Zidane to quit Real in 2006

French midfielder Zinedine Zidane has reportedly reached agreement with Real Madrid to leave the club at the end of the 2005-2006 season.

World Cup winner Zidane, who turns 33 on June 23, has a deal running to 2007 but reached a gentleman's agreement with Real Madrid whereby he would play a final season at Real and renounce the final year of his contract, sports daily Marca said.

Zidane has been tempted by several offers from French football and Japan is a possible alternative.

Last month Zidane, who arrived at Real in 2001 from Juventus for 71.6 million euros, told the Real website site he would definitely retire in 2007, maybe even earlier.

"I will take the decision when I feel the time has come," he added.

Including Ronaldo..... :p

Just kidding.

Anyway this may sound strange as an Inter fan but I kind of miss Real being the best. I just hope they can be sensible on the transfer market this time around. There is a bit of a shortage of world class playmakers around at the moment, but maybe Diego of Porto would be a good long term investment.

Sad he has to leave but we will always remember him! We must enjoy at max this last season he'll stay with us then.....

And talking about the replacements, Diego sounds good, but if you want my personal opinion I think players like Zidane or a true playmaker no longer exists in modern football, now football is more pacey and requires faster players and with more versality, just like Dinho.....

i fink he talkin bout ESSIEN.
but last year the NEXT ZIDANE was croatias NIKO KRANJCAR lol so next year it might be TRINIDAA & TOBAGO's OWN LANCE KNIGHT LOL but yeah Niko would be ideal replace ment he is true playmakers and scores goals he is 21/22 and has captained funnily enough the top 2 croatian league sides and his manager got killed for the transfer lol so him getting out of croatia would be good lol.

I think you're talking about Mourad Meghni. He's currently playing for Bologna.

Meghni Wants Topflight Football
6/22/2005 10:37:00 AM
The young Bologna player has no intention of playing in Serie B next season.
Following his side’s relegation from Serie A, Mourad Meghni is considering his options for the future.

“It’s possible that I return to France. If I have to do it, or go to Spain or anywhere else, I will do it. Right now I can’t see my future.”

However the French midfielder is certain of one thing.

“There’s only one thing I’m sure of: Serie B is not positive for me or for the squad. I don’t know the club’s intentions, but I don’t want to play in such a low level.”

Real Madrid and Juventus are rumoured to be after the Meghni, who is considered as Zinedine Zidane's heir.
