Greece has a HUGE month in June. with 2 extremely decisive games for their World Cup qualification. then the game most Greeks have fantasised about for so many years, Greece-Brazil.

i, personaly, think that Brazil won't put in their star team. i doubt this is something real major for them. they didnt have their star team for their confederation's own "Copa America 2004: Peru", and they still won the damn tourny. i think they will keep training their 2nd and maybe 3rd players to gain experience and take over when their present star team retire internationaly. they probably see this as a bunch of bonus games to train.

This is an excerpt from an interview with Brazil coach, Carlos Parreira, regarding Confederations Cup.

Given the proximity of the next FIFA World Cup, are you planning to blood new players this summer or work with your existing squad?

We haven’t decided yet. But I can assure you that Brazil will be putting out a strong side, whatever squad I bring. I think it will be good to a have a closer look at the level of some of my players, as well as experiment with alternative line-ups that could be useful in case of injuries or suspensions. If I had to put a figure on it, I’d say that perhaps 60 per cent of my current squad will be there. But as I said before, nothing has been decided yet. The important thing is that, as always, Brazil have an impressive array of talent at their disposal.

You take on Mexico, Greece and Japan in the first phase. What can you tell us about them?

Well, we’ve been drawn in a very interesting group. All the participating sides are champions in their own right and we expect it to be very competitive. Greece had a magnificent European Championship in Portugal. I was there, and what I saw was a side with great team spirit and fight. They might have had a slow start but they finished impressively. No question, their team has great potential. Japan are a side that have improved greatly in recent years and will definitely be at Germany 2006. As for Mexico, we’ve played some cracking games against them recently. Our clashes are starting to take on classic proportions and are always tough, exciting games.

in a way, the Brazilian coach is saying wut i was saying. he said 60% of his current squad will be there. u know that's excluding his stars like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, etc. and he wants to let some of his less experienced players gain some experience.

i said i personaly think this, and the coach himself kind of reflected the same idea. but then again, June 16th is about a month and a half away, we'll see then.

nonetheless, Greece is now getting the chance to experience oppurtunities not that many countries do. the team and it's fans should cherrish these times.

Yesterday on TV a reporter asked Giannis Topalidis if they will take seriously Confederations cup or they will rest the players and give more importance at WC qualify games. Topalidis asked that we are going at Confederations cup for the best and we will play with Greece's best players there.

Looking at the group i think greece will get the 2nd spot just ahead of mexico, which would put them into the semi finals, there they should face either germany or argentina.

We underestimate teams that are not big football powers and we are not good against them (Happened in Euro with Russia). Maybe our chances of winning Brazil is bigger than winning Japan or Mexico :silly: .

Inter and Bologna asked EPO for having Karagounis and Zagorakis at the games they have in about two weeks (Inter for the cup final in Italy and Bologna for the relegation play-off). If they go they lose the match with Brazil. Rehaggel will decide if he will let them go after having a conversation with them.

Greece needs Karagounis more than inter do. i think he is more important in the national team than in inters squad. got a nice kick

I didn't think most of those Brazilians would come to play. We can lose to them and still beat Mexico and Japan to advance to the semis to play prob either Germany or Argentina. It will be fun I cant wait.

Our NT is leaving for Germany today I think. The mentality is not the best after this fluke with Ukraine. Brazil lost to Argentina too in their last game. I think that is bad because the media will criticise Brazil a lot, and their next game is with us... The things are going to be tough in all the three games but I believe we can do something good.

I really like to know about this games. Im gonna try to watch these games. We knocked out Brazil from the competition in the last Confederation Cup. Last time they brought their %80 of their squad. Im especially curouis whats gonna happen! because Brazil is really good against defensive play style!

We must get a positive result against brazil to boost morale and gain momentum for the next match with Japan.

We must also not allow brazil too much time with the ball because they will generate more scoring chances that way.

I think a key to this match is to counter attack quickly when their wing backs try and move forward.

Dellas, Kapsis and Karagounis are out for the game with Brazil as things are now. And Zagoranis I think loses the game because he goes to play for the Bologna playoff :mad2: .

That's a major blow to have four starting players not available for the first game.

Kyrgiakos and Goumas should replace Kapsis and Dellas on defence. Although Otto like to use a sweeper/stopper combo instead of two traditional center backs.

As for Zagorakis and Karagounis, Otto can form a midfield out of Tsiartas, Giannakopoulos, Basinas, Katsouranis, and Lakis.

I'd rather have our usual squad opening game but we have ot make due with what we have.

We can still get a result with these players.

The national team arrived today at Leipzig for Thursday match. I can't wait.

Greece and Brazil have played again at a friendly match at 1974 (at the legendary age of Domazos and the others). The game was played at Maracana and the result was 0-0.

I really dont like Gouma on defence and Laki in midfield. Do we have a time frame of how long for Karagouni, Kapsi, and when Zagoraki can't play. I heard something about Kapsi needing 10 days.

And i dont like Tsiarta playing. His best qualities are free kicks and corners and wasn't doing either last game when w got subed in early. I think Otto should have called Ziko for the roster in midfield for the injured Karagouni. And when will Georgiadi be healthy again, Not because he is a GABRO but I really like his style of play. He would have filled in better than Laki....

Mexican striker Blanco didn't make the trip for tired reasons and 5-6 Mexican players are questionable because of the Copa Liber thing. Should become an easier game to win.
