Hello everyone,
With the draw coming up, there's a pretty good chance we'll encounter some South American group opposition. Even if we don't, the Uruguay squad has demonstrated that it can call on players from places such as Mexico, France and Germany, countries where we may not have as strong an influence.
Having said that, whomever we get, I hope we can engage the Uruguay fans in dialogue regarding potential South American opponents in our group, if we get any, or those other countries mentioned.
Having spent a lot of time taking pot-shots at each other it'd be nice to share some camraderie for a change, or at least some good tactical info regarding potential opponents.
Whaddaya say? ;]

I was actually thinking about this last night. Now i wouldnt be surprised if 90% of our Uruguayan members disappeared. That being said those who stick around will be most welcome too. :D

Still here. I just have to finish castrating Zalayeta once and for all, and I'll be right back with you. :D
(Actually, I need some sleep first. It's midnight here and I've been awake since 06:30, watching the game and then working non-stop)

But since we are at it, and before I leave my job (yes, midnight AND still working... I hate Wednesdays!), I have to say that Australia will need to improve a lot in the months before the Cup. My personal opinion is that this victory was not so much because of Australia's merits (which it had), but because of Uruguay's flaws (plenty o' them).

I thought Recoba could have finished us off had his shooting boots been on. We lived quite vicariously during those attacks, giving Richard Morales charitable free headers. The angle didn't work for him, nor was there any power in Zalayeta's effort late on.
Oh, and let's not forget Morales' blaze across goal [from the right side of the box] just going wide of Schwarzer's right post.

With Recoba gone, set-pieces lost all effectiveness and made things easier for us. When he went off you could see he was practically dead.
And did anyone see Fossati throw that ball into Scotty's back?? :mad2:

Ha yeh i saw that, pretty sad that he'd stoop that low. How about craig foster commentating after fossati threw it, i thought he was gonna go pitchside and knock his ass out.

I would have loved to see Foster take on Fossati...Maybe even Les Murray. Now thats Entertainment

Hi strazzque:
Some of us Uruguayans are still here and plan to at least be good spectators of the big show.
I don't know if many Uruguayans will be willing to give u the info u are expecting.I hope the knowledgable do.
If not u could invite some Mexican fans to engage in the dialogue(encountered a few the other day at the stadium(Australia vs Uruguay ;) ) and they were supporting Australia with fervour.(one so fervorous that was even abusive towards us Uruguayan fans) ;) (didn't see any French or German though)
I agree it would be nice to share some camraderie.I suspect u did see that is very possible with most of us.Tactical info? Australia learned quickly "some" Uruguayan tactics or didn't it? but Uruguay's tactics weren't that effective so...Do you really think our comments could be of much help;{ ? (joke! I know what u mean )
In any case,I have the feeling Australia will be encountering England and there u wouldn't need any help I suppose;]
So here we are strazzaque and thanks for the cordial invitation.

Good to see u mate! How did u do in your exams? Is it all good? I'm fine yep.Already over Uruguay's defeat.
Did u celebrate the Aussie win? It seems all is going good for Australia ah? I'm glad.
The era of soccer in the land down-under has started again or so it seems.
I wish Aussie Soccer all the best: the long and hard road to stardom has began:so go for it!
As for supporting Australia in the WC:hmmm don't know.I don't think so.
I like supporting the underdog but in this case,I'm considering other preferences. Now that Uruguay is out I would like to chose a team I believe could bring me cause for celebration at the end of the WC.
No shortage of support for Australia though coming from all corners within Australia and overseas and that is good to see.
I do support Australian soccer in other ways, trust me(which gives me peace of mind as a Uru-aussie.)
Hope to see u here in future.Good luck in your studies. After all there is life after soccer. ;) (winning or losing: the issue is becoming competitive and Australia is in the race again so cheers mate!(Uruguay always has been and will be in such race in my opinion so it is all good-a matter of being pacient and learning from each experience)
see'ya!

Brasil
Argentina
Ecuador
Paraguay
Those are the S.A. countries playing in the WC. Mexico has nothing to do with them. Always hated Mexico in football, is a very simkilar situation than what happens with AUS, they play their qualifyings against crappy teams but they do have a direct spot min the WC. Just for a matter of money, because is a country of more than 100 millions inhabitants, they are being allowed to play the majors club cups and the copa america. Competitions organized by the south american confederation. So they have the chance to play for important stuff such as a copa libertadores (the S.A. UEFA Champions league) or a Copa America, but they still continue to play their qualifying competition against teams as El Salvador, Belize, Republica Dominicana or Bermudas. It's just not fair. So I wish they go back to Mexico in the first round and is Australia makes it so, even better.
About Brazil. The president of the argentinian federation once said that when Brazil starts taking the game seriously, then everybody else will be playing for the second place. It's something weird. They are 2 or 3 steps beyond any other team in the planet but probably no other team in the world is so sensitive to changes of mood like they are. Sometimes playing against much more weaker teams they do a crappy job and can barely win or draw. They don't beat Uruguay in the 90 minutes since copa america's final in 1999.
Sometimes they play against world class teams such as England, Holland or Germany as if they were playing on the beach and get easy victories. The truth is, if they are inspired then it's all over.
Argentina is a team that can be defeated by doing a terrific tactic job and analyzing the game with extreme caution. They are not at the best moment today and they depend a lot on what Riquelme is able to do, and he is a very inconsistent player. Very hard but not in their peak. They are not invincible.
Ecuador based his 2 presences in the WC by playing in the height and moisture of Quito. With an overwhelming heat at 2500 meters high. They never get to final instances not in clubs competitions nor in NT competitions, youth as well. I really don't think they are a good team. Australia should be able to beat them.
Paraguay. VERY solid, VERY tactic team. The only country in the world that plays according to the "uruguayan school" (their coach is uruguayan). An unbreakable defense and excellent aerial game with great headers. They don't score much goals but they don't take goals either. It's almost impossible to beat them for more than a 1 goal diference.
VERY HARD OPPONENT FOR ANY TEAM IN THE WORLD.
That's my opinion.
