Well I think that Argentina knows that football is a team sport.Brazil doesn't.
And 4 Brazil and Italy I tell u only one thing:WE ARE THE CHAMPS NOT U!u should learn something from us
As far as the 2nd paragraph, I could even agree (in terms) with you...
As far as the 1st, just found out you know absolutely nothing of football  ...
Babe: you forgot the two last times Brazil and Argentina played?
4 x 1 ans 3 x 0!
In the first game, Adriano scored the 3rd goal after almost 2 minutes of ball possession in favour of Brazil...
In the second, Kaká scored against them a goal exactly like Maradona's against England in 86!...
You sound like a Chinese to me speaking of football! :ronaldo: ...

and I probably know more things about football than u honey!coz if u say that the WCC is the most important cup in the world u don't really understand nothing about football.
And I still think that Argentina knows what is a team.Brazil doesn't.

PITHAGORAS' THEOREM:
The World is the World (the whole)...
Europe and SA are simply parts of that whole...
The WCC deals with the whole World...
European CL and South American Libertadores just deal with parts of that whole...
So = WCC more important...
Maybe you know more football than me; my Geography, however, is waaay better! ;) ...

Yeah, I agree.
After that 4 x 1 (2005), Argentina finally got to know "what is a team"
(they already knew though, since Maradona's times: they simply refused to concede it...)
How about that as far as..."team work"?...

Very much like Brazil's 4th goal against Italy in 1970 (35 years ago, same play, same score: as far as "team work", doesn't that suggest to you even a historical trend?!)...:

Anyways, just cause something has world in it doesn't make it the best in the world. If u compare the world to europe, the only other continent which can even come close to Europe is S.America. All those other continents havent don't anything to do this day, so "the world" hasn't accomplished anything.

Fener,
I didn't even know that you lived in US...
(if I ever knew it, I don't remember)
But, if there is one who might want to "come close" to us, that one is you, bud!...
What have you "accomplished"?...
We are 1st in the ranking, have more WCs - Brazil 5 x 4 Italy -, more WCCs (24 x 21); besides we gently run with the head up and the ball in the feet & not like wild bulls :ronaldo: ...
So you gotta respect what you pretensiously see as "the rest of the world", which is much bigger than you - & (see above) has "accomplished" more...
"Rest of the world" is Europe, bud...
By the way, your country - Turkey - is considered part of the "rest of the world" by the vast majority of the non-Muslim European countries...
Maybe if you had lived most of your life in Europe, you'd have felt that more harshly...
To them you are as "3rd world" as any Brazil, Argentina or Ivory Coast: don't join who is discriminating you, bud - COME TO THE (WINNING) SIDE!!!...:Peace:

1.ICCs, WCCs is all a matter of terminology: one was, and the other is, the top club's tournament in the world (the WCC is no more than an expanded ICC) - the total sum is 24 x 21 PERIOD.
2. I didn't say you personally tag Turkey as "3rd World", but the vast majority of Europeans do, and you know that!...

As we say KingKong, one swallow does not a summer make.
Just as you hold firm to your belief about your comment that Europeans view Turkey as a third world country just because Laury does not, I also hold firm to my belief that Europeans dont give a monkeys about the WCC just because you think Laury does. And as Laury pointed out, she doesn't give a monkeys about the WCC. It's the IC she cares about. You may not notice the difference in the IC or WCC but we do.
To say that whether there's an I or a W doesn't matter, it's the C that matters, is nonsense. It's like saying the SPL (Scottish Premier League) is the same as the EPL (English Premier League)!!! I mean, we all know that the SPL is vastly superior.......;) :D
(And incidentally, I disagree completely with your view that the rest of Europe looks down on Turkey as a 3rd world country...)

