If you feel alone you you can get some support at

Just a note on the spelling it's Iain Hume, Jaime Peters and Ryan Gyaki and Canada's next star will be David Edgar (mark my words) :)

I don't know well how Canadian football advances this moment, but I find it a little difficult for 2010.

I'm Canadian and proud of it, but we don't have a chance at making '10, or even '14, '18, or '22. Just too many better countries around, doesn't matter how hard we work. I hate how the commentators on TV make it seem like we'r playing OK too when we're obviously the worser team.

2010 is a bit optimistic don't you think, 2014 is a better shot at the WC.
We need to get the whole game in Canada sorted out, from the CSA on
down to Canadian teams in MLS or a Canadian league on it's own. But to answer your question, Jamie Peters should be our next major star.

Our commentators are a bit biased i agree, but when Canada takes the
field against anyone were the underedog. If we can get the under 20 players coming in and playing in Europe then 2014 we might just make it. Keep
the faith.

The one thing in canada's favour is surely that they aren't exactly playing in the toughest region on the planet?

I actually feel quite confident. It's not like we don't have the players (we've got a good sqaud, based on names alone we should at least qualify), but maybe it's team chemistry that's lacking. I don't know.

Ok, lets check the situation.
The only thing that Canadian Soccer has to offer is Womens soccer. The best Canadian player right now, is by far Owen Heagraves, but he was smart and switched to Britsh Citizenship (England) and plays on the Engalnd National Team now. I live in Canada, but Canadian Soccer is a J-O-K-E
Canada even qualifying for the World Cup in 2010 has bout the same amount of chance as the USA getting out of Iraq by the promised time. Not impossible, but highly unlikly.

The Hargreaves defection or betrayal as some may have it is a shining example of the state of Canadian Soccer even to this day. It is a joke to serious soccer fans. Like it or not, our (I am a proud Canadian) best athletes gravitate towards Hockey and even Football, Baseball and Basketball. Soccer is far down the list. That is just a fact. How do we solve the problem? I really don't have an answer.

1. Expand the MLS into Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal etc. Scrap the A-League. Ive seen better soccer played at the High School Im attending in Japan.
2. Offer soccer Academies/programs, that have at-least-known players coaching. Every country should offer one of thedse academies. Sure it wont be as good as the Ajax Training academy, or the Real Madrid one, but its a start
3. Give Canadians a reason to stay as Canadians (Owen Heargraves situation)
Give other countries top players Reasons to Turn Canadian
4. Put as much emphesis in to mens Soccer as we do in womens. Apply to Host the World Cup, taht would be a awsome start.

Some good points, but....
1) I don't think all hese cities could support MLS franchises. Maybe Vancouver, but I could be wrong.
2) Very good suggestion, can't disagree with that one.
3) Like what?
4) I think this is a circular arguement. Interest is cyclical and depends on the success of the program, right now Women's is at the peak while the men's is in a valley right now. The only way more emphasis will be put back into men's is when they actually start to win.

Money, cash, befits, will make ne one stay or come for that matter. lets face it. I have Japanese, Canadian and British citizenship... give me a reason to play for Canada when I have been offered by the others
No Canadian mens soccer severly lacks....skill basicallly. The easiest passes are often to difficult for Canadian mens team, and half of them (or more than half of them) play in that damned A League. Like I said, A League soccer blows goat nuts (no really, it does blow goat nuts) How many Canadians are abroad playing right now (dis regarding the MLS)

As for how many Canadians are playing abroad. Over 100. I've had Americans tell me that is more than they have but I can't say that for a fact. If the A-League blows goat nuts how come they get so many overseas trials and signings?
A little less toking your E Yo and a little more reading might help.

Im sorry, let me put that question a little bit more clearly. By the way, MLS doesnt count. I meant in Europe.
How many Canadians are not either a second, benchwarmer, sent to the 2nd Div team, and are actualy recognized as decent players....
think about it that way.
No one outside of Canada gives a rats ass about the Gold Cup, and you know it. I live in Canada. What The ***k is the gold cup?> Honestly I know the Concacaff Cup is.
If you want to argue, wait until Canada gets a decent team, and plkayers that are loyal ebnough not to desert them. Heargraves was right to leave, Canadian Soccer offers nothing but lack of skill, and embaressment. If you had the chance to play for a world renowned team, wouldnt you leave Canada as well?

If you had the chance to play for a world renowned team, wouldnt you leave Canada as well?Did you look at the list? It clearly shows who is in Europe and who is in MLS. There aren't many Canadians in MLS because it is easier and more lucrative for us to play in Europe than MLS. The list clearly spells out who is where and at what level. Read man read.
Well if no one cares about the Gold Cup why does the winner go to the Confederations Cup and get an invite to Copa America. I guess nobody cares about those tournys either which is why the Confederation's Cup is on Sportsnet right now.
Hargreaves never deserted something he was never part of. He was cut from a youth team and played off Wales and Germany as well.
If you want to use Canada as a country of convenience and suck off its teat that's your business. Don't pretend that your ill informed trolling posts represent the rest of us fans who are not Euro posers.
By the way right now there are rumours of another Canadian going to the Premiership for 1.5 million. Is that good enough (Euro enough) for you?
******************************************************
According to Helsingborgs Dagblad, Atiba's agent has been contacted by Birmingham and, according to Dagbladets "sources", it is worth an estimated £1.5-2 million for Helsingborg.
Atiba admits that it's flattering to receive an offer from one of the best leagues in the world. (Makes the offer from Austria Wien a little less interesting.)
Helsingborg are disappointed that Atiba's playing in the Gold Cup and they've done everything they can to stop him playing - including contacting the CSA - but Atiba is committed to playing for Canada as his first priority
Main point from second article is that Atiba is in no rush and he'll wait until he sees the offers.

