We had 7 chances to score!!!!!! 7!!!!!
man, I can't believe it. We had 7 starters injured, and it showed. We played Albania with ALL back ups. No wonder we lost. I should ahve known...
A damn pity...WE SUCK!
PS The only bright spot is that ALL 7 injured players will be back for the Germany game.

oh my ...
what can I say to this ?!?!?!
I could not believe the result, had to refresh a page 50 times before I believed it.
If I would lose to Albania, I would go to the nearest building and commit suicide.

i am disgusted and i give up caring about this team.
they are traitors, they are villainous and disgusting and if i was there i would beat them to a bloody pulp. i do not care if i got arrested and greece was banned. i hate them all. from the players to the team's waterboy. here we are, the loyal fans, proud of our country, wanting nothing more than our team to do justice to our overwhelming pride. instead what do we get? a loss to a team that we should be able to beat tied up and blindfolfed in our sleep, and excuses excuses excuses. " we had 7 injusred starters" "we missed 7 chances" all that is meaningless bullsh*t.
the national can go f*ck itself

Total embaressment. Those bastards should hang their heads in shame. I didn`t get to see the game but from what I`ve heard it`s a good thing I didn`t. Losing to Albania!!! I saw the score and fell off my chair. They are a disgrace to the nation, but, I wouldn`t put the blame on the players only, the whole operation stinks all the way to hell. The Greek clubs don`t give a damn about the NT and why should we?? I give up on them and will concentrate on Olympiakos the whole way. I have had it with all of them (coaches, players, selectors etc), I get nothing but dissapointment from them. I have friends here that are from all over Europe and keep asking me what the hell is happening to our NT and I have nothing to say.
I suppose it`s better that they get knocked out in the early stages rather than qualifying and humiliating us even more. This way they can stay home and screw around on the islands. That`s all they care about.
We can write books and books on all the excuses we have come up with. As byzantium said, it`s all bullshit.
They can all get ******.
Yianni.
I guess this is your "S-R-A-M-O-T-A" topic...
Did they at least fight and try hard?
BTW, not to search for any excuses you could use (or we), but let's just admit that football is the kind of game where shit happens and these qualifications so far proved it enormously: Spain-Austria 1-1, Faroes-SLO 2-2, Romania sucks, England-Finland 1-1 (England sucks), The Netherlands-Portugal 0-2, Croatia-Scotland (with many injured players) 1-1, Malta-Czech Republic 0-0, and so on and so on...
Yesterday, we tied Switzerland 2-2, despite bein 1-0 and 2-1 down, playing with 10 men for 60 minutes, having a clear penalty annuled and our goalie getting the first goal from 25m free-kick between his arms AND legs, when the ball was going some 5km/hour fast... BUT WE FOUGHT! Didn't quit.
There's a long way to go and nothing is over yet. Your direct competition is doing you favors - Germany wins all, England sucks all, which could take you to 2nd spot afterall. I mean, there's NO way some Albania could qualify, is there?

yes seka you are right, that is the way football is. but for greece it is a little differnt. we have up to this point NOTHING but high expectations and disappointment. teams like england, germany, netherlands, spain, may have a bad period, but the pressure then is enormous to make the team better and erase the mistakes. in greece, people just stop caring about the national team. it is run by greedy, politically minded beurocrats who don't care about the structure and success about the NT. they select the wrong people, and the wrong people do the wrong things. they brought Angel Iordanescu, the great romanian coach, to our NT and he started to do good work. but he was treated like SH*T by ithe greek coaches who were jealous (!!) of him, and drove him away. there would be no shame if greek soccer was powerless and we did not have good players. we would not expect anything and losses and constant failure would be expexted. but greek players are TALENTED and SKILLED.
i am hurt
i am embarassed
i am angry
and to answer your question SEKA, greece supposedly played well in the first half. we just could't score a damn goal, and it stressed the players.

