LONDON - Half a dozen explosions rocked the London subway and tore open a packed double-decker bus during the morning rush hour Thursday. The blasts killed at least two people and injured scores in what a shaken Prime Minister Tony Blair said was a series of "barbaric" terrorist attacks.
Police reported "a number of fatalities" at one London subway station. "Things are still relatively confused," Superintendent John Morgan told reporters.
Blair said it was clear the attacks were designed to coincide with the opening of the G-8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland. The prime minister said the meeting of world leaders would continue but that he would return to London.
"Whatever they do, it is our determination that they will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this country and in other civilized nations throughout the world," said Blair.
The blasts came one day after London was awarded the 2012 Olympics. A spokesman for the Olympic committee said it still has "full confidence" in London as the host of the games.
Bloodied and bandaged witnesses reported panicked crowds fleeing the blast sites. A witness at the bus explosion said the entire top deck of the bus was destroyed.
My condonences to the families and friends whos relatives were killed in the blast, and I wish a speedy recovery to those injured. As for those responsible for the attack, Go ***K UR SELVES

9/11 was before the war against terrorism started.
the bombimg of kenyan and tangaynikan embassy was before the war against terror started.
The 1972 Olympic killings were before the war against terror started.
Many blasts and caused by IRA and ETA in UK and Spain respectively, were before war against terro started.
Probably, the war against terror has made the US homeland safer and Europe is as vulnerable to terror attacks as it was before.
I agree with your second part.. many sick people are running lose in our societies..

Well I only meant terrorist acts by the islam terrorists since those are the terrorist this war is against really. I also meant the frequency of these events. The fact is that the U.S. dragged several European countries into their war and now they are paying for it. There is no way to stop these things in Europe unless you hunt down and kill every single terrorist and that is impossible. I'm just waiting for Rome to be hit now.

Nachi, you have to understand that before the "war on terror" there was terror, the US used to be the terrorists, if there is any country to blame it is surely the USA.
Don't think that these terrorists are just plain evil, they have reasons for what they are doing, England is one of teh countries who participates in the war in Iraq along with the USA, and that doesn't necessarily mean they are not going to be attacked for what they have already done.
I feel very sad at this moment, because a 4 of my family members live in London right now and I have contacted them, they are fine thankfully.
The people responsible are the world leaders, and for this incident it is the prime minister of England who should be blamed more than anyone, after the terrorists themselves.
This war is something the world leaders started, and it is something that only they can end, which they would rather not for their own reasons.

This is a war between the World leaders and the Islamic Terrorists, and sadly we the people are right in the middle of it.
Sadly, I know for a fact that there will be alot more of this happening in Europe, sooner than later. Italy as said on one of the websites might be next, but it doesn't really matter because this will not stop and it is too late for the world leaders to change their disgusting minds.
And if you think these people are going to get caught and "punished" so what, that doesn't even come close to meaning that others will not do it.
It is the greed and curruption and hate of the world leaders vs the terrorists.

Don't worry guys the U.S have a got a Monkey, which they call a president to protect you guys! i mean he gives a speech every month on how the terrorist are evil and barbarians and like that has changed anything.
Either way i agree that the U.S is to blame.
Even if they catch Osama (which they won't) it wouldn't stop the war on terror. In my opinion it would give the terrorist more to fight for.
Nachi, the U.S is not safe, anyone can walk up to you with a gun and blow your brains all over the place because your allowed to buy guns here.
Now if the U.S don't stop invading "Smaller" and "Weaker" countries, specificly in the middle east then there will be more dead bodies but does the U.S president care? Mothers are losing their sons, Wives are losing their Husbands and not to be Sexist or anything but Women should not be in a war because they depend on men to protect them.
I told you guys that if this idiot gets re-elected that he would screw us all didn't I a while ago? This is just the beginning because now, the U.S aren't the only targets, now Osama and Al Qaeda have focused on Europe aswell and all thanks to your precious president America!