olympics are bigger than the WCC
Absolutely correct.
But: careful not "to confuse the ass with the trousers"!
(that's a good one too, Norm!...)
From top to bottom, if we are to agree that it's all a matter of hierarchy:
A. As far as nations are concerned, the top world competitions are (and, in my opinion, have to be):
1. The Olympics, since it's the one that deal with all sports
2. The World Cups
3. The Continental Cups (Euro Cup, Copa América, African Cup, Asian Cup, etc)
B. As far as clubs are concerned, the top world competitions are (and, in my opinion, have to be):
1. The World Championships (ICCs, in the past; WCC, present & future)
2. The Continental Championships (CL, Libertadores, etc)
3. The National Championships (Premiership, J-League, Brazilian, Norwegian, Nigerian etc)
Of course, Olympics in general is in a superior sphere if compared to WCCs or even to WCs: as it was said, it deals with all sports...
Not all sports though take the Olympics as the most important competition, since, for their degree of professionalism, they are not allowed there - and consequently cannot - or don't want to - display their main teams & individual players...
Examples: pro football, basketball, rugby, tennis, baseball (?), etc, for which the most important are their own Federation's World Cups, Grand Slams, Leagues etc
The Olympics is the oldest, most encompassing and most genuinely European competition of all: it was invented and established itself by traditionally rich countries from the Old World whose financial conditions were good enough for their athletes to practice their favourite sports without any lucrative ends, just "for the sport's sake" - summing up, perfectly within the Baron of Coubertin's olympic amateur spirit...
Something unthinkable for the poor countries of Africa, Asia, or Latin America of those times...
No surprise then if Europe had way "more" football gold medals in the Olympics than Third World countries...
Don't you think so, Nachi?...
In my opinion, it's absolutely unfair to compare European's achievements to LA's in such a traditionally exclusive competition...
As far as Europeans considering their competitions more important than the others', and vice-versa, with SAs considering more the Lib's Cup than the CL, or Africans and Asians "not giving a monkeys" to both (learned the expression with great Normthebarman), those are all cultural distortions that don't resist a less impassionate analysis...
What's important is the ball rolling within those 4 magic white lines...
"SEE YOU IN TOKYO NEXT DECEMBER, BARÇA!" FIRMED: THE WORLD!...

Wouldn't that be a cultural distortion too, Fener? Maybe you don't like it, because - I might be wrong - it's never been a popular sport in Turkey...
However, along with football and basketball, volleyball is among the 3 most popular ball sports on Earth...
By the way, the sport was invented in the States, which, in the 70s, had the most powerful volleyball of the world (Karch Kiraly is even universally considered as the Pelé of the sport)...

Yep ur wrong about not being popular in Turkey cause its one of the biggest, they show the competitions all the time. But in America its not. Its only popular in High school with the girls.
And u know y its so popular with the rest, cause its cheap and the rest can afford to play it. Just like how baseball is becoming quite popular though i really find it horrible.
American football and hockey are quite fun to play, its just that the rest of the world cant afford it.

Besides, Nachi:
The Olympics started in Greece, in VIII th BC...
The WCC started in the Western World, in 1960...
Of course, the Olympics historically has to be more prestigious; furthermore, encompasses all sports (and, because of that, a greater variety of countries)...
In that sense, it's way more popular than the CL too, or the EuroCup  ...

Yep ur wrong about not being popular in Turkey cause its one of the biggest, they show the competitions all the time. But in America its not. Its only popular in High school with the girls.
I'm sure you have nothing against girls...
You seem though to get along quite well with the patriarchal American way of thinking, which sees women as eternal adolescents and disdains their preferences in sports.
I mean i can understand beach volleyball with the girls but just normal volleyball is horrible. Thats y it probably never caught on with americans.
Yeah, in the beach it's OK cuzz you can see those luscious thighs, huh "smartso"?! ...

Won't perhaps the "inferiority complex" come from you, instead, who saw a club from "tiny" New Zealand to classify for the WCC, but none from your "big" Australian continent? ...

