The groups for confeds cup ( 15 june - 29 june) are

A) Germany, Australia, Argentina, Tunisia
B) Brasil, Greece, japan, Mexico

Leipzig hosts Brasil vs Greece (16th june) and Australia vs Tunisia (21st june) and also the 3rd place match (29 june)

Anybody from here planning to make it for any of the leipzig games, pls do let me know.

Do you think Basti will make it for the Confeds? Magath is giving him to little match time (10 min. or so). He needs games to return to peak shape and a club of Bayern's size needs results and trophies. Results you have only with the best players on the day and on this count I think he won't make it at Bayern. It's sad as he's so hugely talented, having the value to turn a match on its head.
Frings is no longer a starter at Bayern. Do you think he will still have the notch over Ernst (in the holding role). Is Sebastian Kehl an option anymore?

personally i wish we could find a way to have deisler,schweinsteiger and ballack all on the pitch at the same time, though i doubt that'll happen, there probably our 3 most creative players.

confeds comming up in a few days... schweinsteiger is a sure sure starter after his display against russia. Podolski will also start for sure. The team is turning out to be more youthful than I thought.

I am a Germany fan, but I don´t see Germany winning...Oliver Kahn is in a good form, the midfield with Ballack, Schweini and Deisler is excellent as well and also the offense with Podolski, Klose and Kuranyi is dangerous, but the defense is just to young and unexperienced. Without Wörns, Nowotny, Lahm and Metzelder, the defense is pretty weak.

If Germany would play in defense with Hitzelsperger, Huth, Mertesacker and Hinkel, the average age of the defense would be 21,5 :worried:

edit: I forgot, Klose is injured...so we have only 2 good strikers left :boo:

I predict minimum we'll be in the final, decent shot at winning it..here's how i look at it, i can't imagine us not getting out of the group, so we're as good as in the last 4 in my book, there we'll face either brazil,greece,mexico or japan, as long as we avoid brazil in the semi' i'm confident we'll make the final...then if we get brazil or argentina in the final i see it as a 50/50 game,could go either way.

Germany played very good. But against a team like Australia I wasn't expecting them to let in thos 3 goals although credit fully goes to the 2 amazing Australian players where one of them scored 2 goals.


By the way the player of the match should be Schwartz(forgot how to spell his name) who is the goalkeeper of Australia that saved the game until the upset goals by Germany.

It should have been a definate 7-3 but because of the Australian keeper it was 4-3...lol.

Heres my analysis/view

we played good against the aussies ( except for defense), and they played good too.

Personally, we missed so many chances, and had so many saved by schwarzer. but our defense sucked cleraly. i dunno why frings was used as a defensive midfielder. hamman is cut out for the role. We are clearly missing lahm, metzelder and heinkel. Of our centre backs on per mertesacker performed well yesterday... huth plays like a wretler... he is just big... and bumps into others conceeding unnecessary freekicks.. mertescaker uses his physique properly. Schweinsteiger, Kuranyi, Podolski, and especially Arnie Friedrich has a great game. The performace Friedrich gave was a revelation. Ballack, still is playing only to about 60% of his level. He must tune up fast for the other games. and Kah on the whole looked tired.
Good attacking display by our NT. I'l say with our mainstay defenders back, this team has the talent and the tenmprament to go all the way in the world cup.
and lastly, well played australia, you guys made the match worth watching with good counters.

Brazil is taking the confederations cup. They destroyed greece 3-0 and i warned you they have an incredible attack. Yes i am happy Adriano scored!!!! ;) Theres no way anyone can match Brazil, they are way to powerful.

Germany played like shit vs australia. Germany will be lucky to reach second but first is going to Brazil with adriano scoring all the goals. :silly: :thumbsup:

It was a second half blitz. This match confirmed my fears that aasmoah and hitzlsperger, dont understand the game of football. They are under the impression that kicking the ball very hard is the objective. Once these two were replaced, we had no problems dispatching the tunisians. Roberth Huth played good for a change, and Mertesacker is the find of the tournament for us. Podolski and Schweinsteiger combined very well in this game.

Schwarzer played so well, a great match by him... Germany just to strong however i thought the penalty was a little harsh. The biggest thing to come out of this match was a reassureance our defense in appauling. Our attack and counters however great, three goals against Germany you have to be happy with. Good finsh by Podolski ey Nachi ;)

Brazil lost 1-0 to mexico today. Brazil had so many chances and they deserved to win. Ronaldinho passes way to much, I wouldn't mind seing him shoot some more because i don't think he took one shoot all match. The passing in the middle for brazil is good but a bit to much. These are world class players, i wouldn't mind seing them go one on one with weaker defenders. Brazil should have won but it doesn't really matter because they will dismantle Japan. 4-1 Brazil.

