View Full Version : Arsenal without Henry?

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident that top striker Thierry Henry will sign a new contract with the Gunners by the end of this year.

Henry, 28, who is two goals away from becoming the Gunners' all-time record goalscorer (he is currently on 184, one fewer than Ian Wright's record haul), has two years left to run on his current contract.

Wenger said: "I am not concerned about Thierry. He is in paradise here! We are not especially worried as we are sure about his commitment to the club.

"I don't think he'll go, but we'll do it soon, it's one of our priorities to sort it out by the end of this year."

Henry misses Saturday evening's game against Middlesbrough after picking up a calf injury during France's World Cup qualifier victory over Ireland last Wednesday, in which he scored the only goal.

Arsenal sold Vieira, and now that you guys are in a slump especially since last season and now a loss to Middlesborough, do you think Henry will sign another contract?

I think the Boro loss today shows just how valuable Henry is. Arsenal dominated posession and had plenty of chances, but just coudn't put one in until late. Both Boro goals came, relatively speaking, against the run of play. But that precise finishing just isn't there without Henry. The side just lacks a little spark. Will being counted on to provide that make him want to leave or stay? I sure hope stay, because he would be ridiculously difficult to replace.

As for the loss today, it sucked, but I'm not as worried as some might make out. It was a match that they should not have lost, but they did play well enough to win, relatively. And both Madrid and Inter lost matches today that they should have won. As for losing two of the first four matches this season, thats bad for Arsenal and it probably does put a dent into their title hopes, but neither were horrible losses. They just need to find that finishing and consistency.

Absolutely.
In fact, I'm glad we lost, it's a wake-up call to Wenger, to sing new players.

1. Lauren can play winger as well as fullback. He is somewhat slow but he makes up for it by positioning well and tackling well.
2. Cygan is a total liability every time he's out there.
3. Henry signing a contract will not depend on a slump last year (when Campbell played NINETEEN games) and ONE LOSS to Boro. He knows damned well that had the finishing been there, Arsenal win Saturday 4-2.
4. The problem is the other strikers. They must finish when they get a chance; read Ashley's comments. They are directed at Reyes.

Nah, Lauren can't play on the wing.
I do agree with you about Cygan, though.

I heard Henry will be out for about a month and probably miss Arsenal's next 6 games including some Champions League games.

that must suck for Arsenal.

Even if he does miss CL games it doesn't really mean anything becausse Arsenal havn't gone far with him and even when vieira was still with them.

Arsenal need alot of changes, the best change would be to make a stronger midfield so that Henry and Reyes can feel more comfortable.

I still can't figure out wy Arsenal sold Vieira! Seriously even if you had to sell him, Real Madrid made a much bigger offer than Juventus.

But anyways, right now Arsenal is hanging on to their lives with Henry, Ashley Cole, Bergkamp and even Hleb. They are close to the bottom of teh EPL table right now, even though it is too early a bad start like that will lower alot of confidence if change doesn't come. :blabla:

I can't see us beating anyone without Henry after the display against Boro.

I think this is near to a "Worst Case Scenario" for Arsenal, as Henry could now be out for six weeks. I think its a loss that the side can overcome, if they can only improve their finishing when they get chances. It will make for some tight, tough matches, but even if Henry is their best player, they still have plenty of quality.

Hey, was Cygan giving 100% when he headed the ball practically right on Maccarone's foot? You think Senderos will start against a Swiss side tomorrow in place of Cyan? That'd be yes.

And Lauren first played wing when he came to Highbury and when he played on Cameroon, so yes, he can play the wing.

As for signing new players, exactly when does everything think Wenger can do that - it has to wait until January.

Finally, the plan was always to get Baptista. When that failed, all bets were off. Arsenal sold Vieira as they were tired of his constant dalliance with other clubs every year. RM did NOT make a higher offer this year. They went after Baptista. They did make a higher offer last year, but as Arsenal had gone unbeaten the previous season, AW felt that there was nothing that needed fixing.

Season is still young, but I don't see Chelsea dropping a ton of points - hell, they haven't even given up a GOAL yet (including today's strangely close win in the CL against Anderlecht) and Arsenal have dropped SIX.

I dont think arsenal will win. They shouldn't have dropped viera and now no Henry.

yeah we really miss him, we could survive without vieira, but without henry our attack line cant score and dont have the flow.

All we need is a replacement for bergkamp as he is too old and we dont have any experienced attackers.

If Arsenal looses Henry they wouldn't be as good team as they are now!! :D