And incidentally, I disagree completely with your view that the rest of Europe looks down on Turkey as a 3rd world country...
That one you lost, Norm:
Read carefully the whole thread in which this post can be found:
THREAD: Turkey must not join the EU!
Turks in Turkey, you should not want to desire to join a club full of chauvinistic, racist, christians. They don't want you in, not due to any real reason other than your religion and the size of your country( economy is not valid because Turkey's economy is much more powerful and larger than Poland's, the largest new member and economic growth results in 6% a year). You all know of your glorious Turkic ancestry, why do you want to illusion yourself with ideas of Europeanism. It's true that we may have quite a bit of European genes in us, but we originated from Central Asia( as did most of the Germanic peoples and slavs, but we kicked their asses out lol) so that is where our culture lies, and we managed to preserve our culture much more than the early Europeans did who settled down unlike us nomads. We're genetically hybridized with mongoloids and so we don't match most of the EU's peoples( ok maybe Hungary) and the bastards will not hesitate to point this out when they run out of excuses.
Why do you want to be in a Union with bureaucrats dictating your policy in Brussels? Should your country lose its great military might? Should the heroic Turkish troops pull out of Cyprus and stop protecting the Turkish Cypriot community and lose a valuable strategic position? Should we raitfy the treaty of Sevres, an outrageous proposal made by a far-right French MP. That would give us Turks kapadokya, and give Kurds, Greeks, and Armenians land within the Anadolu, and give Italians, French and British colonies( what an openly imperialistic proposal, I would break off all diplomatic ties with the EU if they made such a suggestion to me). Should we give in to these foreigners trying to break up the Turkish motherland? Should Kurds be allowed to terrorize our country then make us seem as aggressors and force us to make concessions to them? Should Armenians with their tall tale of genocide and strong lobbies be allowed to taunt us even more and make us accept their false ploys( I would never want to consent to pro-Nazis and Anti-Semites like Armenians)? Should we enter the EU( if by miracle) and be blamed for the economic regression and high inflation rate?
The answer is NONONONONONO!
The best solution is special partnership( would bring us some economic benefits). It would be good to have Switzerland's status, but we should turn to Turan and Central Asia and think about creating our own union. The Turan economic and politicial unionm, which would be fronted by us, the mother nation.
Take a look now at another thread of this Forum:
THREAD: http://forums.soccerfansnetwork.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Is European Soccer Racist???
Europe has no right to bash Turkey (though admittedly they have done wrong) when the obviuos racist Arian behavior leads them. This is not just a Turkish issue but an issue that is and will eat the european soccer community as well as the social community from the inside out. If you can not face the fact that the mojority of Europe is led by racists (Blatter and the likes) you are all in for a serious awakening.
We have seen much much worse things happen in european stadiums (anyone remember Roma v Galatasaray a few years ago when Turkish players were beaten, on tape in front of millions and Roma got a 1 game away penalty that was later dropped.) Ofcourse no one will want to admit that there is racism in such FINE establishments like FIFA, UEFA or the EU. Dream on Europe, some day you will wake up and wish things had been treated much differently.
People make judgements even at the highest levels based on prejudice and racism. There are many that know what happened during that game (TURKEY v SWISS) and the penalty is not near what the books call for. A penalty is ofcourse expected, even a heavy one, but not this type of punishment that has no basis. I ask you all to look into previous punishmenst and look at what REALLY happened in Istanbul. You will find a huge discrepency.:mad2: :mad2:
First of all Turkey is not a European country, so they should have never been playing Switzerland in a WC Qualifier in the first place.
And, just take a look at the MEMBERS COUNTRIES thread  ...
C'mon, Norm, do you insist? ...

KARCH KIRALY AND THE US OLYMPIC TEAM:
http://images.beijing-2008.org/66/94/Img212019466.jpg
DOES THAT LOOK A BUNCH OF GIRLS TO YOU???...
Volleyball legend and three-time Gold Medalist, Karch Kiraly is synonymous with the sport of Pro Volleyball. Clearly the 'winningest' player in the history of the sport, Karch has earned more than three million dollars playing volleyball and has become one of the most recognized sports figures today.
At age 45, Kiraly is considered the "Michael Jordan" of pro volleyball as he is the oldest player to compete in the sport and continues to perform at the highest level --- beating competitors literally half his age. He has won at least one tournament in 24 of the 27 seasons he has played, spanning four different decades. He has claimed a title in 24 different states with 13 different partners. In domestic events, he has finished lower than ninth place only four times and has been in the semifinals over 80% of the time.
Kiraly and partner Mike Lambert were named 2004 AVP Team of the Year after capturing three titles, then won in Huntington in 2005 to give him win number 148. Kiraly finished the 2005 season ranked fourth on the Tour in both kills (1,243) and digs (805).
Kiraly is the only volleyball player in Olympic history to win three Gold medals, having been part of the United States' Gold Medal indoor teams in 1984 and 1988, and winning the Gold Medal in beach volleyball at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games with Kent Steffes.
In 1992, Kiraly was inducted into the UCLA Hall of Fame and had his jersey retired after an All-American volleyball career with the Bruins. While in school, he led his team to three NCAA Championships (1979, 1981 and 1982) and earned All-American honors all four years. In his four years, the Bruins compiled a 123-5 match record, with undefeated seasons in both 1979 and 1982.
Kiraly grew up in Santa Barbara and learned volleyball from his father, Dr. Laszlo Kiraly. He graduated from high school third in his class with a 3.96 grade-point average.
Throughout his career, Kiraly has earned countless accolades including: AVP Best Defensive Player (2002), AVP Best Offensive Player (1990, 1993, 1994), AVP Comeback Player of the Year (1997), AVP Most Valuable Player (1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1998), AVP Sportsman of the Year (1995, 1997, 1998) and most recently AVP Outstanding Achievement (2004). The FIVB has named Kiraly "Best Player in the World" twice, in 1986 and 1988. He was inducted into the 2005 AVCA Hall of Fame Class.
Kiraly currently resides in San Clemente, California with his wife Janna and his two sons Kristian and Kory.

