You need Greece and the Greek Republic of Cyprus to help you get into the EU, which Turkey wants sooooooooo bad!!! They can veto you out. But both countries support you going in. The EU does not recognize your governent (particularily France) as being European because it a nationalistic and military government; a military which is heavily financed by the United States. Nobody recognizes the Turkish republic of Cyprus, except for Turkey itself, which is why the Greek Cypriots vetoed the Kofi-Annan plan because it was too pro-Turkish. The Cyprus problem is another problem Turkey faces.

Greece was a first world country 20 years before joining the EU. Its tourism is one of the most highly regarded in the world as is our food. Your country is sooooo dependent on billions of American dollars in aid, a part of which is given to Turkish Cyprus, which is a ghetto. By the way, according to the Wall Street Journal, for the year 2003, Greek Cyprus GNP was 15 times better than that of Turkish Cyprus and Greece's GNP was 7 times better than that of Turkey. If these countries, including Greece, were so "tiny and pathetic", then logic suggest that they would not have been members of the EU.

The Byzantine empire was never really a "Greek" empire. Just like the empire of Alexander the Great. However, Greece introduced to the world so many innovations in many disciplines that i could not even fit them here. Their culture has influenced the world in so many ways. There are way too many Greek legends in the arts and sciences. But, Greece never had an empire. But, then again, why should they have an empire, which normally consists of tyranny, oppression, and bloodshed, which is what the Ottoman Empire is best remembered for?
