"Juve boss Fabio Capello has publicly criticised Zlatan Ibrahimovic for being "too egotistical" during the bianconeri's 3-0 Champions League win over Rapid on Tuesday. The Swede ignored team-mates on several occasions as he sought to get himself on the scoresheet, leaving Capello furious."We could've wrapped the game up in the first half, but were too complacent and this isn't the way we wanted to play," said Capello, whose side held a precarious one-goal through David Trezeguet's first-half strike before Adrian Mutu added a second eight minutes from time.
"It was tense until Adrian Mutu's goal and we were thankful for Christian Abbiati's saves," he added.
Ibrahimovic did find the net as he added a flattering third six minutes from time with a miscued volley, but that did not spare the gifted former Ajax man Capello's wrath.
"Ibrahimovic made two mistakes tonight and we will discuss it later, as he was too egotistical," said the former Milan coach.
"I really didn't appreciate when we went on the counter-attack with three against two and Alessandro Del Piero was unmarked, but instead of passing it he tried to hold on and eventually lost the ball."
TREZ BACKS ZLATAN
But David Trezeguet defended his strike partner saying he understood Ibrahimovic's desire to break his Champions League duck since making the move to Turin from Amsterdam in 2004."If a striker doesn't score then he has just one thought in his head and that is that he wants to find a goal," said the France forward. "He therefore sees things a little differently."
Trezeguet set his team on the path to victory with a typically clinically-taken strike after 26 minutes, before his fellow forwards also found their way past Rapid keeper Helge Payer late on - all of which bodes well for the Italian champions, claims Trezegol.
"We didn't play that great at the start of the game as we were a little tired from the Parma trip," he said. "But Mutu and Zlatan managed to get their first goals in Europe for us and this is very important for the rest of the season."
