Franz Beckenbauer has told Michael Ballack that Real Madrid are his best option, should he opt to leave Bayern Munich in the summer.
The Bavarian giants' president would dearly love the Germany international to remain at the Allianz Arena next season, but numerous clubs are circling for his services.
Premiership giants Manchester United, Serie A titans Internazionale and Liga outfit Real Madrid have all been linked with New Year moves for the gifted midfielder.
While Beckenbauer is still hopeful Ballack will remain in Die Bundesliga, 'The Kaiser' believes Real should be his priority destination should he want a new challenge.
"I'd probably say yes to Real Madrid," responded Beckenbauer to Sport Bild when asked which club Ballack should join.
"They stand above all others in terms of legend. They're the ambition of everyone and it was the same in my time. But Michael must know where his own future lies.
"We understand that Michael is not shrieking hooray because he's got the chance to stay at Bayern and that he's studying the position.
"But take the Italian league. They often have crowds of just seven, eight or 9,000. That's like the regional league in Germany. I don't know if he'd have fun there."
