your German right? I got about 15 german channels and not one of them had the game on yesterday. I'm amazed...

firstly congratulations on your victory

secondly, no one cares about basketball in europe- leaving greece, serbia , russia and a few other nations. We came to the finals when we didnt care about the game. think what would have happened if it was a popular game

your dead wrong. MANY countries in europe cares about basketball. Plus it is the second most popular sport, and the most played sport in the world. so don't be stupid bc you didn't win it.

as I said earlier, I dont care about it. If we won or came second.

I know for sure, it is not the second most popular game in Germany, France or any of the western european nations. It maybe the tenth most popular game, in these nations. Tennis, track events, swimming football, skiing, hammer throw, fencing , f1 are all much more popular than basketball. In Spain bullfighting is more popular.

Maybe second most popular sport in the world ( that too I am not sure), but this was an European cup, not world cup.

If there was a hammer throw eurpean championship, in which i think Greece has no intrest, would you care if your team won/ came runner up in a major competition?

I will bet my balls that basketball is more popular worldwide than hammerthrowing!

yea I know formula1 is very popular in germany (Juan Pablo ;))

see it depends where. go to spain, and bull fighting will be more popular than basketball. go to austria, and skiing will be more popular there. go to england, crikaet will be more popular there.

Can you list the countries of europe where basketball is in the top 3 popular games?

..and of course if you were better at basket it Would be more popular. German clubs in euroleague is nothing compared to Greek.
But good for you that you don't care

more than 300 million people play basketball, only in china. Do the math
http://english.people.com.cn/200505/16/eng20050516_185295.html

ok, thats what I said.. not popular in Europe... China, arab countries, USA etc basket ball is popular, but not in Europe.

some how I find 300 million a very exaggerated figure. There might be 1.3 billion people in China, of which if even 50% are between 30- 12, it means 650 million people. From this we can say half are women and half are men- so 325 million males between 12-30 in China. From 325 Million males, do 300 Million play basket ball? (assuming most chinese who play basketball are male). This looks very unlikey to me.
I find this propoganda by companies wanting to sell basketball equipment in the developing world

In all Europe???

Can you tell me how many people actually knew about this euro championships?? Compare that with the viewership of F1 races or European track meets.

Ask any normal european to name 5 f1 drivers and he will be able to name them to you, but ask him to name 5 european basketball stars and he wouldnt not be able to do so.

Basketball is popular in many European countries, maybe most, but not all. Bull fighting may be the national sport of Spain but more people play basketball than become matadors. Basketball is huge in Spain and in the tournament finalists, Russia, Croatia, Lithuania, Slovenia, France, Italy, etc. Yes, second to football, a long way second in most.
England has rugby even b4 cricket and Germany I suppose has regional sports that are more popular, but collectively there must be many people playin' there.

I think I'm a bit jealous of Greeks' Euro Championship but only in the Euro 2004.
Few years before Greece's championship Finland beated Greece 5-1 in Rehhagel first match. From that Greece team developed to Europe's best and we are still far from even reaching tournaments.

The popularity of a sport in different countries of course depend on success. I don't care much about basketball but sure it is a big sport. Also in Europe.

Still, they hold the title and no one can take that from them.

not One of the hardest groups. The hardest. denmark didn't make it to WC 94. France played better?? did you watch world cup 02? how many points did they collect? how many goals did they score? I think you mixed the euro cup with the world cup
but if u remember
Denmark didnt make it to Euro92 they went in for Serbians.
i said france from 98 to 2000 and by the way they didnt score because zidane didnt play (played half of one game thats it) well he is only the best playmaker in the world! I dont remember how many points they got maybe 1.