Volleyball? American Football? Where am I?
Just a little digression, Nachi: but you're right, back to topic!...
KK, post a current South America 11.We can do this for all time too, but I dont think any of the European supporters here have seen many games from the 60's and 70's. I will post a corresponding Europe 11. Then we can compare the two, player for player, and strategy wise.
Nachi,
Deal!...

I myself sometimes catch me making fun of Am Foot, but just to tease Fener and all that traditional & pointless "American"* bragging  ...
Americans used to brag more though before Gagarin and Vietnam, or before "unprobable" sports countries - Brazil (Indianapolis PanAm Games) and USSR (Rome Olympics) - ended their basketball dinasty in the world...
Their chin (although many won't concede, like Fenerlyiym, who not even a real American is, but strives to be), their chin is progressively lowering: beautiful to see it...
Because of that, nowadays, even playing with their Dream Teams, they've been losing the last Olympics basketball gold to nations like Croatia and Argentina :ronaldo: ...
However, I think that any sport can be great if you are into it and you are able to play it well (even Am Foot, golf, cricket or baseball, which we in our case tend to dislike simply because they are not part of our sports tradition).
Am Foot however, although is a bit ridiculous (with those piles of men one on top of the other), can be be very exciting indeed (has lots of great tactics and moves)...
What must be humiliating to them however is that the world (and how they love that word!) doesn't give a monkeys about those so 2 cherrished girls of their eyes: Am Foot and Baseball...
Worse: they have to concede (although reluctantly) that real football, which they despectively call soccer - & even basketball and volleyball (either man's or women's) - are way - but WAY! - more popular than them in the planet...
_______________________________________________________________
* Putting "American" into quotation marks 'cuzz not even the word that expresses their nationality is for real: the word America designates not only 1 but 3 continents: North, Central and South...
Besides, the 1st time the word America appeared in a map in History (early XVIth century) was on a map of South America, more specifically in the region where could already be found at that time a country named...Brazil!
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1276/1507waldseemuller2l2688ul7.jpg
Click in the link below so you can have a larger version (use the arrows): & there you can see the word America for the 1st in History inserted in a map - and placed exactly in the middle of South America, more precisely...Brazil!

Take a look also at the Library of Congress link, from which that image was taken, and where all I'm saying can be confirmed:
http://www.loc.gov/today/pr/2001/01-093.html
They didn't only rob Mexico - Texas, California, New Mexico, Florida, Arizona, Colorado - their lands: even the name of their country is a theft...
And our Fener is proud of "what"?...

One interesting thing to see too is how Europe at the time was so much "bigger" than America - and placed in the CENTER of the world......
http://www.loc.gov/today/pr/images/middlemap.jpg
America by then was only a narrow strip of land...
And probably that's STILL the map of the world most Europeans in this Forum have in their heads, when they fill their chest with their Euro, CLs and UEFA's cups  ...
They still think they are they are the bigger and are in the center of the world...
Is that also why the World Clubs Championship is "not important" for them? :boo: ...

Who wiped those civilizations were the Spanish, "Old Worlders" just like you!...
Besides you (Fenerliyim) didn't "take" any land at all - you lost one: your Turkey - that very soon - if you don't stop George W. Bush - is going to be wiped out from the Earth map by US atomic threats :ronaldo: ...

Nor "descendants of tribes" (not those, at least), nor Europeans...
Both.
Add the Africans - and a little formula I won't teach you because it's innate and cannot be "learned" (one's just born with it, and scientists call it "talent") - shake it well, and you'll have the best football of the planet! ;) ...

