I am a Greek soccer fan, but man is the Argentina league great! I read a couple times that it was good, but when I saw it on T.V. not to long ago I was impressed. They got skill, good team work, and a fast pace game and all together that equals greatness. I wish the Greek league was like that. They got skill (alot of it too), and speed, but NO teamwork, and that is why they look bad at times. Anyway, just thought I should let you know how good your league is, and if there is ever a world club compotition that is very popular, I can see the Argentinian leagues dominating it.

i agree boca are a very good team and they can compete with just about anyteam in europe i think it was a big blow to sell palermo he is a very dangerous player the argentine leage is underrated but i dont think is as good as you say but river and boca are both very good teams

don't forget that Batigol was from boca too. i watched a few argentinian league game n' i completly agreed with u better than epl i said

Batigol, played for Velez, River and lastly Boca. But the players that have come out of Argentina lately are great and no Im not just saying this because Im biased. I mean there is Valencias Aimar, Palermo of course, Pochetinno, Samuel, Castroman, Killy Gonzales. And these are just the guys who have come to Europe in the last 2 years or so. There are greats still in Argentina like Saviola , Requilme and Ortega as well as Ibarra. Then of course there are the proven ones like , Batistuta, Redondo, Crespo, Lopez, Veron, Ayala, Chamot, Sensini, Almeyda, Zannetti, Simoene and the list goes on. I think right now and perhaps for the next 8 years Argentina will have a very bright future and both france and brazil will have to move over.
B@tigol
03-12-2001, 03:35 PM
i've to say that the first nation to be sweep off is France as they got terrible old players who always depend on 'lucks' to get the world cup n' european cup.the only quality player in france is zidane, who isn't a real french.
matias
03-12-2001, 03:48 PM
france is getting old and luck did play a part in both of thier trophy wins. However brazil too has been shaky and very inconsistent of late and are in a rebuilding stage. This Argentinian team , apart from about 3 or 4 new found talents is pretty much the same since 1998, so they will have had 4 years of being together by the time they get to japan . So I think with a bit of luck they will have a great chance of being the next WC champs. By the way how is the buzz over in Malaysia for the F1 race this weekend, and whats the weather like?
lilphenom
03-12-2001, 11:46 PM
i have to agree Argentina have so much dpeth in every position i dont think France is old they are still very dangerous and i would not want to play them but
Argentina in my opinion is the team to built i would not say brazil is rebuilding but they are just trying to find the right lineup i thik when the world cup comes along they will be there usual dangerous self , but a big thing in brazil is if Ronaldo regains his top form , but if there World Cup were to start today i wouls pick Argentina hands down

HAHAHA the weather was just fine n' we even thought there would be a lack of attendance which turned up to be false, the stands were packed n' shcumacher(whatever) won it again
come back to football,
i think the south american got the same amount of talents either argentina or brazil, they keep producing class players who dominated most of the major league in the world except for epl. so argentina n' brazil will perform greatly in wc 2002 in my opinion

Brazil has been in a slump and so have their players. If you look in Italy and Spain, you will see that most of the top teams have key players that are from Argentina, with the exception of Real Madrid of course, who I thought were a better more solid side with Redondo anyways. brazil is still good and so are thier players, but I think that the next 8 years will be ours.

but real madrid now got solari, cambiasso n' some that i forgotten. i think they could be classy players for real in the future as they possessed great qualities
matias

That it looks set that Real will be getting Schevchenko for next season. Talk about deadly offence!! Solari is decent , but has a lot yet to prove. Im looking forward to seeing Requilme and Saviola reach Barca soon. There is also a rumor that ex- world cup star the 32 year old Basualdo will be joining Barca next year from Boca!! Take Care,.

It would not be that unheard of. Just look at Lazio and the quality strikers they have fighting for a spot. I now hear that Sheva is also being looked at by Arsenal.

