What makes a good step-over?

I mean I know you basically just step over the ball, but I have to do combos for my step-over's to work...I never just step-over the ball and come back with the same foot and carry it away.

I love the stepover... I think personally it is used best when done simply, that is, for example, left foot goes around the ball (from inside to outside) and, with the outstep, the right foot takes the ball left.

The best thing about using it quick and simple the 1st time is that it gives you options to confuse the defender from then on. Because the next time you fake with the left, he's expecting you to go right, add another stepover and then go left...

if u want to get good at step-overs, then skip rope a lot. after a while, u'll be so fast and light on ur feet, not to mention coordinated, that the defender will have no chance wut so ever.

i dunt relly know whether doing a stepover faster is beta than doin a stepover slower. ive seen c.ronaldo do stepovers n i tink out of all the ppl who do it he is the fastest but as effective as robinho or ronaldo i dunt tink so. wen ronaldo or robinho does it the defenders is staggerin all over the place. so im not relly sure whether fast or slow is gud

Well the only thing I'm good with a step-over is (like I said before) combos. Like I do my step-over so slow that it doesn't fool anybody, but the good part about it is that when I step-over to the right, its so slow, that people KNOW that I'm not going to the right, but then I fake left, and go right.

BTW, my step-over's aren't smooth, they are kinda jerky.

Getting your stepovers smoother all has to do with getting some "muscle memory" - so, getting your muscles to learn how to make the specific movements needed to do a stepover. If I do one, I do generally the same as Dizzee. I'll also do one if I see one of my players running along the side with me so the defender may bite at the stepover, thinking I was going to pass to my teammate with the outside of my foot.

The most important part of doing a step over is selling your fake, you have to dip your shoulders like you're going in that direction, You gotta look like you're gonna go that way, and after you do that you want nice quick direction change. Someone mentioned C ronaldo's step overs not being effective, that's because he dosen't try to sell his step overs, like ronaldonhi, or zizu, he just does the, in a flurry of moves to confuse the defender. A good fient after a step over willt hrough off any defender.

i sed tat c.ronaldo does it relly fast n its not effective tat way. but his acceleration to change direction is so quick tat is works. but if u watch robinho his stepovas loop around the ball relly wide n it does luk like everytime he does one stepova the defender shuffles alot

Yeah Link's right, if you can get a video of France -vs- Portugal, Euro 2000. Zidane is amazing in that game, his stepovers are just perfect. He really sells the defender, because his whole body gets into it.

Personally, I think that's more important. However its good to have the quickness of foot to be able to do the real quick ones. They can be really good if you receive the ball and just wanna quickly buy some time to think.

For quicker feet, if you master the 'Around the World' juggling trick, you'll notice that definitely helps.
