Barcelona president Joan Laporta is planning a big-money swoop for Arsenal superstar Thierry Henry.

Laporta has never made any secret of his desire to take the Frenchman to the Nou Camp.

And now according to The Daily Star he wants to use a deal for the Gunners' record all-time goalscorer to get himself re-elected to his post.

Henry returned to action by scoring twice in the Champions League win at Sparta Prague on Tuesday night.

But afterwards he once again refused to comment on a new Highbury contract, and has stated he'll only talk next summer.

That has once again alerted Barca, who would love to team up Henry with Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto'o and co in a dream forward line.

With Real Madrid already top-heavy with strikers Catalonia appears to be the likeliest destination for Henry if he doesn't agree a new deal with the Gunners.

Laporta has already used a high-profile deal to help an election campaign at the Nou Camp.

In the summer of 2003 his high-profile but ultimately fruitless pursuit of David Beckham saw him sweep to power.

But after missing out on Beckham to arch rivals Real he did pick up the considerable consolation prize of taking Ronaldinho from PSG for £21million

Now I know this article talks about Henry joining Barcelona soon, but if you read the botom few lines it says how Laporta was going to buy Beckham instead of Ronaldinho, but then Perez bought Beckham leaving Laporta with Ronaldinho.

yeah we would have, Beckham would have left Laporta saving his money, and Ronaldinho would be the next highest rated midfielder at the time, so yeah he would have been playing behind Robinho and Ronaldo right now. ;)

It isn't worth giving Becks 10 million thats just a lot of money for a player his caliber who's not in the level of Ronaldo, Zidane, Ronaldinho and Henry...but he wants to be payed more than those players, what a selfish guy. I say use the money to get Henry..then Real Madrid would be unstoppable.

I like Becks, but he isn't worth all that money for real.

he not selfidh he brings in around 50m yearly, so why not cash in on your appeal and popularity.

first of all Beckham brings in 50 million a year so he's basically paying his own salary and paying Real Madrid an extra 40 million through his image.

So giving him a raise is actually the only fair thing. :D

Anyways, he isn't a bad player, he's our number one crosser and free kick taker and also he is a hard worker as shown last week.

Anyways, I would have still prefered Ronaldinho, but hey Perez isn't that smart. :lol:

Beckham is in good form I agree, but seriously why would you even say that?

Ronaldinho behind Robinho, Ronaldo or Raul would be teh deadliest attack in Europe.

If Henry comes he's going to get spoiled and as me and others who watch the EPL know, Henry doesn't have trouble scoring against EPL defenders but in La Liga it's a different story, especially with his style he wouldn't fit in here.

Anyways, Ronaldinho will stay with Barca no doubt about that, he is in his prime and if we don't get him in a few years at least, then there is no point of wasting the amount of money that he is worth.
