This is a post in response to one by "Redman-1922".

Moderator, I have no intention of insulting Bosnian people or fans, nor Redman himself. I just wanted to clear up the situation as someone who knows about this kind of thing, since Redman himself said that he was posting for Serbian people to read.

As someone who has studied law and political science I am very qualified to talk about this.

The reason why the old SFR Yugoslavia did not go to Euro 1992, and were not allowed to compete in qualifying for WC 1994 and Euro 1996, is NOT because other republics were separating, but because the war resulted in political and sports sanctions against several republics, including the remaining federation of Serbia and Montenegro for quite some time. However, the sports sanctions were lifted and SCG is now allowed to compete in all sporting events.

As a student of law, I can tell you that IF Montenegro separates (which would take place in the spring), it will take several months for the separation to take legal effect (as happened in Czechoslovakia, where it took something like five to seven months), which means that when the World Cup rolls around , SCG will still technically be a country and will compete as SCG. However if Montenegro completely separates by the WC, there are two possibilities:

1. Serbia and Montenegro appear as a "unified team" like the USSR did at the Olympic Games in 1992 (this is the most likely scenario), OR...

2. Serbia, as the legal successor of the state of Serbia and Montenegro (which it is identified as in the constitutional charter of SCG) will participate in the World Cup on its own.

Since there are no sports sanctions on SCG, there will be no ban!

Thank you for your time.