C'mon Laury:
If there is somebody that when states something in this Forum, states it totally backed with (solid) argumentation, that someone - with a few honorable European exceptions & sorry for my frankness - is me!...
And not only that: it's solid argumentation that invariably takes in consideration opposite opinions, as I always do towards yours, Fener's or anybody else's in this Forum! - and you are the ones who don't listen, and just keep repeating like parrots: Europe is better! Europe is better!, as if that would solve your problems!..
You're last post to Leo07 is a perfect example:
the european leagues are better coz they are full of EUROPEANS and they hav EUROPEANS coach
On the other hand, even when I'm just kidding, like in my last post to you, the arguments are there: for instance, Brazil 5 x 4 Italy in 76 years of brilliantly won World Cups - in my opinion, and, although you will deny, in your opinion too! - is WAY more important than a "last WC" (a temporary 4-year condition), won mediocherly in PKs...
That's so much true (and I keep reasoning, as always) that you've just won a WC, and were not even able to salvage a 2nd place in the world rankings!...
Why? Simply because (among a number of other reasons), right after that "epic conquest", in the very first game of the Euro Cup the glorious Italian champs lost to Albania (or Letonia)...
On the other hand, Brazil has always maintained itself on the top of the ranking for decades and decades, even when eventually losing WCs - right after the Cup, on its turn, Brazil crushed Argentina in Sweden 3 x 0 and in the sequence kept beating European teams in the next 3 games - and that's what determines the dominance of South America in the sport (with the precious help of Argentina and Uruguay): not only the unmatchable brilliance of its game, but the consistency with which it maintains itself on the top - sorry if that hurts your European pride...
As far as your "leagues issue", the thread's theme is "Europe vs S. America", and way more determinant to establish who is ahead are real, actual, concrete results, and not debatable considerations about "who has the best league"...
If you historically have the best leagues (and, because of that, accordingly to you, the best football) why don't you have - NT & clubwise - better records than us?...
Oh, because football is unpredictabe? If it were to consider a 4-year span I'd be the 1st to agree with you...
But...76 years???...
That blatant truth has been put forth by me since I entered this Forum in March 2005 - and it has never been contested (shall I assume there are no arguments against it?)!...
And I'm the one who won't listen! ...
C'mon Fener, tell us all what you want "to put in my head"!...
Tell us that secret never revealed to SFN before!...

At last, you started producing real honey! :ronaldo: ...
1. The WCC "sucks" to you because you keep losing to SA teams all the time, and that just exposes the weakness of your "powerhouses" and "famous" leagues; if you won, you'd be throwing it in our faces!...
2. We won a WC in PKs, but won other 4 in normal time (& the score was Brazil [SA] 14 x 4 Europe); you won 3 in normal time (and the score was Italy [EU] 0 x 0 S. America, since you just faced Euros)
That means:
In the finals we became champions we scored 14 goals against you; in the finals you became champions you never scored a miserable goal against us!...
You never had the pleasure to score against SA in a final and cry "we are the Champs"! :ronaldo: ...
3. Do you know why Baggio's ball flew to Milano? Simply because of TRADITION: the best Italian player of history...trembled when he saw Taffarel's yellow-green jersey in front of him! :D (certainly had in his mind that 4 x 1 in Mexico's 1970 WC)...
4. Who mentioned FIFA's rankings? Brazil is N.1 in any world ranking!...
5. On top form or not, no World Champions are allowed to lose an official game to...Lituania!
6. Brazil is the best nt in the world...it doesn't hurt me...my team is the best in europe.
Again the parrotlike "Europe is best" talk again!..."Even better than the world"! OOO-WOW!...
7. ur players come to Europe coz they LIKE our football.u should ask them why
What they like in your football is MONEY - if money were in Afghanistan, not even Europeans would "like" to play in Europe! ...
At last - it's true - we got some "argumentation" from you!...
Not too solid though, I guess! :boo: ...