Hi Canadians, I just want to say that your team sucks. But, I don't know if your team is going down, maybe it isn't. Many players in the Canadian NT are immigrants. Who is Atiba anyway? Atiba doesn't sound like a canadian name, it sounds like a canadian citizen name maybe. The NT is composed of players who weren't good enough for the real country, so the came to Canada and easily made the team. I don't know how Canada sucks like that in soccer, I played soccer several years and I know that the teenagers love it more and more, but why don't we get a good NT from it. I also live in Canada, I'm serbian by the way. Probably canadian soccer is going up because it can't really be worse than it is. 33 millions habitants, and we can't get a decent team to COMPETE against Honduras, Guatemala and Costa Rica. All the canadian team does is participate. They almost play the same role as San Marino, Malta, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein in Europe, sure points for the other teams. But soccer is one thing. Look at the other sports, Serbia, a little 10 million habitants country economically devastated beats you easily in many sports. Basketball, volleyball, soccer, handball, tennis, waterpolo, etc. You name it. Maybe not hockey, but hockey is a sport played by only 65 countries in the whole world and only the 10 best teams can compete. Look at the latest world cup, slovenia for example gets smoker 8-0 by Canada, 7-0 by the USA, Slovenia is actually the 14th in the world!!! How can the 65th country even play against Canada, it would be 100-0 (seriously). Hockey is a sport that nobody gives a f*** about! I'm sorry to say it this way.

canada has NO chance of being in the 2010 World Cup finals, we are too messed up for that. You are really looking at 2018 or 2022 for another appearence for Canada at the finals. Right now we have major problems to correct before we can even think of the finals again. They are manager Frank Yallop, with him we have no chance of success, the lack of a real league at this time doesn't do us any good, the CSA's lack of vision for the program is just killing us at home and on the international front, heck we're a soccer joke. We have simple minded groups like Voyaguers that think only about the good thats happening in Canadian soccer and not the negitives, which out number the good.

folks in on things JMC banned myself from Big soccer for speaking the
truth on the Canadian game? Not that im worried, cause no one in
this country takes the national program serious.Actually beast here is the truth which you, as usual, neglect to tell. I didn't ban you. I was ready to give you enough rope to hang yourself, give you a warning and then suspend you when you did it again. The moderators from the other forums where you troll non stop got together and we put our two cents in and you were red carded. Why? For your multiple identities, (do I need to list them again) which are a red card violation and your trolling by constantly trying to draw attention to yourself and hijack threads.
You were suspended at Voyageurs, Big Soccer and now you're trying SFN. Just to let everyone here know his modus operandi is to say the opposite to what you say and then back his opinion up with a post with another name that is really him. He also posts inflammatory polls. The one thing he hates is to be called mean spirited and be ignored. There was an ignore campaign against him and he couldn't stand it. He then gives the old "free speech" argument to support his destructive behaviour. Unfortunately, there is no "free speech" as you can't yell "FIRE" in a theater and you can't yell "BOMB" in an airport. Lots of people on the boards with different opinions beast. They just don't troll non stop and use 20 sockpuppets.
Good luck to you at SFN beast :)

Voyaguers are so blind to whats hapening with the sport in this country
it's sad. Big soccer was a Voyaguer's, with just a bigger audience, same
closed minded people. You can say fire or bomb any place you please,

You're losin' it kid. If they get any more boring I'll have to stop giving you the attention you crave.
Well at least the old soccer hating beast has finally shone through. I knew it wouldn't be long before you showed your true colours here. You just can't help yourself.

the night copy national team matches on dvd for safe keeping, thank god
for the confederation cup, i was forgetting what real football was like when
watching Canada's past antics. If you need copies i will gladly send
them on how much will you charge me to get rid of them.....or i can send
the to the CSCF -Canadian Society of Cruelty to football.

Canadians can barely play hockey, they can't play the american version of
football, at baseball we suck but it's a sissy game and who really cares, and
basketball is another sport we stink at, so Canadians are not supplying world
class athletes anywhere, except at the cheating tables of taking drugs to
improve performance, there we rule. Soccer in Canada does not need
mediocre teams like the Lynx or the Caps and Impact they are really pub
league teams at best.

BigRedMapleLeaf---whats your problem with canada? no, we don't have a strong team, but not many ppl in canada play soccer... And how can you possibly say we 'can barely play hockey'?!! just look at some olympic stats, and most teams in the NHL, though in USA cities, are comprised of sometimes mostly canadian players!!! (tampa bay, stanley cup winners 2004, carolina, 2006)
Were also great at snowboarding, skiiing, curling, speed skating and lots of WINTER sports, cuz,,,,DUH its cold here

Actually many people in Canada do play soccer. Over 850,000 registered players which makes it the most popular participation sport in the country (even greater than the over 500,000 registered hockey players)

The problem is, it is far down the line in terms of being a popular spectator sport. In terms of marketing in Canada it is not a great sell.
And we do have a relatively strong team, the problem is playing too few games and the ability to get our best players together.

Until the recent devaluation of Concacaf and Gold Cup points we were at around 50 in the Fifa ratings and then shot up to the 80s. In the more accurate Elo ratings, we are ranked 59th which is fair considering how few games we play.
To clear some more misconceptions, we no longer play the British long ball game and have played most of our recent games in an offensive 4-3-3 employing 3 strikers.
Our most recent results are a 2-1 win over Cuba (in USA), 2-1 loss to Spain (Spain), 1-0 win over Luxembourg (Luxembourg), a 0-0 draw vs USA (USA) and a 2-0 win over Austria (Austria). You'll notice we don't play at home very often however there is a two game home and away series coming up vs Jamaica.