Yeah i noticed with Asamoah he was trying to do everything himself, on a few occasions Podolski was alone in the centre but Asamoah had a blast well wide. And he was taken off directly after.

yah, asamoah is just a fringe player, taken in the squad becuase the regulars are injured. same goes with hitzlsperger. I dont think either of these two will make it to the wc.

Hitzlsperger is just a normal Prem player (or was, until his move) he's nothing special, but he has a SERIOUS shot on him, amazing. I think you should give him a bit more of a chance.

Germany were unimpressive, and Tunisia deserved at least one goal, but ultimately Germany won the game, but 3-0 was a gift.

The one against Chelsea wasnt a penalty, the one against Tunisia.. I dont think they get any clearer than that one. Straight penalty.

Yes Hitzlsperger is an average player, but average is not good enough for the German national team. I have to mention though that the position that he plays in the NT is not the same as he used to play in Aston Villa, but even in his normal position- defensive midfield- there is too much concurrence for him at the moment. Frings, Ernst, Kehl and maybe even Hamann are fighting for that position, so Hitzlspergers chances are bad.

Deisler was weak in his fights this time, he is very "fragile"- at least for German standards. He had very serious injuries in the past years and is a bit out of form because of that, but he was a real genius before that injuries...Germans still hope he will gain his old form.

But Germany definitively derserved that win, even if 3-0 was too high.
I am very confident for the WC because I know we have a few very good players that are injured/out of form at the moment, but will be ready for the WC, such as Lahm, Metzelder and Klose.

And the penalty for Ballack was ok, of course he could have just ignored the soft kick of the Tunisian defender but he did not because he wanted to win the game.
And Ballack is not only "half decent", he is one of the best midfielders in the whole world.
He scores many many goals in the NT as in the Bundesliga and has also strong defending abilities. I wouldn´t exchange him for Lampard or Gerrard.

A good performace by us, considering this wasnt our strongest NT. Argies played well too, especially after aimar came in. Good all round performances from everyone in the side. Substitutuing Ernst for Ballack would have tipped the scales in our favour i Think.Deisler had an amazing game. Mertesacker and Huth are becoming a good centre back partnership. They have to be tested further, but they do have the potential.

Honestly...before the tournament I wasn’t sure if Germany would win the cup..yes I knew they will go further ( they are strong, have a great history and talented players) but they didn’t show their real strength recently...but after what I saw I think Germany is back and if they won the cup they deserve it..this is the kind of matches i like to watch...well done

Brasil werent necessaraliy the better side today, but a rare mistake by Mertesacker meant a goal for Adraino. We had our chances, and some better finishing by Ballack could have been a turning point.Schweinsteiger was missed, But nevertheless, no reason to despair.. this youth team with some guidnace can go to great heights next summer.

Ballack sucked but Kaka didn't do much better either. I still think ronaldinho needs to start taking shoots when they are available but for some reason he never does. The first penalty was clear for brazil but the second one i'm not to sure about. I was happy to see adriano score twice. Ballack didn't do anything. Huth is an idiot and the same goes for deisler even though deisler is the only one who attacked a lot. It could have been another free kick goal for adriano but it hit the defender and went out but the dumb ref didn't even give them a corner.

Overall it was an interesting game and Brazil performed well and so did germany. I'd say the ref was an complete idiot.

Why did adriano get a yellow card? i didn't get that because all he did was go offside.

Adriano got yellow card for time wasting. He kicked the ball away after being found offside. Lucio did that too, twice, but got away with it.

I know, I felt really sorry for the Mexicans at the end especially the way they played all the way to the end.

Even on penalties these 2 teams tied the game, it was amazing to watch the similarities of these 2 countries when it comes to physical play, but Argentina was a lot more brutal especially Colliccini who was bood in the game for making a dangerous "tackle".

Overall Mexico should have won, but 1 small mistake by the Mexico player let Cambiasso finish it 6-5.

Germany 4- Mexcio 3

a good performance from our NT once again in this tournament. Inspite of having a player ( Mike Hanke, dont know what he was trying) sent off and playing more than an hoour with 10 men, we won against the mexicans. This is their first loss in a game ( non penalties) in 21 games.

My verdict:
Ballack : good game, finally showing his form of 2002
Hinkel: He played wonderfully too, we didnt miss Friedrich at all
Kahn: not a great game, didnt make a single notable save
Huth: Messed up in defense as usual, but scored a goal

Even with 10 players we dominated the game