and something else. my team, aek athensm has 6 national team members. 3 of these 6 including demis nikolaidis, the best striker in greece have quit the national team in disgust.
Wow! That's BAD, dood.
Are you saying that people don't identify with their national team? This is what made football the greatest sport, for Christ's sake!
I look at thing this way: nations that stick together, have good sport teams (for example I would put Slovenia, Croatia, Yugoslavia here, also Russia, France...), I don't mean football only, also Bball, Hball, volleyball, waterpolo, hockey... Colectivity. That's why the whole nation identifies with it's sport team, especially football team. Of course the resources aren't the same and small countries are deprived towards big countries, but that self-identification might be even stronger in small countries, which eventually makes their breakthrough. I think you Greeks DO stick together, so I can't understand this...
Which bring us back to that "money, money" topic I posted. That's exactly what I was talking about. When we tied Faroes the approcah of our players was so disgraceful I wrote that I don't care if all star players are left out of the team: if they don't feel like giving their 100%, let's call in hungry youngsters, who aren't blinded by $$$ and would be very proud to play for their country.
I never demand the result (win) from our team (although it's true I always expect it), I only demand them to give their 100% and I am satisfied then. If the opponent is better, it's simply better. Handshake. That's sport.
I think (speculation) this game was all about Albania wanting the win more. I read on dailysoccer that their Prime Minister was extremely happy and gave a speech about it, saying what king of promotion and national pride this match has given to Albania.

Well, I haven't posted in 2 days, (I hope u guys didn't think I commited suicide lol).
But I'm back now, I didn't want to keep posting when I was angry. I have collected my thoughts now. I agree with what everyone here has said. But, their is one excuse that can't be overlooked. And that is that we had 6-7 injured starters:
Machlas-(Only REAL expeirienced striker that is willing to play)
Tsartas-(He's the playmaker, it REALLY hurts not to have him.
Georgatos-(What can I say, he is AWSOME on the left side, and would have REALLY helped vs Albania.
Dabizas-(Without a doubt the best Greek defender)
Amanatidis-(He has CL experience, and played awsome "D" vs Finland)
Eleftheropoulos-(One of the best GK's in Europe.
Then EVEN THE BACK-UPS WERE INJURED!!!!!!!
Goumas
Antzas
Even they were injured!!! Let me ask u Where would Slovenia be without Zahovic and 5 other starters? Where would Argentina be without Batigol, Crespo and 4 other starters? Where would England be without Beckham, Owen, Scholes and so on... It's really hard ro replace key players, on any team.
On top of that we have never won in Albania. So really, should we have expected a win?
Like SEKA said, at least the players (Whatever ones we had left) tried. Choutos showed skills, yet at the same time showed his lack of expeirience. Karagounis, the same. The defence was a mess without Dabiza and Amanatidi. Our offence lacked a true leader without Tsartas and Georgatos. The Albanians came out stronger and just looked like they wanted the win more. Now we must look ahead. Hopefully, ALL our players will be ready vs Germany. These next 3 games are the most important. 3 GAMES AT HOME!
Germany
Albania
England
If we can pick up at least 2 wins and a draw. We would be in pretty good shape. It's not over yet, WE STILL HAVE A CHANCE!!!
WE MUST SUPPORT OUR NT!!!!!!!!

And one more point, here's the satndings:
Germany-6
Finland-4
Greece-3
Albania-3
England-1
Why can't we do it? We have a chance!!!
Finland have yet to play Germany, yet to play England and Albania AWAY. It's gonna be rough for them.
England have to play GERMANY,GREECE and Albania ALL away. There should be some points taken away their.
Us on the other hand, have 3 STRAIGHT HOME GAMES!!!!
If we can do good, we can have some confidence going into Finland and England for our last 2 games.
WE CAN DO IT!!!!!!
ZHTO ELLAS!!!!!!!!!!!
That's exactly what I was talking about, Chris.
Let me also answer your question (although it was a rhetorical one) from your first post:
- Slovenia without 6 key players would be... well, you saw in Maribor, you beat u 3-0 http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/frown.gif
- England without 6 key players would be... same as they are now http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.worldsoccerboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Fantastic
