Comments: While I agree to a point that Liverpool were not the best team, they did knock out Juve, Chelsea in home and away, and came back from 3-0 to Milan (despite being outplayed by all three teams) - although the first two goals vs Milan were a result of a defensive breakdown by Cafu, and piss poor keeping by Dida who regularly makes saves of those nature week in and week out in Serie A, but they do deserve to be champions for gutting it out with a squad that many on paper would say did not deserve to be there.

So is Mourinho just a sore loser and crying sour grapes contending that Liverpool's goal vs Chelseas was not legit? Comments from Liverpool fans?

The article:

LIVERPOOL, England, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Liverpool were not the best team in
Europe last season despite winning the Champions League, Chelsea manager
Jose Mourinho said on Tuesday. Mourinho, furthermore, is still disputing the
validity of Luis Garcia's controversial winner that sent Liverpool into the
final at Chelsea's expense.

"Liverpool weren't the best team in Europe," Mourinho said on the eve of
Chelsea's Group G match against Liverpool at Anfield in this season's
Champions League. "We weren't the best team when I won the competition with
Porto two seasons ago," he told reporters.

"Last season, the team that played the most beautiful football was
Barcelona. They played fantastic football. "Liverpool also deserve credit
for what they did in the final, but they beat Chelsea without scoring a
goal." Liverpool came from three goals down to draw 3-3 with AC Milan after
extra time in the May final in Istanbul and win the trophy on penalties.

They had won their semi-final tie against Chelsea 1-0 on aggregate, after a
0-0 draw in London, thanks to Garcia's goal in the second leg at Anfield
that Mourinho insists was cleared by William Gallas before it crossed the
line.

"I have to accept they beat us, but they didn't score a goal," he said.
Mourinho dismissed the notion that Chelsea are looking for revenge for their
semi-final defeat."We beat them twice in the league, once in the Carling
(League) Cup and they beat us once so it's 3-1 to us," he said.

Mourinho will not be panicked if Chelsea lose on Wednesday. It would be
their first defeat of the season after victories in seven Premier League
matches and one in the Champions League.

"We want to get nine points as that should be enough to get us through the
group, and we have three," he said. "So if we go home with six points, it's
fantastic. If we go home with four points, it's not bad; and if we go home
with three, it's not a disaster.

"Last year we won the group and had to play Barcelona, so winning the group
is not always important."

please liverpool are a joke i cant believe that they won the champions league. i must admit that i am a milan fan but come on the final should have beeen chelsea vs milan now thats what i call a final while 6 goals may look appealin i call that sloppy soccer. chelsea and milan by far were the best teams and carried that form in other cocmpetitions to despite milan only comin second in the Seria A it was far better than liverpools pittuful 5th losing many a league games, come on does the best side in europe lose to mideocre clubs??? an that fact that they were aloud to defend their crown disgusted me even more there should be no exception for them they did not qualify fairly so they should not get special consideration. and to strengthen my argument more look at them this campaign in the premier league they are an odd 20 points of the trail of chelsea already after only 10 games thats a disgrace. they have got some qualiry players mind u but unfortunately benitez is a crap coach and needs to work on his defence drastically if he wants his team to be in any shape or form regarded as the best team in europe :mad2:

Have you watched us? Defence? We have had in total 10, yes TEN clean sheets so far this season. We have been accused of being boring and too defensive so i don't see how that stands up.

Liverpool's "pitiful" fifth was mainly due to the fact that our injury list was about the same amount as the population of Monaco and we had to put out weakened sides in the premiership and concentrate on Europe. look at how injuries have affected Arsenal.

Sloppy soccer is not what i would call it, an excellent first half from milan, but also slightly lucky in that it could have been 1-1 at the break, but the ref didnt give a clear penalty and directly from that Milan scored. if any team was sloppy it was Milan, they let in 3 goals in 6 minutes ffs.

And to say that Chelsea and Milan were the best sides in the competition is false. Milan were extremely lucky to get past PSV and probably shouldn't have been in the final. On the other hand Liverpool went through the knockout stages unbeaten and only let Chelsea have one shot on target against us in 186 minutes over the semi final.

To answer soccerates, we clearly aren't the best team in Europe, and we have never claimed that. We were the best team in that particular competiton, that is undoubtable imo. otherwise we would not have got through. it isn't like we had an easy route either.

As for Mourinho, he is an idiot imo. A very good manager but an idiot otherwise. That is pure sour grapes. Take into account this weekend's example. Chelsea drew 1-1 with Everton, but Mourinho has claimed that chelsea won because Drogba had a goal disallowed which he disagreed with. Even though John Terry handled the ball in his area and Everton should have had a penalty, which would have won the game for them, and ignoring that the offside decision was correct. If he believes that then his whole career is a sham, because before Porto put Man u out the year they won the CL, just before the goal that put them thorugh Paul Scholes had a clearly good goal diallowed. If that had been allowed then Porto would have gone out, Mourinho wouldn't be at chelsea, Sven Goran Eriksson might, and chelsea would be nowhere and all these arguments would be void.

Basically, Mourinho is a very bad loser. Or even a very bad drawer.

Actually no.

Liverpool deserv it and they got it, simply because they worked as a team and didn't let their midns get to them being 3-0 down, in that situation any other club I can guarantee wouldn't have come back.

Liverpool were a very unpredictable but solid team.

They were NOT best club on paper, but that's not what the game is all about is it. ;)

And Jose also said that they won last weekend......

He needs to learn that when you don't score as many goals as the other team, you lose.

yeah funny when decisions go against him they are WRONG and when they are for him they are RIGHT! (ie 2 penalties not given vLiverpool in CL this season)

I think that liverpool were lucky in the semi final last year against chelsea.........i dont think it was a goal.......but a little bit of luck is good every now and then.

Liverpools second half against AC in the champions league final was brilliant.
No one has any back up to deny it.

The double save that dudek made in the closing minutes of extra time was fantastic aswell as the save to win on penalties.

Liverpool deserved to win that game, but I agree, Liverpool were not the best last season..............any unbiased mutual spectator would agree.

Chelsea was not the best last season, plenty of things went their way just because "they were league champions."

Ya, I hear you!

It made me laugh when Mourinho pulled the "ref" card in the first leg of the Barca game, and has used it since to try and manipulate the calls in his favor.

like in the last CL clash with liverpool,
he called the REF ''One of the 'BEST'" now thats a huge superlative and then two clear penalties are not given, makes you wonder, money hmmmm... ? Bride? Pay-out? on the Chelski Pay Roll?

like u would expect mourinho to say that of a team that knocked them out last season
when porto with mourinho won the UCL nobody said theey didnt deserve it just that all the big guns fell early & the semis was anybody's bet

no team can win UCL by coasting thru u may win a lucky game or two but it takes greats champs to come back from 3-0 down
even greater the man U expliots at no camp vs bayern munich

Well i think that this mour guy is not so special after all...
he should be learning more on how to react when being on the losing side.
Tactic specialist? hehehe , what happened to the Mu game? got tricked by MU with the formations before the game? hahaha... you've got alot to learn son.
I think that he's trying to lure all the attentions to him so that the media will not affect his team players but sometimes he over does it. remember about the arsene feud? "i will apologize if he does...blah...blah.."? what kind of a childish act is that? entirely not a gentleman at all !!!

good lord, am not sure how long more the premiership has to withstand this "mour" attitude!
