MILAN - Cameroonian player Pierre Nlend Wome has joined FC Internazionale on a one-year contract (expires on 30 June 2006), which was registered at the Lega Calcio offices this morning.
" Wome has been one of our objectives for several months," said technical director Marco Branca and transfer market consultant Gabriele Oriali. "So we are pleased we have done a deal that is technically useful for the team and economically in line with the club's project.
" Wome is still a young player (he turned 26 last 26 March), but he has the right Italian and international experience to best settle down into Roberto Mancini's squad. Wome can cover a number of roles with consistency, and at left-back he has performed to excellent levels, last season and not just, when he was always among the best on the pitch for Brescia."
Thanks a lot Moratti, this 'surprise' has exceeded all of my expectations. Yes this guy can play a few really good games, but he is mediocre and prone to making remarkable mistakes. I hope that we can sign a centre back of real quality and I am also hoping that Wome can surpise me....but somehow I think not :D .

MILAN - He's twenty-six years old, he's been in Italy since 1996, he made his Serie A debut for Vicenza at the age of seventeen, and at Brescia last season he scored against Milan. A good start for neo-Nerazzurri player Pierre Wome, born in Douala, Cameroon on 26 June 1979. Out-of-contract Wome joins Inter on a free transfer and has signed a one-year deal which expires on 30 June 2006, guaranteeing Roberto Mancini the services of a complete left-back who is at home in a 4-4-2 line-up. He's not just a useful left-back, he's also a player who has a good dose of European experience, having played for Fulham in England and Espanyol in Spain.
He's on holiday with his wife and two children at the moment, but Pierre took time out for his first Nerazzurri conversation with Inter.it. "Inter are a very big club who have everything needed to win a lot and they already achieved a goal this year by winning the Coppa Italia," said Wome. "I'm obviously feeling very proud, I'm also very happy and I hope I can contribute to a very big victory."
On his past experience in Italian football, the Cameroonian defender said: "This really is the best and most difficult championship in the world, and when you're playing elsewhere all you think about is coming back. And it's a second home for me. I have lived in Italy for many years and I like it here."
Wome's Italian experience has paved the way for a successful career at international level. "I won two African Cups with the U21s, another two with the national team and I have played a total of four," he explained. "We beat Spain in Sydney in 2000 to win gold at the Olympics, and I took the last, decisive penalty. I have played in two World Cups, in 1998 and 2002."
Did Wome know he's the first Cameroonian player in the history of Inter? "No, I didn't know this, but it makes me even happier and prouder. You'll see, I'll have many reasons to do myself proud."

This wasn't the surprise was it? It can't be. This is a joke. He can't even take Coco's spot for #2 LB. Let alone challenge Favalli. I know we needed a LB but come on Inter... you can do better than that. Should have tried say VDM + cash for Evra or something at least. So many options out there for that position. Chivu would be ideal but we had options like Evra, Dede, hell even Kaladze for gosh sakes. Anyone that can do a better job than Favalli... and Wome isn't anywhere close to that level. I do give him credit for having a monstrous amount of caps (like 70+) and great international experience at his age but we're talking Cameroon here... not Argentina or something. He won't even get a crack at the first-team... waste of the wage bill.

I think Wome would be good at Inter. I've seen him play at Brescia last season and he did well. I think he will even be better than Favalli because he has alot to offer in attack which Favalli has lacked on that left side last season. But I hope I am proven wrong, last thing we need is to bench Italian players.

Perhaps we can assume that Inter saw the same things that you did, which is good. We should all give Inter a break and Wome a chance.

I'm not sure if this was said here or elsewhere, but Wome was one of the top rated players by Gazetta last season. He is a good player, but like I said earlier he does make the occasional serious error. I think we are balanced though now at full back on the left and the right.
Right back:
Javier - A solid defender, tough tackler, who can also get forward well
Ze Maria - Likes to get forward as well and an excellent crosser of the ball.
Left Back:
Favalli - A very solid performer. His crticism isn't warranted as he very rarely has a weak game.
Wome - A defender who loves getting forward and from what I have seen is also an excellent crosser of the ball.
As you can see we have players with contrasting syles for both sides of the defence and that can only be a good thing.

Heaven forbid Italians are ever benched  Should be the best eleven starting every week. Race, colour or ethnicity doesn't matter. If Wome is on form then he should play. Heck I'd even bench Adriano for a Martian if he gets us the scudetto :fangs:

WOME: "I'LL DO MY TALKING ON THE PITCH"
Sunday, 17 July 2005 17:49:50
BRUNICO - "I'm very happy to be here, it was a surprise for me too. I wasn't expecting to have an opportunity like this and I will try my best to take my chances," said Inter defender Pierre Wome during his presentation press conference in Riscone di Brunico yesterday morning.
"For me the past is the past. Let's look ahead," said the Cameroonian left-back when asked about his goal against Milan at the San Siro last season. "I will do everything I can to help this great club reach its goals. I'm pleased I have this chance and I'll do my talking on the pitch. I don't say much, but I hope I can give my replies on the pitch. And do it as best I can."

JULIO CESAR: "HERE TO IMPROVE"
Sunday, 17 July 2005 18:28:19
BRUNICO - After six months at ChievoVerona, where he got to grips with life in Italy and a new language thanks to the help of Luca Marchegiani, Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar Soares was officially presented to the press as a Nerazzurri player on Saturday.
"When I left Brazil I had offers from all the most important teams, but I preferred to take one step backwards to be able to take two steps forwards," Julio Cesar explained. "I arrived in Verona, where I didn't play, but I learned a lot. Now I am here at Inter and I have found two great goalkeepers in Francesco Toldo and Fabian Carini. I will do everything I can to take my chances."
What differences are there between Italy and Brazil? "They are two very different worlds, but Italy is a great goalkeeping school and I hope I can add to what I have learned in Brazil by improving technically here."

since there are no thread for julio cesar i just put his comments here :)