A massive intelligence investigation is under way to find those responsible for the bomb attacks in London which killed at least 37 and left 700 injured.
Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said Thursday's attacks bore all the hallmarks of the al-Qaeda network.
The Queen will visit some casualties in hospital while Tony Blair prepares for the last day of the G8 summit.
Home Secretary Charles Clarke is urging people to go about their business as normally as possible on Friday.
Transport operators hope to run a near normal service on the Tube on most lines on Friday.
But the Circle and Hammersmith and City lines will remain closed.
King's Cross station was due to re-open for suburban rail services only.
Buses are expected operate normally, except around the immediate areas where the explosions took place.
Transport officials have urged passengers to remain vigilant and keep hold of their baggage at all times.
Anyone worried about relatives or friends they have not heard from is advised to contact a special police hotline on 0870 156 6344.
Scotland Yard have confirmed seven people died in the Liverpool Street explosion, while 21 lost their lives at the King's Cross blast and another seven were killed at Edgware Road.
Two people died in the explosion on a double decker bus at Upper Woburn Place.
It is thought the death toll could rise on Friday. Australian Prime Minister John Howard said he had information that 52 people had died.
I saw three bodies on the track - I couldn't look, it was so horrific
Scott Wenbourne
Commuters to face London travel
One eyewitness - Scott Wenbourne - was on the train travelling in to Aldgate station when there was an explosion in the carriage in front of him.
He told of how he and other passengers were led to the station after the blast.
Describing the sight before him, Mr Wenbourne said: "As we walked up past the carriage we saw debris and torn metal. I noticed the carriage was completely ripped apart on one side.
"I saw three bodies on the track. I couldn't look, it was so horrific. I think one was moving but I'm not too sure."
BBC correspondent Frank Gardner said dozens of secret service staff at MI5 headquarters are working flat out to find out who was responsible for the four blasts which terrorised London in the space of 56 minutes.
'Soft' targets
Closely co-ordinated attacks aimed at "soft" civilian targets without warning pointed towards a group linked to, or at least inspired, by al-Qaeda, he added.
Whitehall sources say every resource is being used, but it may take some days before a picture emerges of who was to blame.
Police said they were examining a claim on the website of a previously unknown group, the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda of Jihad Organisation in Europe, saying it was behind the blast.
The statement said the attacks were revenge for the "massacres" Britain was committing in Iraq and Afghanistan and that the country was now "burning with fear and panic".
It warned Denmark and Italy they faced similar attacks if they did not withdraw their troops from the Middle East.
This picture was taken only seconds after the blast
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Brian Paddick said officers were looking into this claim, but that they were keeping an open mind.
He also stressed officials had not received any warning of the blasts.
Anti-terrorism officers are also examining whether or not the attacks were the work of suicide bombers. Mr Paddick said it was too soon to say definitively either way.
Foreign Office officials says the attacks were similar to those on the Spanish capital, Madrid, last year.
Mr Straw said the spate of attacks on the public transport system bore "all the hallmarks of an Qaeda-based organisation".
But he stressed that assessments were still being made.
The prime minister, who left the G8 summit to meet police and security officials in London after the attacks, is due to get back to business with other world leaders later.
Two people died in the bus blast
All statements on the key issues being discussed, including steps to tackle climate change, were postponed until Friday, although negotiations continued.
The leaders did however pause to condemn what they called "an attack on civilised peoples everywhere".
Meanwhile the home secretary urged people to try to continue their lives as normally as possible.
Mr Clarke said: "The aim of the terrorists to try and stop us leading our lives as we best can and I think our responsibility is to try and get on and live our lives as we can."
No intelligence had been received of any further attacks being threatened, he added.
But the Metropolitan Police advised people to consider whether they needed to come to work.

The BBC has located an Islamist website that has published a 200-word statement issued by an organisation saying it carried out the London bombings.
The organisation calls itself the Secret Organisation Group of al-Qaeda [literally the base] of Jihad Organisation in Europe.
The group is previously unknown.
The website has previously carried statements purporting to be from al-Qaeda. It is not possible to verify such claims published on the web.
This is the full text of the statement.

