Who do you think is the greatest all around player ever?
Who had the skill to finish the ball, read the play or stop a man from scoring?
Let the debating begin!

IMHO I think that the greastest all around player that there has ever been is Johan Cruyff.

This could be interesting. It's good to see players other than the forwards or free kick specialists being appreciated.
England's Bryan Robson is an obvious candidate. I'm not saying I think he's the best, I'm just throwing in the name. I particularly liked Alain Girresse (sp) of France and Germany's Gunther Netzer.

lampard, essien, pirlo, etc Basically these would be the central midfielders who have the dual respomsibility of defending as well as attacking.
Roberto Carlos and John terry are not short on getting their names on the scoresheet as well.....

lol yet I doubt that half the ppl in here dont even know the names that u are typing out....
I agree tho, Robson had a huge impact everywhere on the field. I heard that (actually) he could also play kepper, but not "world-class" level. can ne one clarify?

Hmmmm...I'm not sure, but he may have replaced a goalkeeper who was sent off in the days before sub keepers became routine.

WAY too many candidates. A clever way of asking the best player ever outside of Pele and Maradona (and Garrincha/Puskas/Eusebio/Van Basten) !!!
(In no particular order):
Di Stefano
Cruyff (a real thinker / revolutionary)
Beckenbauer :star:
Baresi
Maldini
Facchetti
Lothar Matthaus
Ruggerri
Of those names... I'd say BECKENBAUER

The best all around players in my opnion would be:
Johan Cruyff (Simply, a Legend)
Garrincha (Pele wasn't the only star who was responsible for the Worlds Cup)
Maldini (AC Milan's workhorse)
Gattuso (workhorse.)
Beckenbauer (Germany's old Ballack, but even greater)
Roberto Carlos (The greatest LeftBackDefender/goalscorer ;) :D )
Gerrard(he did everything for Liverpool when they won ChampionsLeague)

Gerrard and Lampard in the Premiership, Cruyff, Beckanbauer, Gatusso is a work-horse, Davids is great defensively and can pop up with some goals, Ronaldinho just does everything, Koeman was a good defender as well as being great at free-kicks and Henry for simply holding a whole team together.

I was surprised that no-one had mentioned George Best yet so I will. Any article you find on him you will read something along the lines of 'he could do anything he wanted on the football pitch'.
