Today it was the draw of all the Greek professional championships. Ronaldinho was the guest star at the ceremony.

AT THE FIRST MATCHDAY PANATHINAIKOS-OLYMPIAKOS DERBY. Believe me or not I had a feeling about this :D.

Here we can talk about the championship, especially the Alpha division and I will be posting the results.

Alpha Ethniki - 1st matchday (August 28)

Levadiakos-Ionikos
Apollon Kalamarias-Ofi
Panathinaikos-Olympiakos
Xanthi-PAOK
Panionios-AEL Larissa
Atromitos Athens-AEK Athens
Kallithea-Egaleo
Akratitos-Iraklis

The draw of all the matchdays here (only in Greek) : http://www.contra.gr/story.62290.html

That sucks for you guys you will lose your home and season opener... HAHA j/k

That actually sucks because at that point the games are meaningless.

Good we start early to get in games before Champions league

Pao-OSFP. I want a tie...

Well, you can think that the opening of the Championship with derby is not so good for both PAO and OSFP. Because the teams will have no many games played and the new players will be probably many in both teams.

Panathinaikos is in a better position because exept the summer friendlies we have the two Champions League qualifiyng games in August, and for Olympiakos the derby will be the first official match :) .

The fans ban is not related with the referees. The ban is given by the goverment - most of the referees are still the same after goverment changed and they are still many referees that belonged to Paranga. Terovitsas especially you have to agree with that :D .

Yeah you are right here.
I can't say anything for this year.
We where the ones that gave you the Championship with the stupid way we played the 2 final games.
But if only one of the three posts we had, two turns before the end of the Championship with aek and paok was in...
As for the 5 games without your fans I don't give a crap.
You where responsible for that.
By the way we had 3 games without our fans this year too.

The championship will finally start at August 27 with the game Levadiakos-Ionikos.

EPAE administration council had a meeting and decided that no away fans will be in the Panathinaikos-Olympiakos games. Also they decided to change the Greek national divisions by the next season (2006-2007). A and B division will have 18 teams each and C division will have ONE group with 20 teams.

Monday

Atromitos Athens-AEK Athens 0-0

With the new rules, the 1st division league games will be played on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. There is still one game to be played in the first matchday (Levadiakos-Ionikos) and it will be played at September 4, due to some constructions at Levadia stadium.

Arsenalamie, the B Ethniki championship haven't started yet.

Unfortunately, before the Atromitos-AEK game, we had riots with fuel bombs outside the stadium between Atromitos, AEK fans and policemen.

This post has nothing to do with this topic.

3 times Turkish teams faced Greek teams in Europe. 3 times Turkish teams lost, not including the recent Turkish loss to a Cypriot team, which would make it 4.

Here are the all-time Euro rankings:

Panathinaikos - 37th
Galatasarai - 40th (even though u have an UEFA Cup, you are still lower)
Olympiakos - 67th
AEK - 79th
Fenerbache - 98th
Besiktas - 99th
Omonoia (Cyprus) - 115th (higher than Trobzonspor)

In the top 20 all time Euro nations rankings in Euro club competitions:

Greece - 14th
Turkey - 19th

You sure Turkish soccer is better??? We have a CUP and you dont. Most Greek players play abroad. Not many for Turkey

This has been a dissapointing season, to me, for Greek Soccer

Olympiakos is doing well domestically, but like usual, play like shit in Europe, despite they're exciting new signings

PAOK, who made some very interesting signings this season, have been dissapoiting as well.

And Panathinaikos still have yet to tally a W, yet.

=/ Not the exciting new season I had anticipated.

unfortunately olympiacos got the 3 points and lead the championship alone...
I have to say that i'm impressed by aek performance...Aek deserve the 3 points in my opinion...but okkas morale was in superb form and i think that he proove his worth once again...Soares could score 2 times but he never made it...Let's hope that olympiacos will loose some points in the future so all competitive teams could play better!

Alexopoulos controlled the ball with the hand before he scored, the goal should not count, but AEK played better in most of the game. Last year AEK had huge luck but this year they are very unlucky this year (at the game with Zenit too).

No one knows for shure if it was a hand. I saw closely and I didn't even see the hand tounch the ball. It was more like hes body touching it. I'm realy depressed realy. If AEK keeps losing then they wont even be fourth place and then they wont have a chance in Europe which means less money and less great players making it the end for AEK and greek competition. AEK has one problem and thats money. Please POA since you know alot about soccer is this realy the end for AEK? I know i'm not an AEK fan but I dont want them going anywere lower than 4th.

