.... canada's soccer might be weak but the country is the bestCanadian soccer isn't as weak as some visiting here seem to think. In March, we played a friendly in Portugal using our new attacking style instead of the old boot and chase bunker. There's going to be growing pains and we lost that game 4-1 with a discipline problem we've had of late giving up early and late goals.
That scoreline definately flattered Portugal even according to the Portugal fans at Big Soccer who were quite complementary about the Canadian team.
A recent 2-1 loss to Spain at Santander with an even more attacking formation had better results. We had chances late in the game to tie and Spain was lucky not to have at least been tied.
Canada is playing tough opponents, away from home, with a controlled style of play. This is already paying dividends by the improved performance with every new game. Wins against the big teams will come eventually.
Luxembourg up next. These are the tough games to play against supposedly "lesser" opponents. It will be all European based players but probably lots of newcomers to the CMNT.
Portugal 4 Canada 1
7' POR Manuel Fernandes
11' POR Pedro Pauleta
81' POR Helder Postiga
84' CAN Kevin McKenna
90'+ POR Nuno Gomes

First I'm not visiting but I agree Canadian soccer isn't as weak as a lot of people say but we just never win. Its so frustrated watching Canada play. We're good but bad stuff always happens to us. Bad refs or missed chances. I think Canada has a lot of potential.

The whole purpose of this forum is to spread the gospel of Canadian soccer. Quite a few people come here and crap on soccer in Canada and don't know anything about it. Glad to know you aren't one of them.
I know what you mean about the bad stuff. When Holger first started we had quite a lengthy undefeated streak and then everything seemed to go downhill. Things have seemed to turn around recently. We did beat NI (the same guys who beat England) and won that one ugly. We have played quite positively since then.
Welcome to the forum.

Joe....no wanting to get into a heated debate on this touchy subject by why don't you think Canadian soccer is not as weak as people say it is? Those friendlies agianst Portugal etc were just that, the Portugal team might have just had a run about. We Can't even compete agianst the teams we should be beating in concacaf. Costa rica, Guatemala, Hoinduras etc. we are light years behind the yanks and mexicans so just trying for third in concacaf is where we should be aiming. What are we going to learn from playing Luxembiurg? After seeing them in WCQ they are as bad as us. If we use the full under 20 squad for experience i can see positives right there but other wise why didn't the csa line up games against the teams in Concacaf that we are trying to be better than.
