Has anyone here every done specific sprint training in athletics or anything similar?

Coz, I'm looking for some sort of sprint training work-out schedule or something. Supposedly you can easily take 3/4 of a second off your 100m time, if you havent trained or nethin.

Wow, 3/4's of a second... you'd have to go fully on a sprint workout for a long time - meaning, no soccer. Sprint specfics only if you want that improvement. I USED to have a sprint workout that was given to me from my soon to be uni track coach, i'll have to look around for it though.

These sites have a few speed workouts and GREAT advice generally, bit of reading but it's not bad... I find it interesting at least :p:

http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/sprints/index.htm (Sprinting - this one is really important. If you read through, it gives workouts AND some technique tips. Technique is VERY important and can help you improve SO much).

http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/strength.htm (Strength)

http://www.brianmac.demon.co.uk/plymo.htm (Plyometrics - I feel these are the most beneficial exercise for a soccer player as it helps to improve your acceleration, meaning you get to a ball 10-20yards away before someone else!).

Many other useful and interesting things on there. Just have a read around.

Purely for soccer.

I dont think its that far off, like, remembering that this is for someone who has never trained in sprinting before.

Thanks 4 the articles Rema, I'll give em a read...

Eh I dunno. 3/4's of a second or .75 seconds is ALOT when it comes to shorter distances (ie: 100m, which I assume is what's more important in a soccer aspect but even then 100m is too long). But in 400m I don't see .75s as unrealisitc.

Focus on acceleration drills (ie: plyos). Those are GREAT for soccer.

Oh, I always do! There's nothing better than shuttle runs. And yeah 100m is definitely too long for soccer. However, I want to do it just because its something completely different to the training I'm used to doing, so for sure if will help.
