As another European season gets underway, Goal.com follows the fortunes of some of Asia’s biggest stars plying their trade ‘out west.’
Vasid Hashemian (Iran and Hannover 96)
'The Helicopter' (pictured) helped his new team to a keenly-fought 2-2 draw with Hertha Berlin. The former Bayern Munich striker didn't score but did enough to suggest that he will be a hit in Hannover.
Seol Ki-hyoen (South Korea and Wolverhampton Wanderers)
Seol was subbed out of the game against newly-relegated Southampton after 78 minutes but starred as Wolves dominated the goalless draw. The Guardian newspaper made him man of the match.
Ali Karimi (Iran and Bayern Munich)
The ‘Maradona of Asia’ came on as substitute for Sebastian Deisler in Bayern’s opening day victory over Borussia Monchengladbach and thrilled the 66,000 capacity crowd in the spanking new Allianz Arena with some of his trademark skills and passed.
Shunsuke Nakamura (Japan and Celtic)
Celtic boss Gordon Strachan told the club’s website after the Japanese midfielder made his first start for the club in its 2-0 victory over Dundee United, “It was as good a debut as I’ve seen in a long, long time.
There was a lot of pressure on him - not just here but back in his own country, where he is a big star. The people of Japan will be wanting to see how he got on and you can tell the Japanese people he did very well. I don’t know all Celtic fans personally but I think they’ll be quite happy.
I just told him to enjoy the game and the atmosphere, and he certainly did that."
Ahn Jung-hwan (South Korea and FC Metz)
After scoring on his debut in his new team's 4-1 defeat by Paris St.Germain last week, 'The Lord of the Ring' couldn't repeat the same feat faced with Le Mans and the game finished goalless.
Junihci Inamoto (Japan and West Brom)
With the new Premier League season only days away, Baggies boss Bryan Robson has declared that the combative midfielder is in great shape and in line for a starting place at Manchester City on Saturday.
“With all the international games he has come back a far fitter and stronger player than when I first joined the club – that’s why he’s pushing for a regular place here now,” said the ex-England captain.
Wheres the rest of them you ask? I dont know this is all they had, I will be lookin for more