Laury,
Don't try to run:
1. I said:
"(...) The WCC "sucks" to you because you keep losing to SA teams all the time, and that just exposes the weakness of your "powerhouses" and "famous" leagues"
To what you responded:
Tell me when my TEAM lost a WCC against ur team
The conversation was not around "your team" - Inter, I already know - but about European teams in general vs SA's in WCCs... Not about Inter x The World, understood? (you are really sweet though as a fanatic Inter rooter!) ;) ...
2. You said:
Brazil is the best nt in the world...u won 5 cups...congrats!!And it doesn't hurt me...coz my team is the best in europe
Again: nobody was speaking of "our" cups [in SA] vs "your" cups[in EU], but of World Cups and Euro Cups, and of course WCs are extremely more important than Euro Cups - don't you think so?
3. You said;
Italia vs West Germany 4-3...u don't hav a match like that in ur f******* history.
Now you're "bullshitting", Laury!...
Can cite several to you:
Brazil 6 x 1 Spain (1950 WC), Brazil 7 x Czechs 0 (1950 WC), Brazil 6 x 5 Poland (1954 WC), Brazil 5 x 2 France (1958 WC), Brazil 5 x 2 Sweden (1958 WC final), Brazil 2 x 1 Spain (1962 WC), Brazil 3 x 0 England (1962 WC), Brazil 4 Czechs 1 (1970 WC), Brazil 1 x 0 England (1970 WC), Brazil 3 x 1 Uruguay (1970 WC), Brazil 4 x 1 Italy (1970 WC final), Brazil 3 x 1 Argentina (1974 WC), Brazil 3 x 1 Italy dispute 3rd place (1978 WC), Brazil 3 x 1 Argentina [Maradona playing] (1982 WC), Brazil 2 x 0 Russia (!994 WC), Brazil 3 x 2 Holland (1994 WC), Brazil 1 x 0 Holland (1998 WC), Brazil 2 x 1 England (2002 WC), Brazil 2 x Germany 0 (2002 WC final), and many and many others...
4. the FIFA ranking is the most important?!?!and please explain to me why USA is better than Italy if u know so many things.
Once more you're conveniently trying to make things confuse: never said FIFa's was the most important ranking; I said " Brazil is 1st in any ranking"; neither I said USA was better than Italy (did you drink, babe? and didn't offer me a cup? :mad2: )...
5. We never lost against Lituania.
You had said before:
u should know, but if u don't I'll tell u,that those match agains Lit and France were in sept
So you didn't lose to Lituania, OK, maybe it was a tie (which is the same as a defeat); or you lost (or tied) to Liechenstein, which is even worse...
6. tell me where I wrote in that post that Europe is better
You said:
Brazil is the best nt in the world...it doesn't hurt me...my team is the best in europe.
You're obviously implying that if "your team is the best in Europe", my affirmation won't "hurt you" because in your opinion "being the best in Europe" is "better than being the best in the world"
Besides this thread is full of ridiculous affirmations you made that go like that:
the european leagues are better coz they are full of EUROPEANS and they hav EUROPEANS coach.
7. no honey,it's not ONLY 4 the money...and u know that!!
It hurts doesn't it? You wanted it to be real love, right?...
Maybe if you tell me though it's because of your beautiful eyes, then I will particularly believe! ...
We South Americans used to be so sentimental!...
Not anymore though!...
8. not too solid?f*** off
Was gonna post the picture of that pretty pretty pretty mad Italian girl again (don't want to abuse though); but, in that aspect, Laury, Brazilian women are a distant second to you!...

Well,
Putting US in front of Italy, obviously, more than an injustice, is probably some cheap and localized political provocation...
Rankings in other aspects though are fair: they have to consider not only present facts (Italy 2006 World Champion, what they evidently didn't consider), but also recently historical ones (in the last 4 WCs, Brazil was World Champion in 2, 2nd in 1, and 5th in another 1 [2006]); of course that weighs for Brazil still to be 1st in the ranking (in my biased opinion, with justice)...
But putting US in front of Italy can only be a stupid provocation...
Of course I know (don't i "know" everything? :ronaldo: ) that Italy x Germany in 1970 was probably the best game in History (if not, one of the best...)
But let's not fight!...I like you truly & think you're a genuine person.
Besides having excellent humour, you also display considerable knowledge of football, and it's great posting to people like that!...
Really great when you (I deserve) ironically say that "honey" to me!...
P.S.: Anyway (oh my God, it's going to start all over again! ), this year you did lose (or tied) against a country starting with "Lit", 'cuz you said:

Only Brazil and Argentina are major powerhouses from South America while the rest are just decent.
"Only"?...
"Only" the 2 together have 7 WCs (almost as much as the whole Europe, 9 titles)...
Besides, it's totally unjust to "forget" Uruguay (the "rest"?!), that conquered 2 hardly fought WC titles & 2 Olympic Golds, and brilliantly helped us to "tie" that match...
Remember, if Europe has 4 highly ranked WC nations, we, with at least half the number of nations, have 3 (with an expressive detail: all of them with at least 2 titles, so no one can say: "they won because were lucky")!...
On our turn - because we know football - we would never commit the injustice of tagging as merely "decent" fabulous Hungary (in the 50's) and Holland (in the 70's), which (along with the glorious Uruguayan "Celeste" of the 30's and 50's), without even winning a title, taught us all how to play football...
If Europe were "only" made out of "decent" Hungary and Holland, that fact by itself would already represent a serious threat to "the kings of football" (us, of course!) :ronaldo: ...

Only Brazil and Argentina
Remember, also, that, in Europe, if there are more countries, the average population of a nation is way lower than in SA (there is a great number of countries with 7, 5, 3, or even less millions of inhabitants): on the other hand, try to divide the population of Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Venezuela into independant countries, and see if SA wouldn't have a considerably bigger number of countries disputing with you the WCs!...
Only in Brazil - 200 million inhabitants - we would have at least 4 very strong "nations" in football (Rio, São Paulo, Minas and Rio Grande do Sul states, plus the considerable strength of the North and Northeastern regions that could easily form a 5th "stronghold")...
Easely, about 5 to 7 European "powerhouses" would have to give in their captive "seats" to SA countries in the World Cup! ...
We could easily have as much quality as quantitity in the WCs, if we had the same stratification of countries you have in Europe!...
So - way more than you imagine - you have to take seriously our quality as opposed to your quantity...

