Right now i'm enjoying listening "Shrek 2" and "stuart little 2" sountreaks. They got plenty good songs there. Exspeceally shreak 2.
Ocourse i like more soundtreaks but i'll post them later :cool:

Many of the songs are contrived specifically for the movie, that just doesn't seem to me the way you should make music.

Ah....that kind of soundtrack. Yes, I agree. But I think most movie soundtracks consist of songs or pieces of music already written, but chosen to represent a variety of things about the movie; the atmosphere, a character's mood, the era, the situation etc.
Addition: Just like when we make our own compilations.
