Pele to visit northern Greek football up-and-comers

Brazilian football legend Pele will be visiting the northeastern Greek town of Xanthi, in Thrace, on May 12 to inaugurate the grounds of local favourites Xanthi FC, one of this season's top division success stories.

Pele will inaugurate the team's stadium and sports centre on May 12, and will be hosted at the centre's hotel facilities until May 13, the statement said.

Xanthi FC have impressed in the Greek championship this season with one of the league's best offenses, powered by 32 year-old Brazilian midfielder Luciano de Souza's fifteen goals.

In fourth place with three matches to go, the northerners have already qualified for next season's UEFA Cup.

Greek soccer is slowly growing!!!

Pele’s visit comes on the heels of one by retired Argentinean soccer great Diego Maradona, often cited as the sport’s other icon. Maradona had visited in January for interviews with local media and a guest appearance at Olympiakos’s Karaiskaki Stadium.

To the delight of the club’s fans, Maradona, who has been fighting drug addiction in recent years, walked onto the stadium’s pitch alongside Olympiakos president Socrates Kokkalis, and was handed a team jersey bearing his name and the famous number 10

FORZA ORTHODOXY AND THE EU?

The two 'institutions' are almost diametrically opposed. What are you trying to say?

Orthodoxy is archaic and dogmatic.
EU is progressive, inclusive and open to discussion. Not forgetting it comprises countries of the 'western' creed with greece the only 'eastern' orthodox member.
If you love the EU that means loving all the countries that make it up.
PEACE

Well I'm only responding to the post on this forum and i agree there is too much political diatribe in this section. Lots of ignorant comments for no good reason.
Take care...