What's that?
I agree with what Andrija told you Kezman2000, in that comparing our league to Argentina's or infact most of other leagues in the world is simply foolish. ! Its well known our best players go abroad where they earn more money and became more known. (same goes for Argentina) Until we build as a country economically do not be expecting good things from our league. Right now our teams are made up of young 21 yeard olds who just rcently found out how to kick a ball. (Sarcasm) However, Mattias, Red Star have won the Euro Champs and World Club honour in 91. True thats the only thing we have won regarding club footbal however for a country so little and "poor" to do this, I'd say its a major accomplishment.

Dont want to start a huge argument here, and indeed you are correct that Red Star did win those honors in 1991 and it is a great achievement as is Croatia's great third place finnishing in 1998 WC. But here is another little fact, Argentine clubs have won the honor of World Club Champs a total 7 times, the first being Racing Club in 1967 and the most recent Boca Juniors in 2000. And in no way is Argentina a rich country either, in fact Peron and The Military government as well as its current government has spent Argentina to the poor house. Many of its clubs are reaching bankrupsy and must sell their top stars all the time, wich makes the countries club and national achievements quite astounding. In fact only Italy I believe has won more World Club honors and Brazil are tied. However, it is no doubt that what Red Star did back in 91 was awesome, and if I remember correctly in 1990 Yugoslavia outplayed a dire Argentine squad only to be ousted by penalties in the end. Take care.

I am in Canada rite now. So is Kezmania 2001. We live nearby go to sameschool. My fav player in boca and the world is Diego Armando Maradona. I also have plans in future to go to argentina and reside there!
Thats cool. The argument that could be made by some is that European Clubs don't care as much about the World Club Championship as do South Americans. If I am correct, the tournament takes place in the summer and many Euro clubs do not send their full A squads. Now I don't follow the World Club Championship closely, but do I remember Man UTD a couple of years ago were without stars like Beckham.

Sorry guys but I would have to disagree with you both. Burgos by the way stinks!! Argentina have not had a good keeper since Pumpido and even he was avarage. My fave keepers are, Toldo, Kahn, the national keeper from Portugal I forgot his name and as well Polands keeper is great. As far as strikers go, no argument that argentina might indeed have some of the best right now, Lopez, Batistuta, Cruz, Crespo, Saviola, Palermo, Sosa, too many to choose from. Midfielders as well, Ortega, Aimar, Gallardo, Zanetti, Simoene, Veron, Almeyda, Killy Gonzales, Gustavo Lopez, Claudio Husain, Vivas, Castroman and the list goes on. Defence is solid but could be better, Ayala, Samuel, Pochettino, Sorin, Ibarra, Chamot, not bad but Italy's and France is better. Goalkeepers is where I think our big weakness is. Burgos is a good shot stopper but lousy at anyhting coming through as a cross or corners, I would like to see Bizarri get a chance, but he is only the third string right now.Take care.

I was not trying to be mean or anything :), but I just wanted to point that out. As I read by matias, Aregentina having to many to choose from, man is he right. I strongly feal Argentina can walk away with the cup in 02. Brazil is not bad, but I don't see anything great happening any time soon because they need something, and I just can't put my finger on it? Italy has no new blood to show off and they are not as good as they were 3 years ago, at least no yet, and England and Germany has a easy group, so if they make it, every one will see how bad they are. France is Argentinas only opposition, but their skillful players are getting old. The only thing they (France) will have is experience and the ability to work as a team in a great manor.
By the way matias, I like those keepers you stated, but Greece still has the best keeper. Victor Bia might be Portugals, but I don't know for sure.

Machlas stills play. His game slowed down for a while after he got hurt, but he is back in form and scoring goals again :) . I know Machlas because I like all Greek soccer players, but how do you know him?
This goal keeper was voted the best in Europe and he beat out Toldo, Kahn, and Bia for the award. Oh by the way, it was an Italian committe who gave out the award.

