonn on May 31.

BONN -- Japan's World Cup squad has been hit by injuries as the team held its practice session at the SSF Bonn sports ground here on Wednesday ahead of its friendly match with Malta on June 4.

Japan's game with Malta will be its last before the World Cup finals begin. During the practice session on Wednesday the team members staged a mini game and shooting practice, but several injured players were unable to participate.

Akira Kaji, who sprained his right ankle in Japan's 2-2 draw with Germany in a friendly match on May 30, skipped the afternoon practice session that Japan's leading team participated in on Wednesday, resting in the team's hotel with Naohiro Takahara, who was suffering from pain in his right knee. Shunsuke Nakamura, who has a bruised leg, and Atsushi Yanagisawa also skipped the training session.

Makoto Tanaka has already returned to Japan with a pulled muscle behind his left thigh, and altogether, Japan's team was five players short of its 23 members during the practice session.

Takahara and two others are scheduled to return to play as early as June 1, but Kaji is scheduled to undergo rehabilitation, resting for several days in preparation for Japan's initial first-round match against Australia on June 12. (Mainichi)
