Real Madrid have finally reached agreement with Santos over Robinho, ending any floundering hopes Arsenal had of landing the player.

For months, Real have been tracking the Brazilian starlet and they agreed terms with the player's representatives some months ago.

However, Santos have thus far refused all of Real's offers.

Arsenal made a move last week, but that has seemingly just spurred Real into sealing the move - although Robinho always underlined his intent to move to El Santiago Bernabeu.

Agreement was reached late on Friday at Santos president Marcelo Teixeira's house and Real will pay €25 million for Robinho - although Santos will only receive 60 percent of that, as the player's agent Wagner Ribeiro owns the rest of him.

The last straw for Santos was when Robinho failed to turn up for training on Friday, following his participation at The Confederations Cup in Germany.

Real's sporting director Emilio Butragueno was confirmed his delight at Robinho's impending arrival in the Spanish capital.

"Robinho has been the soccer sensation of the last year," he said.

"Although he is very young, his contribution to Real Madrid can be spectacular. Luxemburgo only took seconds in giving his opinion. Wanderley is enchanted by his arrival."

Madrid will now turn their attentions elsewhere, having already landed Robinho, plus two further South Americans in the shape of Carlos Diogo and Pablo Garcia.

One player still being strongly linked in England and Spain is Liverpool's Steven Gerrard.

It is claimed in both country's media that contract negotiations are not going well - with Spanish sources saying that Gerrard's huge demands are a tactic to engineer a move to Madrid.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Gerrard, but the longer talks ensure without progress - the more speculation about his future there will be.

Robinho has threatened to the Saints taking its case to the courts of the FIFA if the organization that presides over Marcelo Teixeira follows without facilitating its exit to Madrid. This is the consequence of the last refusal that the player received from his club in the meeting that was celebrated Friday in Sao Paulo the past. In her Robinho and its father were present, Gilvan de Souza, its representative Wagner Ribeiro, Marcelo Teixeira, the vice-president of the Saints Norberto Moreira and the trainer Rooster. After two hours one did not reach an agreement. Ribeiro transferred to the Saints the new supply of 22 million euros of Madrid and Marcelo Teixeira returned to allude to the rescission clause, that is of 45 million euros.

This last encounter has been a great emotional blow for Robinho. thats what i dont understand and thats what robinho and his agent are complaigning about, a player who given his all 2 the club and a verbal agreement was reached a while ago with real madrid, now when the player clearly and openly declared his wishes the president of santos is doing these childish acts, and its true they are after the money because they know robinho now values more than what they previously agreed for and if he stayed till world cup 2006, his price will go high, thats why they dont mind letting him go if real payed the buyout clause which is very high. Even pele who was against robinho leaving is saying its only fair that he goes 2 Europe..

i hope that the case is resolved peacefully but if not, hopefully FIFA will favor robinho as its 3 parties(player, his agent who owns 40% & real madrid) against 1(santos) + the kidnapping/security excuse should do the trick.

Luxemburgo Tells Robinho Europe Is A Must

Wanderley Luxemburgo has told Robinho that he must join Real Madrid if he wants to be the best player in the world, but the player’s agent has announced that the player is ready to see out his contract with Santos.
The Madrid coach believes that the only way for South American players to prove how good they are is to test themselves in one of Europe’s strongest leagues.

But Luxemburgo denies that he is cajoling the rising star to abandon his club and states that he is just exercising his right as trainer of one of the world’s biggest football clubs.

"I am not seducing anyone," he said. "It is the right of Real Madrid to want to sign the best players and I do not think it is dishonest at all.

"I like Robinho, in the same way that I like Roberto Carlos or Ricardinho.

"The reality of football is that you have to play in Europe and Robinho cannot escape from that. No Brazilian player has ever been voted one of the world’s best players whilst playing in Brazil."

But while reports circulate that Santos have reached an agreement with the Spanish giants, the player’s representative, Wagner Ribeiro, has dismissed the speculation and claims that Robinho will stay put for now.

"Robinho will hold a press conference soon to announce that he is going fulfill his contract at Santos," he said.

Amedida that is spending the hours, Robinho knows clearlier that it wants that its immediate future is in Real Madrid and for that reason it stays in revolt. It yesterday returned to demonstrate it with facts. It has not appeared in the training with the Saints since it returned of Germany, where disputed to the Glass Confederations. But it did not go either yesterday to the party in which its equipment faced the Juventude in the Urban stage Caldeira.

In the Brazilian club, its decision did not seat anything well and measures were adopted: Robinho will be fined to fail to fulfill the norms again. The forward not even warned the organization that he had thought to absent itself of the encounter and it remained shut in in his house. The player already has left very clear what wants and with its position dealt to avoid that arose some problem with the fans from the Saints.

The fan already is impatient and the forward did not want to cause mainly that a violent situation took place, after the campaign that is in the street under the motto "Robinho, quédate". The Brazilian has repeated it over and over again. He dreams about playing in Real Madrid the next season and, tired to demonstrate it with his words ("I cannot train to me with the Saints.
