I am a striker and sometimes have trouble trapping my goalie's punts or goal kicks. What method do you use to do this? do you try to trap it in between the ground and the bottom of your shoe, try to let it hit the soft part of your cleat and slow down, try to use the inside of your foot to bounce it up a little bit, etc.?
This is before the ball bounces of course.

Can you trap it with your chest? I have been able to trap it with my chest, bring it to the ground, and fire in a goal doing this.

Hello,
i might not be a expert at this but im pretty good at control balls, what i do is just concentrate on the ball and look at it while it comes down, and if you are facing it get and theball is coming down then what i do is use my feet, mostly the instep and right when the ball hits bring your foot back a little, so you make a cushion for the ball.
For highers balls its the same case you just got to know where the ball is.
hope that helped.
thanks
Going on with what the whole cushioning the ball thing, a good way to practice this is just juggling. Juggle say, 10 times, then fire it straight up and control it back to a lower juggle when it comes back down. It REALLY helps to improve touch.

well i usualy wait for it to drop near my feet or move backwards if need be and than tap the ball to direction of goal and dribble wait for keepa to run out and shoot around him or if he dont dun out i blast the thing and hope it goes in or deflects for second shot on goal. ada option is chest it and do a turn volley.

One of the best things I've ever learnt for trapping a moving ball is to use spin. I learnt this off a guy in a park where I used to live, and he had amazing control even on the roughest pitch. Its using spin .
Slice at the ball to create a spin on it, the direction you slice depends on what you want the ball to do. The most obvious is to just slice straight down creating backspin so that it sits up for you. However as you get better you can slice at it in all different ways and anticipate its movement before you defender.
I hafta say when mastered - and I dont think I'm even close to mastering it - this technique is amazing.

It depends on how the ball comes at me. If it is a punt (like straight-up, then straight-down, I use the top part of my foot, or possibly trap it between the bottom of my foot and the ground. When its coming low, and soaring, I trap it with my chest, or jump and get it with the side of my foot.
I have seen a person (the goalie) walk the ball to the edge of the goalie's box and kick it and a dude on my team trapped the ball with his chest and before it even hit the ground launched it back at the goalie, and scored since the goalie had come so far out and not hit it.
Another funny story, I've seen a guy go to trap the ball with the bottom of his foot and he miscalculated and it hit the ground and popped up and hit him right between the legs, it was kinda funny but I could feel his pain.
Dizzee, thats a new technique, I've never heard of...I'm gona try that tommorow.