Yeah?
But we don't have teams that won a WC only once like England or France just because they comfortably played...at home!
The minimum SA countries won was 2 WCs...
Even Uruguay is better ranked than your glorious France & England, with 2 WCs  ...
In the same way, Italy and Germany have that number of WCs (7) just cuz they won at least once at home (as far as all the Europeans, 4 WCs won at home), which is way easier, let's convene...
In the total just Italy and Germany played 4 WCs at home (!!!)...
Practically 1/4 of all WCs!...
European nations, of a total of 18 WCs, played 6 at home, 1/3 of all WCs!...
As if it were little, 11 WCs were held at the European continent, 60% of the whole competition!...
In South America, only 2 times (Uruguay 30, Argentina 78) WCs were played and won at home - & only 3 in the total were played in the SA continent...
As if it were little, in the specific cases of Italy (38), England (66), when you played at home, you scandalously ROBBED your guests (don't have shrieks, Laury, the whole soccer community knows that)...
As you see all the odds, advantages and briberies were in your favour, and you still say you're "tying" us?...
Even with that unsurmountable 5 x 4 advantadge to us?!...
In the last 50 years Europeans have been swimming, swimming, and invariably die at beach - and that's what will keep happening...
As you see, that "7 x 7" (or "9 x 9") tie with us is more of a mirage...
An European dream :ronaldo: ...
the european best NT
I know you're referring to number of titles, but the best European NTs were not Italy and Germany, and never won any WC...
Their names: Hungary and Holland (& they played a lot - but a lot - more football than you)...
They undoubtedly are the true representatives of the most sophisticated European school of any epoch: compared to which (Puskas, Cruyjff etc), Italians and Germans* look more like hillybilly jerks...

It's Alexandre Pato, 17 year-old Internacional de Porto Alegre new number 10, who is being prepared as a bad surprise to Ronaldinho's Barça in the 2006 WCC to start this December 13 in Japan...

Internacional set to unleash 'the Duck' in Japan
(REUTERS) 29 Nov 2006
South American champions Internacional have unearthed a 17-year-old prodigy they believe may steal the show in next month's FIFA Club World Cup. The player popularly known as Pato Alexandre - 'Alex the Duck' - made an extraordinary professional debut last Sunday away to Palmeiras which has already got the critics talking about another great Brazilian discovery.
The quietly-spoken teenager scored after 94 seconds with his first touch of the ball, set up two more - including one with a disconcerting dribble - and headed against the post in a hectic 57 minutes before being substituted with his team 4-0 ahead.
They went on to win 4-1.
"We had believed something like this would happen, he's a sight for sore eyes," said Internacional president Fernando Carvalho.
"But I didn't expect such a mature and natural approach. That's why he had such a great game."
Internacional, who won the South American Libertadores Cup in August, are seen as Barcelona's main challengers at next month's tournament in Japan.
The emergence of Alexandre - full name Alexandre Rodrigues da Silva - is a major boost for Inter, who will be trying to keep the trophy in South America after Sao Paulo's win last year.
The Porto Alegre-based club have seen several key players, including defender Bolivar, midfielder Tinga and striker Rafael Sobis, depart for Europe since their Libertadores win.
On leaving the club in August, Sobis said he believed Alexandre would be his natural successor.
With European clubs snapping up promising South American teenagers at an ever-younger age, Inter have taken extreme caution in nurturing Alexandre who hails from the town of Pato Branco - White Duck - in the southern state of Parana.
Alexandre was only allowed to make his debut after being given a new contract with a fivefold wage increase that keeps him at the club until the end of 2009.
Inter have also inserted a $20 million penalty clause for any foreign club which wants to sign him before then.
"Our caution with the Duck has been justified," said Carvalho. "He's an exceptional forward, phenomenal."
The club are also confident that instant success will not go to the player's head.
"He's an exceptional player and he's got his head in the right place," said team captain Fernandao.

