Have you asked yourselves, how many mexicans are out there playing pro-football?, well here's a list I made considering facts provided by different places over the internet. It covers from our very own Rafael Marquez to unknown players in weird countries, lots of them have dual citizenships and also lots of them are mexican-american players, well enjoy.

Does anyone know what happend to Santiago Fernandez? He was a Mexican player from Club America that went to Barcelona B but I haven't heard anything about him in months

Well his case was kind of sad, he was hired by Barça, but not so long after the coach lost confidence on him and even said that hiring him was one of the biggest mistakes the team made in the preseason.

This year he wasn't in the plans of the club anymore, but he's still under contract for the next couple years, still Barça freezed him by not lending him or selling him.

Santiago spoke with LaPuente to see if America could get him on a loan or if they could purchase him. But LaPuente found out that the price to release Santiago was a crazy sum of money (like 50 million euros), because the recession clauses for FC Barcelona players are really high, and all guys under a pro contract with them have such clauses to prevent cases were other clubs stealed players from them.

LaPuente apologized to Santiago because he was unable to do anything. Santiago decided to come back to Mexico but he can't play for a while with a pro club, so he decided to go back to school and finish his education, you can say that he's temporarly retired, and if things don't work out in a year or two then he could be retired for good.

From all the guys in the list I wanna turn your attention to Javier Iturriaga Arrillaga, the Basque Mexican playing in the second team of the Athletic de Bilbao in Spain, this summer he trained with the first team and it looks that any day from now he could break into the first team. Right now he's injured and therefore not playing, he's 21 or 22 years old and unlike Nery Castillo, Iturriaga grew up in Mexico.

We could find ourselves with another player in Spanish first division.

Horrible what happend to Santiago Fernandez. He was such a good player. He is young, tall, strong, and fast. He was like a younger Aaron Padilla, he was always in the right spot.

He barley turned 21, I remember he was like 18 when I first saw him play with America. He is still young and hopefully he can play again.