In the name of God, the merciful, the compassionate, may peace be upon the cheerful one and undaunted fighter, Prophet Muhammad, God's peace be upon him.
Nation of Islam and Arab nation: Rejoice for it is time to take revenge against the British Zionist Crusader government in retaliation for the massacres Britain is committing in Iraq and Afghanistan. The heroic mujahideen have carried out a blessed raid in London. Britain is now burning with fear, terror and panic in its northern, southern, eastern, and western quarters.
We have repeatedly warned the British Government and people. We have fulfilled our promise and carried out our blessed military raid in Britain after our mujahideen exerted strenuous efforts over a long period of time to ensure the success of the raid.
We continue to warn the governments of Denmark and Italy and all the Crusader governments that they will be punished in the same way if they do not withdraw their troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. He who warns is excused.

I am not at all surprised this has happend in London, it had to happen some time, and wasnt really shocked it did when I was told about it when I got to work last night, after IRA bombings in the UK, this is nothing, I hope most ppl will get on with there lives like normal, after going to stay with relitives in Wales when I was 5 or younger to about 8 or 9 and getting our car searched for potential car boms just in case one was out under it when we were gone and it was parked, this sort of thing dosnt worry me, I have lived through the threat of IRA bombings for 28 years, so this wont shock or make me change my life in any way at all, screw them.

I think that preventive wars aren't the solution.
IMO the solution is preventive education. But after I heard Condolezza Rice and Blair, I had, and I'll have forever, the conviction of that they are all dumbs. They don't fight "our liberty". Does somebody here that is more terrible 37 dead people by bombing in London, than 100,000 Iraquis by allied bombing? Or it is just that our foolish governors have tried to make us think we live in a world of peace, cinema and hamburgers while there are dying daily 40,000 people in the world because of hunger. If we claim for vengeance again, they will strike again and this won't ever end!!
And Nachi, ETA and IRA have not islamic issues. And those other attacks to that US ship and the embassies, were only to the US, the country who destroyed Iraq twice for petrol, who did nothing in the Uganda genocide but could do, and the guys that gave money and instruction to Al Qaeda in teh eighties for their funny wars in the middle East with Israel, Lebanon, Siria, Palestine, Jordania, Egypt, Iraq and Iran.
Everything started in the eighties, many years before the 11-S and the embassies attacks.
And I repeat, and nobody will make me think other thing, our leaders are as dumb as those who drove us to the World War I, they were so worried on maintain the power that started lying, they were so liers that they believed their own inventions and went to war.
***K THEM ALL, THEY, AND THE TERRORISTS THEY CREATED. If they want war, why don't they go instead of sending thousands of young people to death who go there "to protect their country" under a mountain of lyings covering another mountain of lyings.

Blaming Bush is not the solution, kicking him out IS. Those blasts have happened here but, France and Germany didn't join the war. Have you seen bombings in Berlin? No. Have you seen bombs in Paris? No.
Maybe, the fundamentalists hate Europe, as all the africans dying by AIDS with our indiference may hate us, but the difference is that the US GAVE OSAMA BIN LADEN MONEY AND TRAINING!
Russia didn't participate in Irak, but that terrorist group is not blaming them since a pair of years for the war; that group is bombing Russia since 1990 because of the Chechenia conflict. I absolutely blame the terrorists of Beslan, of the Moscow Theatre, etc.; but we have to recognize too the methods to end with those craps that the police and the Russian Army followed. You should travel to Chechenia a little and see the devastated houses by the russians.

Blaming Bush is not the solution, kicking him out IS. Those blasts have happened here but, France and Germany didn't join the war. Have you seen bombings in Berlin? No. Have you seen bombs in Paris? No.
So your solution is to give in to the demands of the terrorists?
Fact is 9/11 happened before the war on Iraq. Fact is the British "shoe bomber" happened before Iraq, luckily he was caught before he set off his bomb. Fact is there have been arrests of Islamics in France plotting on blowing up stuff in France despite France's opposition to the war in Iraq; thank God they were arrested and caught before they set off their explosives.
You don't stop terrorists by giving in to them. You stop terrorists by tracking them down and killing them. Blaming Bush and ignoring the terrorists plays into their hands. How can we defeat them while we are at each others throats?
