Middlesbrough V Arsenal

I take Middlesbrough to hold out against Arsenal today at the Riverside.

Middlesbrough have not had the best of starts and unless they put some sort of decent run together soon the manager Mclaren will find that its not the England job that he will be considered for but his very own club job.

Middlesbrough are back to their irritating best, defeating Birmingham 3-0 at St Andrews but then losing 3-0 at home to Charlton, the same inconsistency that has undermined their performances before has returned, however something has gone in their favour and they may well be worth supporting against Arsenal.

Arsenal have lost Henry for this match, Arsenal are not a 1 man team but any team would seriously miss such a talent and it certainly boosts the opposition confidence and Middlesbrough will be very well prepared for this, as all teams are when they face one of the premiership big 3.

Arsenal are still going to be putting out a strong side and they have already shown this season that they will be thereabouts at the end but they do not have the same fluency that they were showing at this stage last season, they dispatched Fulham 4-1 but that result was flattering to Arsenal and the score line betray how close it really was.

Middlesbrough can win this match, its all a question of whether the manager can motivate his players enough, bring the best out of them, he is not the best manager around but he is a good one and a win today will do his reputation a world of good.

This match last season finished 1-0 to Arsenal and Middlesbrough will have to improve on that if they are going to have any hope of having a go at 4th place in the premiership, they lost at home to the big 3 last season and cannot afford to do that again.

I feel that Middlesbrough will be at their best for this match and expect it to be very close with a draw the most likely outcome.
