From the Australian....

He played down security concerns about returning to Montevideo, where four years ago the Australian team was jostled and spat at by paid agitators at Carrasco Airport.

"Last time it was blown out of proportion a little bit," he said. "There were a few people at the airport who were being silly.

"The Uruguayan people were really embarrassed about that thing that happened there. They were very apologetic, all the people in the streets, because they don't want their country to be shown in that sort of light.

"I think security won't be an issue. I think the main thing is that we're focused on our job."

Focus was Viduka's buzz word yesterday. He fell back to it each time the subject of what playing in front of a delirious human ocean of sky blue arose.

"This intimidation thing is irrelevant really," he said. "I don't think it really affects us because we do that every week (at a club level). Big games, big stadiums. Iran was probably more intimidating than Uruguay."

You Aussies are being spiteful and insulting over something that your own hero says was blown out of proportion. AKA, it was an excuse for coming up short.

Bresciano is out, can someone confirm?

pity we didnt get to see all of these 'apologetic people', its unfortunate for your country that your scum were the ones who got the media attention and therefore many australians base their opinions of uruguayans from these people

It is a pity....but I really don't care as most of the world thinks the whole of latam is like peru. In fact, URuguay is the opposite of this incident. Montevideo is the safest capital city in latin america. Its ironic that 5 guys changed an entire country's perception of us. But, whatever.

I think the pressure in the Centenario is huge. I know a lot fo your guys play in premiership, but sincerely the ambience there is cold. I watch a lot of premiership games and the stadium looks like a U2 concert rather than a football match. I think that a packed Latam stadium is one of the world's most exciting spectacles. El Centenario with 70k, w/ our 'The show must go on' flag, with the signal flares, and the 'Soy Celeste' is where the pressure comes from.

Sioncerely, I think that if there was pressure on the Socceroos last time, it was the stadium, not the airport incident.

I don't think they are exposed to hostile stadiums. Except maybe Aloisi and Bresciano, but the premiership guys I think are used to a very polite environment.

What do you think?

Aloisi - Spain, Bresciano, Grella - Italy, I dont know what Romainian stadiums are like with Thwaite.
Regardless, we wont be intimidated this time - our mentality is much stronger, Farina would pretty much shit his pants and that would pass on to the players, but Hiddink will flood the camp with confidence and we have no excuses this time. this is it.

Nice one. I'll try that for Australia's Prime Minister:

"I'll also say that it's a pity that we don't get to see all the apologetic Australians, it's unfortunate for your country that your scum is the one who gets the media attention, and therefore many Uruguayans base their opinions of Australians from these people."

I can do the same with any country, and it'll be far worse. Do you really want to go on with this?
