A dissapointing loss. Greece played well, had chances and Ukraine sat back. We lost by Ukraine having one chance. Greece has a more favorable schedule than Turkey and Denmark and thats a positive. Also, some Turks think they have already qualified. You and the Danes have to play 2 derbies as opposed to us playing one. Also, Denmark is three points behind us and four points behindTurkey, WITH ONE LESS GAME PLAYED. And they are your next opponent.

Now that Denmark is back in the mix, their games with us and Turkey will be vital in determing second place. Turkey's game in Ukraine will also be significant, depending on how seriously Ukraine takes the game.

Keep your head up, Hellas!!! Its not over yet.

I once was krunk but now am bunk. I, hereby, step down as krunk president usa due to lack of funds.

Sad things have been happening left and right and there is nothing that has yet to make me feel re-born, re-energized, re-krunked. I feel like I'm living in a melodramatic Dashboard song. Or even Linkin Park. Or EVEN Simple Plan.

Yeah, that must be it. My life is now a Simple Plan song.

Hey Dad, look at me, think back and talk to me. Did I grow up according to ----plan?

...Or maybe not.

But yeah, this Greece loss has got me very dissapointed, but never lose hope. I must admit, when I get home, and saw the score on FIFA.COM, I really got sad, and sighed the most dashboard sighed.

But it is definitely not over yet, and for all you bitch hazz hateradin' niggas that be talkin dat shiezz sayin we aint go qualify fo nuthin, ya all some lyin' ass niggas cos greece gon' be thurr in 2006

Word to yo motha

I posted this in another thread but I should have put it here first.

Unfortunately Greece lost today but, there is still hope.

16 Points for Turkey 15 Points for Greece 12 Points for Denmark

I know there are many scenarios but the most realistic is this. Greece has to win all 3/3 games that would leave Denmark with 1/4 loss at least. Turkey must also lose at least 1/3 game. Therefore the standings would finish like this...

Greece 23 Points
Turkey 22 Points
Denmark 21 Points

I am not so optimistic we can qualify. What I saw yesterday dissapointed me a lot... πόρνη μπάλα...

Anyway the hope is that dies last so we can still hope.

Did you heard what Blahin said? If there is need to help you we will help you. (with their game with Turkey) :p .

I heard similar scenarios too. How sad is that dude! Even Kazaks working against Turks(they helped a lot to Greece...0-6 :D). They didnt give a training field to Turkish NT(actually they did but the field was like a farm). Ppl saying the same stuff in Kazakhistan and Georgia like what Blahin said. One down 2 to go!

Greeks lose control of their destiny

Bad news is reputed to always come in threes, a saying Greece would no doubt confirm after their experiences in the June round of FIFA World Cup™ qualifying.
Although placed in an extremely tight Group 2 featuring in-form Ukraine, Turkey, the third-placed side at Korea/Japan 2002, and Denmark, veterans of many a major tournament, the Greeks had been looking a good bet to qualify until now. A week ago, they were in second place, just three points behind the Ukrainian pacesetters and two ahead of Turkey. Had things gone according to plan, the European champions could have killed two birds with one stone by reclaiming top spot in the group and ending the qualification hopes of Turkey.

On Saturday 4 June, Otto Rehhagel's charges travelled to Istanbul, and after an even match, came away with what looked like a valuable point after a goalless draw. Judging by the smiles and raised arms at the final whistle, the players certainly saw it as a good result, but they still needed to do the business at home three days later in a six-pointer against Andriy Shevchenko and Co.

Comfortable winners over Kazakhstan a few days before, the Ukrainians came to Piraeus with a five-point lead. It would not be easy for Greece and so it proved. After failing to find the back of the net, the EURO 2004 winners suffered the indignity of seeing their miserly rearguard breached late on by Andriy Husin as they went down 1-0. At the same time, Turkey were enjoying a romp in Kazakhstan, inflicting a 6-0 defeat on the group's whipping boys to move ahead of Greeks into second place and give their goal difference a boost. With two of their last three matches at home, the inverse of the Greek schedule, it is now Ersun Yanal's side who are in control of their own destiny, albeit where second place is concerned, for Ukraine are already practically guaranteed top spot and automatic qualification for Germany 2006.