But even if we are not contenders this season...

Greek clubs consider proposal to form new Super League

ATHENS, Oct 26 (Reuters) - Greece's top soccer division could be re-structured as a Super League of 16 clubs to boost club revenues and modernise the way the competition is run.

The proposal has come from current league leaders Xanthi who took out full-page adverts in newspapers on Wednesday to explain their proposal which will be discussed by the league's governing body next month.

The idea has the support of all major Greek clubs including champions Olympiakos and includes, among other suggestions, bonuses for clubs staying in the top flight for more than three years as well as bonuses for newly-promoted clubs.

It also sets quality standards for stadiums for clubs in the Super League and bonuses for good referees.

Greece's professional soccer leagues are currently run by a union of club owners (EPAE) rather than the FA, which is responsible only for the national team, the amateur divisions and the Greek Cup.

But continuous in-fighting, bitter legal disputes and even fist fights between club presidents during meetings have embarassed the EPAE and prompted calls for an overhaul of the professional game.

Although no time frame has been stipulated, the fact that Greece's first division matches are soon to be included in the country's most popular sports betting game which will increase the club's incomes, has added a sense of urgency to the plan.

FIFA, world soccer's governing body, will also be watching developments with interest after criticising the Greek government for interfering with the running of the FA at the FIFA Congress in Morocco last month.

However the creation of a Super League is not directly linked to FIFA's concerns.

IMMEDIATE NEED

"There is an immediate need to change the structure and operation of professional football regarding the first division," Xanthi said in full-page newspaper ads, outlining the proposal for the creation of a Super League.

"All chairmen-owners and their representatives will be kept away from any active involvement and will be replaced by professionals receiving salaries for their work," it said.

"We will keep the good points of the proposal and see how we can improve the bad points," a senior EPAE official told Reuters.

"The proposal is right in saying that professionals should manage the league and not the chairmen but there are issues such as TV rights and revenues for each club that currently cannot be adapted for many reasons," he said.

Greece, which surprisingly won last year's European soccer championship, has failed to capitalise on this success, with the national team failing in its bid to reach next year's World Cup finals in Germany.

Attendances at domestic matches are also disappointing with many clubs struggling on gates of around 1,000 or less.

Although crowd trouble has diminished this season, problems are rife domestically with teams challenging refereeing decisions days after matches have been played, as well as demnanding referees are banned and attacking their own union for not doing so.

GREEK SOCCER SET FOR REVAMP

Greek football moved a step closer towards a major revamp on Monday night following a historic vote by club bosses in favour of forming a new 'Super Liga.'

At a general assembly of club chairman, eight clubs voted in favour of the new move, which is aimed at bringing some much needed 'health' to domestic football in Greece, while five clubs withdrew from the voting and three stated their position as neutral.

Although the vote has not been officially recognised as a 'decision' by EPAE, the Greek football league - who are opposed to the plan - it is a major boost for the proposal, which will be considered by EPAE's executive committee and Greek sports minister Giorgos Orfanos on Friday.

Crucially, the plan has the support of Athens' three biggest clubs, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos and AEK Athens.

Chairman of all three clubs stated their elation following Monday's marathon assembly.

"This decision will lead to new and better seasons. The level will go up, the championship will become more competitive and teams will have a lot of income," said Olympiacos supremo Sokrates Kokkalis.

"Also, the associations will strengthen and the spectacle that they will offer will be more attractive for the spectators."

Pana chief Giannis Vardinogiannis declared: "We have made a step in the right direction. We are about to open a new page and start from the beginning. We will undertake our responsibilities and the change will also help the small teams."

The chairman of AEK Demis Nikolaidis added: "We are in front. Eighty to eighty-five per cent of the clubs agree and also the three big teams. This is one of the historical days in Greek football and I believe the championship will become more competitive and we can enjoy better football and have justice and an end to mediocrity."

The proposal, which was originally put forward by northern Greek side Skoda Xanthi, stipulates that clubs part of the new league would need to meet certain criteria regarding finances, stadia, and training facilities.

EPAE have rejected the vote as a 'decision' due to the non-participation of five clubs and have stated that the proposal will have to meet the approval of the EPAE executive committee and Greek sports minister Orfanos.

However, Orfanos has already given his backing to the proposals so it seems highly likely that the clubs will get their way in the upcoming EPAE extraordinary meeting on Friday.