1. I wouldn't be that radical: they produced players individually way better than the Italians (UK: Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore, George Best etc; France: Juste Fontaine, Raymond Kopa, Michel Platini, Zinedine Zidane etc)...
2. Never said that: Italy is the 2nd greatest winner of WCs - how could I possibly declare such a thing (putting words in my mouth)...
3. You just save there Meazza, S. Mazzola, Gigi Riva, Rivera Maldini, Baresi, Baggio, and that's it...
The rest are "hillybillies"...
As compared to Puskas or Cruyjff, of course: in the average, they were no more than good players......
Don't worry, though, they are in good company...
Ronaldo "Fenômeno", Rivaldo, Dunga, Cerezzo, Leonardo, Paulo Isidoro and several others who've even been world champions for Brazil, compared to those Dutch and Hungarian "animals", were as "hillybillies" as the Italians you mentioned...
4. Never said that either: you know quite a bit about football...
But patriotism let you enraged with what I said about Hungary and Holland as historically having more importance than your Italy - and that doesn't have anything to do with "not liking Italian players" nor is any novelty...
That's a fact, unanimously accepted by all experts...
Patriotism (and that happens to me too sometimes) which produces a sort of "temporary blindness" towards the eternal truths of football...

1. You right: Best was Irish and not Brittish, and I'm wrong (not that much wrong though, since he was rooted in the English school, as Wales, Eire & Scotland's players also were)...
Point for you, though! :mad2: ...
2. Italy might not be the main European school, but I have to concede is a WC titles devourer: satisfied? ...
Point for us! ;) ...
3. Fachetti was a great player, but was very, very far from being a genius. "Geniuses" were: Moreno, Meazza, Leônidas, Zizinho, Puskas, F. Walter, Pelé, Beckenbauer, Platini, Baresi, Maradona, Cruyjff etc...
Cafu & RC needing Fachetti? For what? They had, at home, to mirror themselves, REAL geniuses, like Djalma Santos, Nilton Santos, Carlos Alberto, Marinho Chagas, Junior, Leandro, all of them much better than him!...
Point for me! :ronaldo: ...

Ok, cutie!...
This was October 2005 (had just left adolescence by then)...
If the thread kept eternally discussing that very 1st question, it simply wouldn't arrive to the 2nd page (exaggerating a bit), and now, thanks to relevant diggressions (specially my pics  ), we are arriving to 50.
The initial theme just revealed itself to be too limited, and the general theme "Europe vs S. America" proved itself to offer much wider and interesting questions...
Besides, "being hard or not to qualify" for WCs had relevance up to June 2006, when the WC started; so, after that, other themes naturally started being discussed...
OK, if you want to close the thread, it' all right with me:...let's have a beer by the beach! ...

You're desperate, Laura, because Barça's day is arriving, and many people in SFN (fangs dripping with sadistic pleasure) are already buying the popcorn to witness the slaughter on TV*!...

the wcc must be respected, at least said one of the best player in the world (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6171655.stm)
one more reason i d like to point out ,as i ve done before, is that its the ultimate slap in the face of those so fond of their leagues that feel so much better saying how SA leagues and clubs are shit and how EU forge the best players, but when the time comes, its proven that the best sides in SA could play in any league in EU to win it, and most important, without any player with the so called EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE OR PLAYERS FORGED IN THE GLORIOUS FIELDS OF EU and ITS GREAT LESSONS
if barcelona and internacional reach finals, the field is gonna be packed of SAns. EU must not care about it.
the point is, SAns dont care if other ppl dont care about WCC, specially if its ppl from non traditional nations that happened to learn football in EU cable channels and can only find ppl to chat about it on internet, this ppl have no idea how little footaball they know.
PS. so now you are modding here, kk?nice

I think that I know a lot of things about football coz I live in the country where this sport is the most important...I'm Italian..
and I'll tell u the same things that I said thousand of times.
I used to love the Intercontinental Cup coz I think that one of the best things in the world is a match between the CL winner and the Copa Libertadores winner. But why in the WCC there are teams of nations that don't know NOTHING of what football really is and what this sport means 4 us?

Sure there is politics etc, as in anywhere.
ICC and WCC, though, it's all basically the same!...
Doesn't change the confrontation essentially - just the format.
The goal is the same - the World Cup.
What matters is that the 2 best clubs of the world will be facing each other in the final...
And what decides who is the best is not their bank account, but what happens inside the four lines...

I'm even imagining a dialogue between two CL fans:
CL fan 1: - "Will you please change the channel to the Harfnarfjordür x Crvena Zvezda game? :mad2: "...
CL fan 2: - "You're kidding, I'm watching Birkirkara vs
Dudelange! " ...
CL fan 1: - "All right, but tonight I want to watch Mladá Boleslav x MyPa" "...
CL fan 2: - "You're nuts, man: and you are gonna miss Valerenga x Shaktior? :smoking:"...
