Chileno

These are the next key southamerican games for the 5th spot against Australia. The teams still fighting for it are, in order of chances...Uruguay, Chile and Colombia.

Chile vs Ecuador.

Chile will play a qualified Ecuador at home. A Chilean victory is very likely.

Paraguay vs Colombia.

Paraguay is already qualified, but still, they play at home. Colombia will not have it easy. Chances are they will draw, however, they may still give a surprise like las qualies and win. (Last qualies they beat Paraguay 0-3... I think.)

Uruguay vs Argentina.

Uruguay is 1 point above the rest, they depend on themselves only. They have the hardest oponent on paper, but the Argies are qualified AND they have secured a first place in the southamerican qualies. Argies will probably go and have a training game with Uruguay like they did with Paraguay when they lost. Conclusion, the local Uruguay team wins and takes the fifth spot.

Unless a miracle happens and Argentina decides to play seriously, Uruguay will be the rival of Australia.

Uruguay have great strikers, decent midfield and strong defense (not as strong as before, but strong enough). They also have a lot of guts and will never drop a game. Their main weakness is that they often confuse fighting spirit and guts with outright football violence, thus they are very used to see these... :mad2: :red-card:

Good luck Aussies.

I think it'll be Chile. Uruguay might end up drawing with Argentina.

Shit. I think your are right Chileno, to beat Uraguay away is very difficult. Did Brazil even manage to do it? I dont think they did...

Therfore, even without Argentina's main stars such as Ricks (Riquelme, all hail Riquelme) then they would have a seriously tough tussle on their hands. Uruguay will give everything knowing them, they will be very physical, biting and scratching and kicking and so I think Chileo is spot-on, our great South American spy - Thanks for giving us luck, we're gonna need it.

(by the way where are u from?)

I hope to God its not Uruguay...they have huge attacking talent....Forlan (european golden shoe winner) Zalayeta (Juventus player, doesnt play much but hes been valued very highly), Chevanton (monaco player, did great in Italy before moving there) Recoba (Inter) then their midfield with Walter Pizzarro(Inter) whos an excellent play maker.

Geez Uruguay would be a tough ask for us. An attack that could crumble our defenses. Signs are bad too because Argentina has already qualified so their game with Uruguay wont matter too much to them. Lets hope they hold them to a draw at the most. Dont forget Chile and Colombia though.

This is huge news just coming in for todays qualifiers in South America. As I am typing this at 12.48am (the games gets underway in about 10 hours) the Sydney Morning Herald reports that URUGUAY may well indeed play a first-ranked ARGENTINIAN side including stars Hernan Crespo and Juan Roman Riquelme who were thought to be originally rested from the match.

Moreover, the article explains that Paraguay and Equador may well both be sending depleted or "second-string" teams to that of Colombia and Chilie and have already told a few players to go back to their repsective clubs in Germany etc.

For a full look at what is just happening, go here:

SO it seems the chances of playing Uruguay have further lengthened as the prospect of either playing Chile or Colombia now seem the more realistic of the two. We will find out in under 10 hours I guess.... :worried:

Thank god for the Argentines :D. So it looks as though because of the animosity between the countries has persuaded Pekerman to go with a full strength squad. :whoo: Sounds good to me :)
