June 15 (Reuters) Midfielder Franck Ribery has joined Olympique Marseille on a four-year deal from Galatasaray, the Ligue 1 club said on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old is reunited with new Marseille coach Jean Fernandez, under whom he began his career in the top flight with Metz in 2004 before moving to Turkey.
"The fact I know him (Fernandez) is a plus. He is the one who gave me a start in Ligue 1," said Ribery, who joined Metz from third division Brest.
Ribery will add creativity to the Marseille midfield and is the second new signing at the club this week, following Nigerian Wilson Oruma's move from Sochaux.
"I'm very happy to be here, Marseille is an ambitious club," added Ribery, who could cost the Cote d'Azur nothing because he has not been paid by Galatasaray since February and has asked FIFA to invalidate his contract.
Too bad, he was clearly your best player. What is the Galatasaray board doing?