03-26-2001, 04:31 AM
So I got to see Machlas in action a few times. By the way these neighbours of mine informed that greeks in general are big fans of Argentine soccer, is that true? He cant play on Saturday's because of his religion. Remember Roa, I think he still plays for Mallorca on a part time basis, about 2 years ago he retired to study in his religion. He came out of retirement when a few freinds told him he was throwing a natural talent away. He was I believe in 1999 voted keeper of the year, but a keeper who wont play on saturday' is really to hard to find a spot on the team for. Too bad really! Take care.

i always liked boca but when my club AEK Athens and Boca declared firendship and cooperation that did it for me! boca is the only club in south america that i support, any team that is friend to AEK i will support!
from boca, we got our best young player Fernando Navas, 21 years old. He is awesome!!! he scored on eof the best goals of the uefa cup this year in our 4-4 game against leverkusen in germany.
from boca we also got emmanuel ruiz and medina, but they are not so good (ruiz is decent), medina doesn't even play and will probably leave in the summer.

But they still use Vivas on a regular basis and I would hardly call the English league great. Argentina does look like being the faves, but they have a history of getting screwed. Hey, Matias and Diego, I live in Buenos Aires. How's your spanish doing these days? I've been to La Bombonera but i'm afraid not to see Boca (my team is Ferro, though right now we're in Primera B, a sort of C division, but we were on Primera división two years ago). To anybody that says the yugo league is better than argentina's, well, better go back to sleep to avoid the hangover. we've been feeding Europe in all its bigger clubs, and still we have players left to have a good league. And anyway, take the national teams, and compare line by line, player by player, and you'll see the difference.

Did you hear about Santilli, the new River Plate PREZ, said he wants to buy Riqulme but Juan said that he will never play there.
My pc crashed down so i had to stay outta here for a couple of weeks.
If you asked for a good player (leaving aside Boca´s Riquelme obviously) right now, well, there´s not much quantity but there´s still quality. I personally like D´Alessandro from River, Maxi Rodriguez and Ponzio from Newells (great players, did pretty well in the sub-20 championship along D´Alessandro), if we´re talking about young players, (I could name a few more but you wouldn´t have a clue) Romagnoli and Romeo are already sold to Bayern Leverkusen, though they aren´t really my favorites. Manso is kind of a promess never reaching its potential. He´s good, but too irregular in his performances and too skinny. Not that i take that as a setback, but he doesn´t seem to get ahead of it, as some other players do as Saviola, Ortega, etc.
I would really keep an eye on Maxi Rodriguez (And I´ll want my 10% - we "emergent" economies gotta stick together right Garrincha?:D:D)
ItalianBoy
10-03-2001, 06:15 AM
I know Romagnoli and Romeo from San Lorenzo, but I didnt know they signed for Leverk. Let me the players, I do know most of them and if I dont thats even better, Thanks
What about Cambiasso, his he that good?
Well, Cambiasso is pretty good, a real talent, but until he proves himself in Europe, I really don´t know how would he do (not that i´m saying he would suck, on the contrary). He´s kinda like Redondo, a natural 5 (central midfielder) but he can also play left=mid, and people who don´t like their style say that he (like Redondo) is not good for marking and that he doesn´t really makes damage when he has the ball in his feet. I personally think he´s a great player and even greater in the future when he gets more experience.
You want other players right? Well....starting with defenses, Boca´s Schiavi, Racing´s Maciel and Bedoya ( last one colombian), Serrizuela from San Lorenzo, River´s Yepes (colombian also) just to name a couple, midfielders like Falcón and Bujan from Velez (Castroman´s former club), Cambiasso as i´ve mentioned, Riquelme, Erviti from San Lorenzo, Ponzio and Rodriguez from Newells, and as forwards and strikers, Estevez from Racing, Ortega (i now he probably won´t go back to europe:D) from River, Delgado in Boca, Forlan from Independiente (from uruguay, great striker).....etc.
When a remember a couple more of´em that I´m missing I´ll tell ya.

What can you tell me about Burdisso and Cufre'? THe last one was bought by Roma for only 5M?
And he aint playing?!
I have this game that gives all the stas of players etc and Cufre' comes in as one of the best!
Well, Cufré is definetly good. He´s good in pretty much all the aspects of defending (he could be a bit faster, but he´s alright), and he´s not bad with the ball in his feet. He´s kinda like Samuel, saving the distances, of course.
Burdisso still needs more experience, but so far, he looks like a good prospect, but I don´t see him plying in europe for a while yet.
