Israel was not admitted to the Asian federation because of the presence of the many Islamic and Arab countries. Thus, they were invited to join UEFA, and are considered part of Europe for football. In fact, they are in the race to qualify for the World Cup in France's qualifying group!

Really  , I had no idea! This is an old complaint used by people who don't like Israel and don't want them in UEFA. Israel may be in the Middle East geographically, but in culture, economics, democracy and technology they are European. In the UN, Israel is classified as a Western European/North American country. Israel has participated in Eurovision for the last 40 years. They are also in European sports federations for every sport.

Cyprus, Turkey, Kazakastan, Ajerbijan, Armenia, Georgia: These are all countries in UEFA. Are they all European? I guess it depends on who you ask and what criteria you use.

Israel is ranked as the 15th best league according to UEFA ranking, out of 50 leagues in Europe. Thats pretty good for a country that has less than 7 million people. They have had 2 teams in the Champions League(Macc. Haifa 02/03 and Macc. Tel Aviv 04/05). Hap Tel Aviv made the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup in 2002 by beating teams like Parma, Lokomotiv Moscow, and Chelsea. Macc. Haifa made the Cup Winners cup quarterfinals in 1998.

Israel is also 1 game away from qaulifying for the world cup.

Before you argue something you should know the facts.

arsenalamie is right. But another thing you didn't know is that Israel was one of the founding members of the Asian federation. Macc. Tel Aviv and Hapoel Tel Aviv won Asian(Champions League) club championships and Israel was the Asian champion. But then Arab countries boycotted events against Israel because they were afraid to lose to Israel(it would be bad for propoganda). Israel was then kicked out of the federation they had created.

You're right, culturally Israel is part of europe... Geographically, no way. On the other hand, there would be too much conflict if they were part of the Asian confederation. Cyprus is part of Europe too, culturally definitely, most likey geographically too. However, the other countries have no business in Europe, but... thanks to politics and BS of that sort, they unfortunately are.

Must we move USA and Canada to UEFA too then?