To complete the triple whammy for the reigning European champions, Denmark - in fourth place with 12 points - went and beat Albania 3-0. Only three points behind and with a match in hand, the Danes are now coming up fast in the Greeks' rear-view mirror.

Behind Ukraine, whose presence in Germany is now virtually assured, the battle for second place and a play-off berth for the promised land is shaping up to be quite a contest. It is a race in which the Greeks are no longer the best placed, for even if they pick up three points on 7 September against a point-less Kazakhstan side and win at home against Georgia on 12 October, their FIFA World Cup dream is still likely to rest on their trip to Denmark on 8 October.

In the meantime, they will be hoping that the outcome of the meeting between Turkey and Denmark goes their way, and that their neighbours also come a cropper in their match against Ukraine on 7 September.

Before Greece's trip to Turkey, coach Rehhagel declared: "If we win here, we are almost in Germany." Four days down the line, and the hopes of the German tactician can best be summed up as: "If we win our last three matches, we will still have a chance of qualifying."

Rehhagel: «There is still hope»

«We started out well on the field but we didn΄t manage to score. Our opponents played badly in defence. We created a lot of opportunities but our flaw is that we don΄t score in a hurry. Ukraine have fast forwards and we conceded the goal in an idle moment. We felt Karagounis΄, Kapsis΄ and Dellas΄ absence on the field. It wasn΄t easy to fill in. Nothing is lost yet. Our next match is in Kazakhstan in September and I hope we΄ll be there with a full complete roster. We keep our hopes up as long as we still have a chance.»

Zagorakis: "We dont Feel Discouraged"

Theodoros Zagorakis was voted MVP of Greece v Ukraine by Media representatives (Vodafone sponsored). The national team captain denoted: «We could have scored particularly during first half-time. In second half we made some mistakes and put ourselves in a tight corner. We don΄t feel discouraged since we have three more matches ahead of us. We meant to bring joy to our fans but we didn΄t make it.»

ummm tell that to the Greeks who have to come to Turkey once a week just to do their grocery shopping coz the Euro prices are too high for them and they cant afford to even shop in their own country !! I lived in Ayvalik on the Aegean coast and saw this happen every week for the last 2 years.

all you need to do is look at my signature to see what kind of stadium we have - no comment mate. ;)

Beckenbauer: «European Champions are a must for the World Cup»

The President of the 2006 Organising Committee, Franz Beckenbauer, sent the following letter to the HFF President, Vassilis Gagatsis, on the occasion of Greece΄s participation in the Confederations Cup:

«I would have liked to have said a personal farewell to your team before it departed from Germany. Unfortunately, there was no time. This is why I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from my heart for Greece΄s participation in the FIFA Confederations Cup 2005. It was great to have you here with us in Germany.

In the name of the entire Organising Committee I would also like to thank the many Greek fans that really added to the tournament with their tireless enthusiasm and their peaceful enjoyment of the matches. They created a fantastic atmosphere in the stadiums and helped to arouse our anticipation of the World Cup next summer.

When I visited the quarters of the Greek team, I was reassured that the team were very satisfied with accommodation and organisational issues. I hope that this impression lasted throughout the tournament. Please be so kind as to inform me of any suggestions for improvements you may have.

I would like to wish Greece good luck and all the best for the remaining qualifying matches for the World Cup next year. It has to be said, the European Champions are a must for the World Cup. I therefore would be delighted if my tie, which I gave Otto Rehhagel as a welcoming present, brought the Greek team enough luck for them to return in summer 2006 to join us at the final competition of the 2006 World Cup.»
