no i think he just clapped so he could get the ref's attention because he was walking aaway....i couldnt stop laughing when i saw that..i probably would've done the same thingg...and i dont think he deserved that yellow card in the first place..villareal did worse and never got booked

actually that tackle was a yellow card offence, Rooney even patted teh guy he tackled on the back saying sorry, then when he realised he got a yellow card, he got angry and clapped infront of the ref's face which is a red card no questions asked.

Rooney does have a big motuh, but he also has big talent, it's just sad to see that he can't control his immaturity.

and gressa, prove what you just said against Villarreal.

are u serious that wasnt a yellow card, lol dude that was a serious takle and partically almost from behind, he did deserve the first yellow but it is his monkey man business that got him the red

The first yellow was relatively deserved. It didn't seem quite like an "Oh man he has to get carded for that" type challenge, but it also didn't seem like an overly harsh card. Ferguson thought it was undeserved, but he probably would. But I haven't read too much criticsm of the initial card, except for from United supporters.

The second card was automatic. He wasn't clapping to get the refs attention - he was doing it to "applaud" the ref. To show him up. Rooney started to walk away, and reached back to do it. You can tell by the look on his face that he is disgusted and pissed off, not wanting to debate with the ref. And no ref is going to take being shown up by a player like that. It was simply a dumb move by Rooney, and no even Sir Alex defended him over it.

I think Rooney is just immature. I love to watch him play, and I think he's going to be a special player. But he needs to learn to control his emotions and his temper. Remember, though, he is only 19, and how many people aren't a bit petulent and immature at 19? Its only truly a problem because it comes through at bad moments and it hurts his club, like today.

So you're justifying Rooney clapping in the face of the red by the fact that he felt that he shouldn't have been carded? Umm... no... sorry, that doesn't work. Plenty of players get booked for questionable fouls, but that doesn't give them justification to do something to show up the ref. You simply cannot do that, and players know that. If a player feels he has been unjustly booked, discuss it with the ref like a professional rather than reacting stupidly. I like Rooney, but he does need to control his temper on the pitch.

Rooney has a huge mouth and no talent what so ever. All his passes are messed up. The only and I mean only skill he has is a good shot, but that is IT. He is a hyped English kid. England needed to hype a youngster so that they would not stay behind to the greats and they picked Rooney. They tried with Smith, Defoe and many more but all failed, and now Rooney too, FAILED.

Just like Cantona and Gasgoigne right? Some people do not mature. They are just hot headed.

I can't agree with the thought that Rooney has no talent. Not at all. I don't think he has completely come into his own just yet, but the flashes he shows are very impressive indeed. He can make some magnificant shots. But more than that, he isn't bad on the ball and he is damned frightening for a defender when he runs at them. He still isn't 20 and he will still develop further.

Wouldn’t you be scared if you had an ogre running at you with no clue of what he was doing? Rooney only skills are a powerful shot. Period.

Rooney's a forward like Vieri ( when he was good), who uses his body and physique to his advantage. Rooney has a good shot, good awareness of the position of the field, and good pace too. Besides he is not scared to take on players. And , Rooney is ver very good at volleys. Few players, I've seen can get their volleys right almost everytime without fail.

The fact that he is hot headed, like Gascoigne or Cantona, cannot downplay the talent he has.

Before you compare Vieri to Rooney, wait for the ogre to score 24 goals in 24 matches and winning la Liga, and score over 100 goals in serie A. Vieri in his prime was and still is better than Rooney.

Rooney is a relative new player, he will get those goals sooner or later... he also doesnt play in la liga. So, how can you count that as a point of comparison. Diego Forlan was top scorer in Spain, but didnt impress much at Man Utd. Maybe it indicates scoring is easier in La Liga than it is in EPL. Its too earlt to say, but he still shares the physical game of Vieri.

You're making an invalid comparison when you ask that. Viera was about 24 years old when he hit 24 in 24 for Atletico. Rooney is 19 now. Quite a difference. What was Vieri doing at 19? Scoring 2 goals in 18 matches for Pisa. So if you to make a full comparison, Vieri and Rooney have a somewhat similiar style of play, but Rooney is much more developed and accomplished at this point in his career.

I understand Rooney is 19, but if so, why is Eng making him better than Rush? If he is young, then do not hype him just because your football is not what it once was as far as youth.

Yes, he compared them in terms of style, which is relatively valid. But you compared them in terms of accomplishments.

Is Rooney overhyped? To an extent, yes. But he certainly very talented. And you can understand why - how often does any nation get a player of Rooney's age who can make an impact with both club and country? Look at Robinho - relatively similar levels of potential, and a great deal of hype. Even Lukas Podolski in Germany gets some hype, though German media is quite different from the English.

Good point you raise there. Rooney is right now, a better player than Podolski. Both are different though. Rooney depends more on muscling his way through the defence, Podolski more on deft passing. Rooney is like a Vieri/Shearer, where as Podolski is like a Klinsmann/Raul. Both are awfully fast though, and not scared to take on players.

On the matter of hype, its Rooney who gets more of it, mostly becuase he is in a big club, where as Podolski is in a club which has just been promoted from 2 Bundesliga. Podolski is also no big mouth or hot head.
